The Shaq curse:: Stock market investors should be pulling for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association finals due to the Shaq curse, according to a published report Thursday.

Yet another reason to root for the Pistons.

"There are also curses on teams that pay to name an arena or stadium." Perhaps because it's a giant waste of money and any company that does it deserves to take a flogging in the market? I was rooting for the Pistons anyway, but now here's more support for them. Go Detroit!

A quick glance at the piston's roster:

  • Rip Hamilton: single-handedly beat Duke in the 1999 NCAA championship.
  • Corliss Williamson: beat Duke in NCAA championships in 1994, though not quite as single-handedly as Hamilton did.
  • Rasheed Wallace: did some nasty things to Duke during his career at the Wrong School.
  • Tayshaun Prince: OK, did go 0-2 against Duke. Still, went to Kentucky.
A quick glance at LA's roster:
  • Shaq: schooled by Laettner in their only college battle.
  • Luke Walton: lost to Duke in 2001 title game, mostly ineffective.
  • Kareem Rush: lost to Duke earlier in 2001 NCAA tournament.
Clearly, I must root for LA.

Clearly, I must root for LA. For the same reasons you listed tieguy, I clearly must root for Detroit.

For the same reasons you listed tieguy, I clearly must root for Detroit. Ditto; although I'll also root against LA because I can't stand those front row Hollywood bandwagoners.

I was gonna root for the Pistons anyway, being a homer and all, but those Duke references make me want to root for them all the more...

Yes. Go Duke Killers! (says the guy that wears Duke shorts and hat despite his distaste for the basketball team)
