New front page categories are there any plans to add any? Cycling would be nice, and there is at least one request for Rugby.

Cricket? Over the years, we've had some of those. You never know, but if you create it, he will come...

Any other suggestions? We'll add a batch of them, but it should be for sports that have proven interest here with past links.

Mixed Martial Arts could have its own section, as opposed to being included with Boxing.

Of course we could forget about naming individual sports and have general categories, for example: - Bats and Balls - Fighting Sports - Hoops - Pointy Ended Football - Rounded Football - Track and Field - Four Wheels - Two Wheels and so on...

I think there should be a "Wide World of Sports" category ... where those things that you just don't see every day could be posted. That way the fans of cliff diving or jai alai can enrich us with news from the fringe of popular sport.

If you're going to create a category for a sport, I think that you need to be able to make the case based on the number of FPPs, and perhaps to a lesser extent, the number of people who are interested in it.

Well how can you count the number of posts about rugby when they have to be categorised as "other"!? Seriously, cricket and rugby are such major international sports that it's ridiculous not to have them as categories.

salmacis, you look at the fpp. Like, the content. I don't think the issue is how major a sport is, internationally or not...I think what matters is whether it's major on Spofi. BTW, I say this as someone whose major interest is in sports that are minor at best on Spofi.

Okay, lbb, I tried that. I can only see the last months worth of "Other" posts and looking at the archives for a specific month doesn't include the Category of the post so I'll have to do a more time intensive study later. On to preliminary results, for the five posts put in the Other category for the last month, 3 are cycling related, 1 is Rugby related, and 1 is about ESPN's search for some city to name as Titletown.

lbb, I don't follow or agree with your reasoning at all. Either this place is open for all sports fans to join us, or not. We're not some clique.

I don't see the harm in making more categories. Unless there is some coding hassle it does little more than make it slightly harder to scroll through the FPP topic list when posting a link.
