Hawkguy's heroes are back again to fail miserably again this year.

Fraze, you really think the Chiefs can score 17? I don't think the defense can pull that off, and the offense sure as hell ain't going to do it.

Didn't we go through this at the last second last year? I guess I'll never learn.

I love SpoFi. Where else can you coordinate a sports story with Kurt Vonnegut?
posted by hawkguy at 09:44 AM on August 27
Yeah, he bears a striking resemblence to Rick Majerus.

I could almost see your point till the last comment, Drood. That said, regardless of the country of origin, there will always be homerism in sports. It defines the nature of sports. If you want to brag on your team, by all means you have the right to post something. I agree with Sttel Town. If a post pisses you off, skip it.

Wow...Just, wow. I have no way to describe the idiocy of this.

I think your Royals example may be a touch off base. Soria has a 1.62 ERA, 44 k's aganst 17 walks, and has converted 23 saves in 25 opportunities. I think he deserves it, and I think quite a few Royals fans who are only casual baseball fans overall would watch.

If they're not named the Oklahoma Surreys... They should move them to the new Sprint Center, ya know, cause everything's up to date in Kansas City.

I know we've had this discussion before, but either jg or lbb convinced me that Caddyshack is more a movie about a country club rather than a movie about sports. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my all-time favorites. Also, I vote for The Natural and Remember the Titans.

Sure, there are several die-hard Cub, Yankee, Red Sox, Cardinal, Dodger and other old school franchise fans, but most of today's modern American sport fans just can't live with the plodding pace of MLB, replay or no. I can't possibly explain to you how vehemently I disagree with this statement. My team is terrible, (Royals) but I still watch them every night. (Woot! Five game winning streak!) I also know a large number of people in this area are the same way. Sure some of them only watch during the summer because it's the only sport in season that remotely interests them, but most are avid fans.

Grum got it right. I broke my right ankle on the opening kickoff of a football game in high school. It was during the playoffs. I knew something was wrong, but finished the game. When I took off my cleats (high tops) after the game, I really knew. Ankle swelled up like a balloon. Ouch.

Thanks Spofi for educating me on a new sport. Much like you have done for Soccer, MMA, and open wheeled racing. Rcade and gary, I owe you a lot. Fun time watching this game.

I watched it live. For a race that happens so fact, it was amazing to me how he completely outclassed the rest of the field. Amazing stuff.

I have to admit, I follow women's softball more than the average bear because I used to coach. But this is a great story for a couple of reasons. First, the VT softball team chose to play as a tribute on the anniversary of those who died in the tragedy of last year, as opposed to the rest of the school completely closing down. Second, Tincher, the starting pitcher was one of the last players cut in the tryouts last year, so this was important to her.

I'm not saying it was his lawyer alone, but you think it didn't start somewhere? I don't know how reliable the Daily News is, but I was a former sports writer, so I understand how much pressure a paper can put on a writer to create something and write it as such that no legal issues can come of it.
posted by hawkguy at 06:39 PM on April 28
Joey, if you think those "unnamed sources" have nothing to do with the plaintiff's lawyers, I would beg to differ. And yes, I read the link.
posted by hawkguy at 06:09 PM on April 28
My smart ass response to this is because this is all conjecture brought on in part by a lawyer trying to defame a man who brought a defamation suit against his client. There has been no proof offered, and until there is, I will show no respect to this "story." Sorry if I offended anyone.

McCready is also someone who was jailed a few years back for drug-related reasons. She's a loon. I remember that story, being a Country fan, and she went completely bonkers. I think she's the singer that was married to Superman from Lois and Clark at some point.

Hey, Tinman and all KC area Spofites, I don't want to thread-jack, so send me an email and maybe we can meet up for a gathering. It would be fun to place a face to screen names. Maybe a Royals game, although they are getting shellacked right now.

Why is that hawkguy? I have always been a KU fan and Kansas resident. It hurts me a little to even be in Missouri. Besides, you gotta admit, the area from Troost to the stadiums is kind of scary.

Where do ya suppose a southern Califonia kid goes for sushi in Kansas City? There's a pretty decent place in the strip mall behind the Wendy's right by Johnson County Community College. And I'm sure there's some good places on the Plaza. On the Missouri side, I would have no idea. I try not to go there. On topic, I'm just glad the Chiefs stayed away from him. Our defensive backfield is terrible, but he definitely would have not fit in KC.

tahoe, I was having that same conversation in my head. I'm just glad I stayed away from the keyboard. Damn but that's funny.

THX, I made the same mistake. When I read "number one pick" my brain automatically translated to "first round pick" because the Chiefs are traditionally terrible at the draft and it has become a very sore spot for me. I apologize if I annoyed anyone.

In the year Elway, as well as several others qb's that made it big, (I think Jim Everett was one) the Chiefs drafted Todd Blackledge number one and he didn't make the list. I have to call shenanigans. They also picked Percy Snow who promptly got in a moped wreck and broke his leg, while drunk. Neither lasted two seasons. I still can't watch a game where Blackledge is a commentator.

If you could see me, you definitely would not confuse me for a bird. Well, maybe a slightly overweight, clumsy bird who tends to like beer a little too much. But I also don't stand on a street corner selling cheaply-made knock-off products to people. So I'm not that kind of hawkguy either. It's all a ruse.

sorry I know people dont want to hear "my life story" SO this will be my last post..... Why is it that people never actually mean this when they say it? Kind of like the people that get pissed off at a retail location and say they are never shopping there again. They always come back, usually with the same attitude.

I would never imagine that combination of crap would be so good, but combined it just comes together. This topic seems to belong in this thread as much as other topics being discussed.
