I was born in Toronto, raised in Ohio, and attend college in Hillsdale (where I still am). Thus, I play hockey, I love hockey, and I wanted to be in the NHL my whole life. At least until Gary Bettmann shat all over the league with the glo-puck. Also, because of my childhood in Ohio, I have experience with baseball, basketball, soccer, football in the yard, roller hockey, tennis, golf (which I just suck at), downhill skiing, shootin' guns (tho I've never shot an animal), fishing, hiking, bicycling, and skateboarding (but just for a few weeks). Since college I have picked up racquetball and some martial arts, and I've revived my love of basketball just shooting around with friends at home and at school. I also helped re-start the long dead hockey club at Hillsdale College, which has been great fun - we finally won a game.

Being one of the original members of SpoFi, and one of its most inactive, I would just like to say that you should all join me for a drink if'n you happen to be in town.

Watching the Leafs lose to Gretzky (the Kings came along ot watch the game, as I recall) in '93 was .... difficult.

Weird Technical Issue: Something is wrong with my ISP. When I try to connect via my ATT Yahoo DSL, I get an error message. This is unique to at least this computer, perhaps it's my ISP I don't know. But I can access Spofi fine through a proxy, or through a computer on a different ISP - as long as I don't use Firefox. Firefox on Windows plus proxy works. Firefox on Windows w/o proxy does not, same results were found w/ Firefox on a Mac at work, with a different ISP (Cincinnati Bell). WTF? Error message inside.

Ben Roethlisberger blogs the Super Bowl!: Blogging quarterbacks is definitely a movement I support. Yeah. Blog previously mentioned here, but this is some fresh content, and deserves a mention.

Carson Palmer blogs his recovery: "In terms of my injury, I will be completely ready for the 2006 NFL season and am anxious to get back out on the field with my teammates." He also talks about some details of the recovery process, urges the front office to resign John Kitna, and and avoids mention of how the injury happened. Though this blog is probably vetted by PR people, Palmer doesn't sound bitter, he sounds like a class act.

NBA brawl in the stands repeated: Or something else? New York Knick Antonio Davis ran into the stands during a game in Chicago, claiming his wife's safety was being threatened. Larry Brown supported him, immediately drawing a distinction between what happened last night and what happened that fateful day last year at the Palace, saying "That thing that happened in the stands had nothing to do with the two teams. That's a man concerned about his family." Regardless, this incident underscores the weak, often ineffective security at sports venues around the country.

LeBron James: Honor Jordan By Giving Up No. 23

LeBron James: Honor Jordan By Giving Up No. 23

What an empty, headline-grabbing gesture this is.

Who cares? Everyone that's followed the NBA understands the importance of number 23, and if you wear that number, you bring judgment on yourself, lol. People will hold you to a higher standard, or assume you don't deserve to use it. Let teams retire it if they wish. I mean, in the NHL if you want to wear 99 or 66 or 4 or 9 or any particularly iconic number, you can, and nobody really bats an eye anymore. This is because hockey fans will never agree on who the greatest of all time is.

In summary: this is stupid, Lebrawn. Use your time better.

And the Bengals ran over the Bears. I have to say that surprised me a little.

rcade: yes that's basically right, estamos would be translated to 'is' in English in this case, but it has to be plural like that to match Honduras, the people, in the way the translator was referring, I think. My spanish is more than a bit rusty though. I gather el mundial is just short for el copa mundial, so yeah.

Oh what a great yt link, goddam. I love the part where he's saying 'bailando en las calles!' or something. They're dancing in the streets over that game. Honduras estamos en el mundial!

Brought a smile to my face, such genuine enthusiasm.

rcade: is Wyshynski the guy that posted all those really shitty 'sports comedy' flash videos back in the day? Because the guy that did that didn't appreciate me calling on it and definitely got a hold of my email and cellphone number and posted them on craigslist, 'giving away' my stuff. LOL.

If it's the same guy, I'm not going to read Puck Daddy anymore.

Detroit does indeed have an NFL franchise.

Hope springs eternal in the Motor City. Detroit, for all its woes, has compiled an impressive series of powerhouse basketball and hockey teams that have won a lot of rings in the last two decades. Even the Tigers have been in the playoffs (I don't follow baseball, at all).

Oh, and the Redskins need to change their name and logo already, U of Miami (Ohio) did it, changed it to Redhawks and nobody is complaining. So for them to lose to a team that was 0-19 coming in is just karma.

Puckathon Draft Day Complete! Fun Time Pontifications Here

I forgot to do pre-rankings and I overslept, but ye gods is the auto-ranking terrible. After further review I didn't make out too bad, but I was trying to pick young athletic players on up and coming teams who are on second lines, for example, like Antoine Vermette who I just picked up. He'll notch 20 goals and 50 assists with Nash on the first line for the Jackets, Vermette will generally not have to match up against an opponent's top defenders, and he is a gifted young playmaker.

I wanted guys less prone to injury and who had productive seasons last year, or good prospects, basically players with a decent production, good plus minus and low PIM if possible. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Oh well, it's a long season, anything can happen.

I have to automatically side with Stephon, as I have to give him credit for the Starbury shoe, and the fact that Isiah Thomas is quite obviously a massive douche.
