C.C. Sabathia looks around Cleveland's clubhouse and sees something missing "There aren't very many African-American players, and it's not just in here, it's everywhere. It's not just a problem -- it's a crisis."

Wow, talk about a boring read. I swear we need some inside info on some of you people. Baseball hasnt been hot for a while. Hip hop dominates not just black culture but American culture. Hiphop= football and basketball. Thats why blacks play those sports more. More contact, more skill, more speed. Full scholly's help but only an idiot still thinks that coaches dont work out financial aid packages for every kid he wants. You guys are so funny. Let me break it down.....Baseball is not what's hot in the streets, period.

Diversifying a Colorless Game Jeff DiNunzio writing in Sportscentral has penned an outstanding piece. "Hockey is dichotomous: while experiencing a period of great popularity in the number of new players registering with USA Hockey, its official governing body,(in the United States) the sport continues to suffer waning popularity on a large scale, especially in predominantly non-white regions." Referencing Scott Burnsides piece for ESPN this is a comprehensive and compelling read.

Y'all are funny. Being black I like to think that black kids are smart enough to know that if you are going to be playing a full contact sport you wear a helmet that fits, a face mask, and a mouthpiece to go along with the pads...especially when what you are playing on is hard as a brick. Yes economics has something to do with it, but do you see football players missing their teeth?

Equal pay for equal play: the All England Club announced plans to offer equal prize money across the board for men and women at this year's Wimbledon tournament. Of the four Grand Slams, the Australian Open and US Open also offer equal prize money; the French Open offered equal prizes to the men's and women's champions in 2006, but does not offer equal prize money throughout the tournament.

I hate this. What a slap in the face to the men. Make the women play best of 5 and its all good. But this is just a complete load of crap. How about a new slogan, equal work for equal pay.

Tim Hardaway, the yin to Jon Amaechi's yang: "First of all I wouldn't want him on my team," said Hardaway. "Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I don't think that's right and I don't think he should be in the locker room when we're in the locker room."

Eh, I like free speech. We should let people express themselves so we truly know them. I am not homophobic, because I dont fear gays. Do I respect their lifestyle, no. Do I have any friends that are gay, no. However I am not into persecuting, which can only be done through actions not words by the way, so in the regard I dont bother them. You are never going to be able to tell a whole segment of the population that they have to accept something that they deem incredibly immoral. I assure I dont think that I am morally sound all the time but I tend to not fight nature. If being gay werent a decision thing, like being a thief or crack head, I think there wouldnt still be all this fuss. But all of this revolves around a choice. We dont have to respect, like, or embrace your own personal choice. And you cant even compare people not liking gays to people not liking blacks. A) you are born black you dont choose it. B) gays werent enslaved then actively discriminated against. I'd say they havent been through anything of note, as a group, that makes their cause so special.

Abandoning Your Post. Would abolishing the 3 point line improve FG%? Spacing? Kevin Arnovitz has some interesting analysis of SI's article about the issue.

posted by lilnemo at 03:13 PM on February 14

Obviously someone doesnt know that its easier to have a layup blocked than a dunk. Thats why people do it, not just for flash. If anything the NBA should make the courts bigger and move the 3 point line out. If coaches cant keep their poor shooters from forcing 3s then thats their problem not ours.

Former NBA center John Amaechi announces that he is gay. Henry Abbott over at TrueHoop is anticipating the league's reaction.

posted by lilnemo at 02:46 PM on February 08

yawn, Amaechi was garbage. I'm glad he found a way to make some money off of being gay. kudos for that. Just because one doesnt care for someone of a certain mindset doesnt mean they hate nor fear them. If its not ok for me to say being gay is wrong, then how is it ok to tell me your opinion of my opinion?

Hawaii QB says no to NFL. After statistically producing one of the finest seasons for a QB in NCAA history, Colt Brennan has withdrawn his application for the NFL draft and elected to return to Hawaii for his senior season.

posted by FonGu at 11:27 AM on January 22

How is Tommy Chang panning out? Seriously guys how often do the QBs from the little schools get enough respect to warrant leaving early? Personally a guy would have to be a freak athletically, Big Ben, for me to draft him at a reasonable slot. If piling up monster numbers against pathetic teams was all it took to be a high draft pick then Texas Tech would be sending guys in the first round every year. Not a Colt fan.

Youngest Player in 49 Years Makes PGA Cut Four days after his 16th birthday, Tadd Fujikawa became the youngest person to make a PGA cut in a half century, finishing two rounds of the Sony Open at 3-under, one ahead of previous winner Vijay Singh. "I'm probably not going to win this tournament," said Fujikawa, who finished third in last year's Hawaii high school state golf championship.

I doubt he gets much media attention. He isnt a 6 ft chick. He is a 5 ft guy that is smaller with more game, big deal. He is supposed to have more game right? He was playing on the tour he was supposed to be, he's a guy.

Beckham makes it official. He'll move from Real Madrid to the LA Galaxy this summer. What impact will this have on MLS and the state of the game in America? Can Becks conquer even a disinterested America?

posted by trox at 10:15 AM on January 12

Here we go again. I'm not even going to diss soccer, its a very difficult sport to play. However I must say that I dont think Beckham can inspire kids like you guys think he can. I think most of America wont even look at him as one of their own. He doesnt even sound like an American anymore with that prissy accent and that isnt going to sit well in the south to say the least. I wish him luck as he isnt taking any food out of my mouth. And if I were a defender I would break him the first chance I got just for being so crazy paid. Anyway I think an atmosphere of excitement starts from the lower levels and works its way up. If you cant get people to watch highschool soccer or college soccer then it has no future. Needless to say the big 3 dont have that problem.

A Man’s Place at a Woman’s Practice Faces Limits The idea is that the men are bigger, stronger and faster than the women and can provide more rigorous opposition. But if the N.C.A.A.’s committee on women’s athletics has its way, the use of men in practices will soon end.

Women are catching up to men in air rifles. WTF??? Last time I checked you dont have to be an athelete to shoot a gun or throw a dart. As for basketball, of course you get better when you practice against players that are worse matchups for yourself, so when you get to a good matchup then you can dominate. No different than a frosh and a senior. The frosh should have a bad match up against a senior, but when he plays another frosh he should do even better than he did before. I say let the women stop playing with the men. I am tired of hearing how good they are. If college teams need to take reguar students off the yard to practice then obviously there are some serious gaps in talent.

A.I on his way out. Allen Iverson is no longer Philadelphia's headache. Then again, maybe it's the other way around. Either way, this much is sure: One of the great players in franchise history has likely played his last game for the 76ers. Iverson wants out and Philadelphia will grant his wish.

If I could lead the league in scoring and still be past my prime obviously I wasnt the problem. How many 40 pt 10 asst games has AI had this season already, ummm like 4. STFU.

US all stars sweep Japan. Ryan Howard was named the MVP of the US/Japan Series also. Here is the link with the complete coverage from MLB.com. This is the first time a sweep by the US has happened since 1935.

posted by jojomfd1 at 08:25 AM on November 08

What was your point MJ? Didnt the article just say the MLB swept the Japan All stars. So should we discount the most recent wins for the latter? In that case Spain still isnt that good at basketball, they only won the last competition. Argentina is the man, but wait we clocked Argentina this year, so we're still the man. Yay!

Lots of Attention. Little Success. Michelle Wie. Danica Patrick. Lots of ink. No wins.

posted by BlueCarp at 12:49 PM on August 11

Dont get mad at men for not paying women sports any attention. If I am not mistaken women make up slightly more than half of the population, the onus should be on them to support their sisters. We shouldnt be guilted into watching an effort inferior to what our brothers are capable of accomplishing. And dont compare Dan Marino to these broads, he has won plenty of games. Neither of them has won a race/tournament. That argument was pathetic.

Faith Day After the Braves game Thursday, you can attend a Christian music concert and hear John Smoltz talking about his life-changing conversion to the Christian faith. And Atlanta is not the only team: the Arizona Diamondbacks are having their own Faith Day later this season, and the Marlins will have one next season.
