The Green Bay Packers hire Mike McCarthy to lead the team It's not a "hell yeah!" type of hire, but did any of the candidates in this year's pool of coaching talent have much of a "wow" factor? If nothing else, Packers fans can be pleased that Wade Phillips was not handed the keys to the franchise.

Editing Posts How do I edit--or, if need be--delete--a post I make? Or is that strictly the territory of the moderators? thanks

Charles Martin, best known for his body slam of Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon in 1986, has passed away. He is the second former Green Bay defensive lineman to die in the last 31 days (Reggie White being the other, of course). R.I.P. Charlie.

Local Columnist Runs Down Emmitt Emmitt Smith's retirement press conference included a weird attack on the media, and it appears the animosity was mutual. Remembering Smith calling himself a diamond surrounded by trash after his final year in Dallas, sports columnist Gil LeBreton of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram waved 22 goodbye: "Maybe there were some Super Bowl media members in the packed conference room who, too, had to swallow back a tear. I wasn't one of them."

Sure, but I still think the histrionics are a little silly. OK, OK--now that I've had my little fun, I must confess, the fire and brimstone stuff was mostly an attempt at dry humor. I may be too new to this forum to be utilizing it, though, so perhaps all the stuff about Satan's white-hot furnaces and what not came off as a little goofy. However...I do remain unwavering and very sincere in my belief that Woods is a piece of garbage. I don't think those are too harsh of words at all for yet another coddled athlete who thinks sociopathic behavior is acceptable. Bottom line: he should be escorted to the city limits and kicked out of town by sundown (OK, it's already after sundown now on the West Coast but that's beside the point). He sucks, we all know it, end of story--case closed. *BANGS GAVEL*
Harrington era may be over in Detroit. (A/S/L check req.) Millen continues his man-crush on Joey, while Mooch and his staff want to go another way. Is 3 years a long enough time to call a QB a bust?

The Chronicles of Ricky, part 10. In which Ricky Williams is found in the California Sierra foothills studying to be a holistic healer. The program is supposed to take a year and a half, but my money says he drops out before Christmas.

He's had a great career, but I get the feeling--like Bruce Smith--he hung around a couple years longer than necessary for the sole purpose of padding his stats. I mean, he's been hanging on in the NFL the last couple years to do what? Play with the Cardinals?? Give me a break...
