Ricky Williams wants back in... but is there a spot for him? Running back Ricky Williams, exiled for the entire 2006 season because of a fourth violation of the NFL substance abuse policy, has triggered the process that could end his one-year suspension and lead to his reinstatement by the league.

Adolf Hitler, Cowboys Fan Translated from the original German, this YouTube video poignantly captures how every NFL fan feels when your 13-3 team goes one-and-done in the playoffs after your quarterback spends his off week in Cabo with Jessica Simpson. Funny everywhere but Dallas.

More Trouble For Vick Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick tested positive for marijuana in a urine sample submitted September 13th, just over two weeks after his guilty plea regarding federal charges stemming from a dogfighting operation in Virginia that Vick bankrolled and took part in. As a result of the positive test, Vick has been restricted to his residence every day from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m; his restriction will include electronic monitoring which Vick must pay for. Judge Henry Hudson also ordered Vick to continue in a substance therapy program and participate in mental health counseling.

I remember hearing him say " I found God" when he had the press conference at the time he pleaded guilty. I guess God told him to fire one up and relax.
Mussina or Kennedy? Ian Kennedy AAA call-up and former USC trojan is set to replace 247 game winner Mike Mussina in the Yankees rotation

Moose has been killing me on my fantasy team all season. I've been a fan of his since the baltimore days and can't bring myself to let him go. I guess thats why I suck at it. Everytime I see what looks like a sure fire win,(i've given up on expecting k's), he'll toss me up a nifty little 10.5 ERA and a loss.
He's back. Some are calling him "The Natural." Some are calling him the next Ruth. While the doubters were eating crow, all eyes were on Rick Ankiel's glorious return last night, and he did not disappoint.

Sports Illustrated has been doing an Ankiel Watch for the last year or two. It's been fun to watch. It takes a hell of an athlete to do what he's done. Good for him.
Howard fastest in history to 100 homers It soared over the roughly 35-foot-high batter's eye in center field, bouncing into the Wall of Fame area on Ashburn Alley, a distance estimated to be 505 feet by the Phillies. That was Ryan Howard's 100th career home run, coming in his 325th game, breaking Ralph Kiner's 59-year-old record (385th game).

Does he know that Gary runs this site? And40 years ago, he'd still be 48. My money's on Gary.
Record 7 40-year-old pitchers to start on Wednesday. Is it because of modern medicine, better physical training, expansion (requiring more pitchers and diluting line-ups), better pitching mechanics, clear or cream, just plain coincidence, or .......

I don't remember anyone even counting the number of pitches a pitcher had to make until the 60's
That's because they stayed jacked up on monkey testosterone back then.

John Smoltz makes history Tonight, Smoltz got career win #200, becoming the first pitcher ever to add that figure to 150 career saves. Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley, to whom Smoltz is frequently compared, was just three wins shy of the same distinction when he retired. Smoltz also broke knuckleballer Charlie Hough's record for most saves by a pitcher with 200 or more wins.
Is this enough to get Smoltz into the Hall?

What am I missing here? Neither is ringing a bell.
The real Nuke LaLoosh. He remembers what it felt like to be in control. It was a long time ago. But that kind of euphoria never dies. "It's like trying to describe an ice cream sundae," Jason Neighborgall says, "to someone who has never tasted one before."

:07 Seconds or Less Jack McCallum is a long time basketball journalist for Sports Illustrated. He was granted all-access by D’Antoni and took great advantage of it. He shares all the stories that happened in the locker room, some too profane to repeat. But the most insighting thing, was how some of the star players were portrayed.

I have a son in the 8th grade and I think he would be insulted with the comparison.

The New Color Line in American Baseball is Green As Jackie Robinson festivities highlight the declining number of black Americans playing pro ball, San Francisco Chronicle columnist C.W. Nevius offers a different reason for the shift: To develop skills and get noticed by scouts, young baseball prospects in the U.S. today must participate in expensive traveling teams and "showcase" tournaments like Perfect Game in Iowa, which prices the game out of the reach of many families. "At one point, we charted the first five rounds of the draft over the last eight or nine years and highlighted every black kid," said Perfect Game organizer Jerry Ford. "We found that with the exception of two or three players, every one of them had attended a Perfect Game event.'

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I don't think the playing field is all that unlevel. I've always thought that baseball was the 1 sport that if you had talent, they would find you. We had a high school kid that threw in the 90's last year and there were scouts lined up at every start he made. He never played anything other than high school and legion ball.
I know there are a lot of advantages for the kids that can afford the special camps and lessons offered today, but don't think it goes that far as to helping kids turn into MLB talent. It may help a kid be better than average as far as little league and high school goes, but being a really good high school player is a far stretch from professional ability. To me, that skill level is something you have or you don't...not something you can buy at a camp.
As I mentioned in another post on the same subject, I've seen my son's friends dropping baseball like crazy between tee ball and now going into Babe Ruth this year. We had to drop another team because of lack of players and let a neighboring county bring their only team to play in our league. Most kids, all races, are losing interest in baseball long before money becomes much of a factor.
Billy Donovan staying at the University of Florida; Brewer, Noah, Horford, and Green are not. Despite all the speculation, Billy Donovan, architect of the Gators' back-to-back National Championship teams, rejects Kentucky without even speaking to the university officially. He'll have to mold next year's team without juniors Corey Brewer, Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Taurean Green, who are all giving up their final year of college eligibility to head to the NBA.

I'm glad Donovan stayed, only because I saw so many Kentucky folks saying things like "Enjoy your title Florida, we will have your coach soon MUAAHAHAHAHA".
Yea that was me. If you were offended Venice, please except my apoligies. I think TBH makes some of the coolest comments and posts here. It was only meant as a little good natured smack talk towards him.
TBH, if you need an apology too, you got it, but you seemed cool enough to me to get what I was doing. Here's exactly what I was trying to draw out of you:

I really wanted Pitino or Donovan, but I didn't really think either would come. Of all the other candidates they had mentioned, I was really hoping for Gilispie, so I'm satisfied. I was impressed with his press conference this afternoon. A reporter mentioned that he wasn't UK's first choice, and he looked at th A.D. and said, I wasn't? Glad to see he has a since of humor. He's going to need it here.
I have no doubt that this will be the only time you ever hear me say...I feel Hitler's pain.
