Moose has been killing me on my fantasy team all season. I've been a fan of his since the baltimore days and can't bring myself to let him go. I guess thats why I suck at it. Everytime I see what looks like a sure fire win,(i've given up on expecting k's), he'll toss me up a nifty little 10.5 ERA and a loss.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I don't think the playing field is all that unlevel. I've always thought that baseball was the 1 sport that if you had talent, they would find you. We had a high school kid that threw in the 90's last year and there were scouts lined up at every start he made. He never played anything other than high school and legion ball. I know there are a lot of advantages for the kids that can afford the special camps and lessons offered today, but don't think it goes that far as to helping kids turn into MLB talent. It may help a kid be better than average as far as little league and high school goes, but being a really good high school player is a far stretch from professional ability. To me, that skill level is something you have or you don't...not something you can buy at a camp. As I mentioned in another post on the same subject, I've seen my son's friends dropping baseball like crazy between tee ball and now going into Babe Ruth this year. We had to drop another team because of lack of players and let a neighboring county bring their only team to play in our league. Most kids, all races, are losing interest in baseball long before money becomes much of a factor.

I really wanted Pitino or Donovan, but I didn't really think either would come. Of all the other candidates they had mentioned, I was really hoping for Gilispie, so I'm satisfied. I was impressed with his press conference this afternoon. A reporter mentioned that he wasn't UK's first choice, and he looked at th A.D. and said, I wasn't? Glad to see he has a since of humor. He's going to need it here.

TBH, if you need an apology too, you got it, but you seemed cool enough to me to get what I was doing. Adolph Rupp had 4 championships before Wooden ever started. I think you could say he laid a little foundation as to how college basketball would be played. Sure Wooden added to the game. So did Smith, Knight, coach K, even Pitino. Give any of those coaches Kareem and Walton back to back and see how many titles they would have. I think Wooden was ONE of the best coaches ever, but to say he is the end all of college basketball is absurd. College basketball is much bigger than any one coach. The game has and will continue to evlove.

i have to disagree with louisville_slugger. pride definitely does NOT have more talent. just look at wanderlei silva. he got his ass beat down in UFC and recently has been dominating in PRIDE. although it will be pretty sweet to see ufc vs. pride 1 That's cool, It's what I like about the future fights. We'll see. Wanderlei has been in Pride for a long time and I think through training, fighters evolve and can't be compared to what they were 6-7 yrs ago. Look at Anderson Silva, he routinely got the shit kicked out of him in PRIDE, now he's the crowned prince in UFC. Henderson lost in UFC, now he holds 2 belts in PRIDE. You could go back and forth with examples here all day. The only downside I see is to my wallet...every PPV is gonna be a can't miss.

Cool story Folkways. I have an eigth grader that just finished his little league carreer and I can tell you, baseball is a dying sport among ALL youth today, whites included. We live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. Kids that were playing with him in tee-ball have been dropping baseball every year for summer basketball and soccer leagues. In our last 2 yrs of little league, there were no black kids left playing and even a larger number of white kids that had quit. Two teams had to be dropped from the league. My son will be starting on the Freshman baseball team this year. I'd love to tell you that it's because he is an elite baseball all-star...but I can't. He'll contribute and be a solid player. But the reason he's playing high school ball while in middle school is because we have only 3 true freshman on the team. This is out of a class of probably well over 100. Kids that were all-stars in little league and babe ruth have passed over baseball for track and tennis. Nothing against track or tennis....but this is BASEBALL for christ's sake! Our kids are not growing up with the passion that we had for baseball, and for me...that just really sucks.

It was not my intention to play "word lawyer". I'm not a wrestling expert. You said it was not hand to hand combat by any reasonable definition. Although I actually agreed with what you were saying, (believe it or not), I wondered how it would be defined. While it was a little ironic to see the hand to hand,I think the second part of that sentence totally supports what you were saying. with the style, rules, and regulations differing widely in amateur and professional matches. Compare catch-as-catch-can (def. 3), Greco-Roman (def. 3). I think that totally supports your statement...It's a sporting contest, and therefore, there are reasonable expectations of limits....which I happen to agree with. Lbb, please don't take offense...while I did find it a bit ironic, I posted defending your position...I can see how it could be seen as something different, and maybe I should have stated my position in the same post. Yay Yo, Im glad you liked the post, but I don't come here to get in any pissing contests.

Secondly, I'm not sure that the argument that these guys are rewarded with a free college education carries as much weight when the coach makes $850,000 a year guaranteed (according to an article from CU's athletic homepage ) which is probably far more than anyone at the University does. I'm sure the coach went to college, so why does his salary have anything to do with it? I'm not denying that there are a lot of issues out there when it comes to college athlectics and how the big money is allocated, but I'm not gonna throw that on this guys shoulders when all he is trying to do is turn a football team around. It sounds like they need all the practice and conditioning they can get. With the salary you mentioned, he could lie on a beach in the bahammas that extra week. Instead, he's committed his time as well as the team's time to build what he hopes will be a winning team.

The Chargers don't have TO, this might be very inviting for Parcells, a proven winner. Maybe in a year or so, but not next year. Any team the lured him back would have to compensate the cowboys since technically he's still under Dallas' extention. No way Jerry Jones would let that happen.

I'd agree with Cuban that a role player who probably has no endorsements might pick up some if he came out while he was active. However, I'd be curious to see how it might impact a superstar like Lebron who has the huge indorsements already out there. In today's society, I think it's a stretch to say he would benefit financially if he came out today.

Besides being a 3 time national coach of the year, below are a few more of his failures listed by wikipedia: Since arriving in Lexington in 1997, Smith has led Kentucky to one National Championship in 1998, a perfect 16-0 regular season conference record in 2003, five SEC regular season championships (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005) and five SEC Tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004), with six Sweet Sixteen finishes and three Elite Eight finishes (1999, 2003, 2005) in his nine seasons. He totaled 100 wins quicker than any other Wildcat coach except Hall of Famer Adolph Rupp, reaching the plateau in 130 games.

However, I think Rampage and Cro Cop are going to shake things up like never before in the UFC. Cro Cop could easily make weight for a 205 lb fight, and Rampage could easily bulk up for a heavyweight fight. Throw Randy back in the mix at either weight class, and this is going to be 1 hell of a year.

Philly should not go nuts here. What Reid should learn from the Garcia games is that Westbrook needs to run the ball. Throwing the ball 60 times per game with Mcnabb is not going to take you far. Westbrook could be 1 of the best backs in the league if he ran more when Mcnabb was qb. The pieces are there if they were balanced out.
