"We're in heaven, we've got Kevin": Kevin Keegan makes a dream return to manage Newcastle United.

This is mental. I can only imagine that it's been offered as a sop to the Newcastle fans who have become disillusioned over recent years with the direction and play of the team. Convinced I'd fallen into a different universe while sleeping I rushed off to nfl.com to make sure the Dolphins hadn't hired Don Shula.

No, Mr. B, they hired Tony Soprano.

I don't understand why Newcastle management or fans expect Keegan to do any better than Big Sam in the remainder of this season, this isn't comparable to Little Sammy at Bolton, he was out of his depth, or the Benitez/Hicks soap opera at my Reds.

It'll end in tears.

The problems at Newcastle are not of any manager's making. It is clearly a dysfunctional organisation from the top down. From what I hear and read, the owners use the club as a revenue generator and have no real interest in the team, the fans or even the town (I cite Freddie Shepherd's comments in a tabloid a few years back). Keegan's Geordie loyalty obviously outweighs his common sense, and you have to admire him for that. But in the same way that I admire Wile E. Coyote, with I suspect the same eventual outcome.

But at least they're better than Derby, eh?

Owl, I thought that Mike Ashley just bought the club, and pushed Shepherd out, in the last year or so, so how can anyone already say things like "the owners use the club as a revenue generator and have no real interest in the team, the fans or even the town" already?

Ashley did only just buy the club and that's really the reason that Fat Sam has gone. Ashley admitted locally that Sam wasn't "his man" and that he should have pushed him out as soon as he came into the club, rather than waiting.
