Clemens signing with the Yankees becomes an ongoing joke. I'd like to ask why, but I guess I know the answer. This isn't a Yankee joke, it's a clemens' joke. He could have signed with the red sox and the same joke applies (how well is another story). The only jab at the yankees is steinbrenner and he's been a target for ages (seinfeld). Clemens signing ANY year by another team would be smart baseball. Actually, its the complete opposite. Clemens signing with ANY other team (other than Boston) would be dumb baseball. 18 million for a 44 year old easily injured pitcher who can only go 6 innings? It can be called a smart move by the Yankees because money is not a problem and they want to win this year. But that money for a 3 or 4 is crazy for anyone else but the Yankees or Boston, and he was never going to sign for anything less. Clemens this year, and probably in 2057, would still be better than the majority of major league pitchers. He's 1 and 2 with a 4.86 ERA, averaging less than 6 innings a game and hasn't even faced an american league team yet. I'm guessing 2057 isn't looking so good.
I guess the team you follow must have one great staff to make Clemens the 3 or 4 starter. And as for "easily injured?" I guess I don't see it. Since 2000, Clemens has thrown over 200 innings every year but one (and last year's half season). He's averaged nearly 200 K's per year throughout that time, and his ERA the past three seasons has been 2.98, 1.87 and 2.30. I really don't see that many teams right now with what I'd call dominant 1 and 2 starters. Pitching in baseball as a whole is mediocre. As for Clemens, I stick by my comments. As for 2057, I think you know I was kinda exaggerating.

Heresy, I know, but...also, he's had a bit of a pick-and-choose schedule the past few years, so shouldn't some of those recent numbers have an asterisk next to them?

And as for "easily injured?" I guess I don't see it. Maybe easily injured isn't the right words. But he's 44/45, so I don't think it's much of a stretch. He's had problems in the post season several times with leg issues, and I'm sure playing part time is to help him stay healthy. Hell, New York was concerned with him running the bases yesterday. I really don't see that many teams right now with what I'd call dominant 1 and 2 starters. You're right, but so far Clemens isn't one either. You're pointing to past seasons. Sure, he could come on strong. But at this moment he's not a 1/2. Honestly, I really haven't heard anyone, Yankees or otherwise, claim clemens is anything more. They needed a 4. I'm thinking anything else would be a surprise. Add the baggage clemens brings and I don't see how he's a fit for too many other teams.
