Gooden: "I'd rather get shot than come back here": Will prison finally be the thing that enables Dwight Gooden to kick his drug habit? Or will this sad tale of a spectacular career gone wrong and, more importantly, his life, keep spiraling downward?

I feel bad for any addict suffering.We all know somebody who suffer's.......Can't take away how great he was, even if it was for a short time.

It's sad to say, but from reading his words in that article, it doesn't sound like there's much hope. He has no confidence in himself, as if the prison stint has to convince him to stay clean.... no, he needs to convince himself. With that mindset, he will fail. From the comments about how he'd rather be shot than return..... I think we all know there is going to be a problem if/when he fails to stay sober again. It's sad to see our "heroes" suffer like this. Someone who can be so strong on a baseball field, who can be so weak in their personal life. I just hope he can get the help he truly needs in his rehab. At least he is getting rehab while he's in there, not just prison time.

Rehab has never been proven to work over the long haul, especially for mental midgets like Dwight Gooden. Personal resolve and discipline has been proven to work for centuries and will continue to do so. I feel no pity for people who constantly make bad decisions and place themselves in harms way. Once, OK. Twice, you're stupid. 11 times? I'm done with you...

Aaaaaaand in about three years, he will have been proven to have not gotten the message. Again. I liked Gooden as a pitcher, but my empathy only extends so far. Lumbergh - about $10, according to eBay.
