Do Not Taunt the Tiger Stephen Ames, the leader going into today's final round at The Player's Championship, is bouncing back from one of the greatest smackdowns in the history of golf. A month ago, he went into a match play competition against Tiger Woods with a good-natured comment about the way his opponent had been playing: "Anything can happen ... especially where he's hitting the ball." Woods heard about the remark, then beat Ames by nine strokes after 10 holes, the most lopsided victory possible.

...he said with a wry smile, "No comment." Priceless!

too bad it wasn't fuzzy zoeller...with a big bucket of KFC

To quote Tiger, "Coming in second Sucks"

anything can happen at this course te tpc so it is best not to comment till after its over

yeah the tpc can change fortunes really quickly...like the 17th

Good for Ames.

9 & 8 THIS! way to go stephen! ya did canada, and trinidad AND tobago proud!

Ames played a fantastic final round on a tough course. He looked more at-ease than I do when I'm playing a meaningless 18 holes. His entire tournament was impressive, and now he gets to try his hand at Augusta in April. Forget the 9 and 8 stuff. Tiger can do that to anyone on any given day.

Ames may skip the Masters, according to sports columnist Gene Frenette here in Jacksonville:

"I have no plans of playing at Augusta," Ames said in his first response to several Masters-related questions. "My priorities have always been my family first." When asked if he'd go to Augusta if his wife and kids encouraged him, Ames inadvertently stepped in a mini-minefield by saying: "No, I'd rather go on vacation to be truthful." Suddenly, the man who had just put on one of the finest displays of shot-making and mental toughness on the final day of The Players found himself having to defend his family values. Not a pleasant thought when you consider his wife, Jodi, was diagnosed with lung cancer last May, had successful surgery, and is now in remission.

No worries, he's going.

is ames nuts?...skip the masters? go on vacation? don't golfers have an off-season?like football, baseball or basketball?that's when you take your holidays..dude you smokin some funny stuff with mike weir? you don't snub the masters, you go there an get er done...

Just a little thought, I would like to see Ames play good and not talk about everyone else out there like he is the one with a record like Tiger's. 2 wins in a career does not give anyone the right to have a cocky attitude when talking about the worlds best players. His win last week just goes to show that anyone can buck up and win a tournament, does anyone remember David Gossett at the John Deere Classic.
