Jags Punter does a bad Gimli impersonation: Chris Hanson, Pro Bowl punter for Jacksonville, cleaved his leg this afternoon while using an axe in the team's locker room. The axe was there, along with a tree stump, as a motivational tool for the team, with the slogan "keep chopping wood". Things just keep getting better and better for my teams this year...

Hanson also was a victim of an accident prior to last season, where a full, scalding hot fondue pot crashed to the floor at a party, burning him and his wife. Talk about your bad luck guys... At least my Marlins are doing well (except for last night, of course.

I can't believe our punter tried to chop his own leg off in the locker room! I get the feeling that being a Jaguars fan is like adopting the Boston Red Sox in 1919. Dope springs eternal. Time for another round of our team song, Uh Oh.

I'm convinced a little more each day that Jack Del Rio is an idiot. How many coaches would put an axe in their locker room for motivational purposes? This is karma for treating Brunell like a doormat.

In later news, Jack Del Rio had a pit filled with metal spikes installed in the locker room to use as a motivational tool with the slogan, "Stay Sharp!"

Del Rio USC Linebacker, 'nuff said.

Brilliant, pitchblende. Absolutely brilliant.

As a Jaguars fan who misses Tom "Going to Snap at Any Moment and Kill Me a Fucking Reporter" Coughlin, I thought Jack Del Rio's use of the log was an inspired touch. How was he supposed to know that his punter was going to try to escape the futility of this season by chopping off his own leg? As for Brunell, I don't think he's mistreated Brunell. At a time when the team is desperate to fill seats -- all home games have been blacked out this season -- going 0-for-September proved that this is another hopeless year. Byron Leftwich gets fans excited and is playing at least as well as Brunell has, if not better. How could he not keep him in?

Perhaps we can send Hanson a copy of this.

As for Brunell, I don't think he's mistreated Brunell. I think he has mistreated him, in the way the whole QB question was handled. A QB of Brunell's caliber, with all he has done for the Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville, having to go through the pre-season unsure of where he stood with the franchise as it moved forward was wrong. Del Rio and crew could have been, and should have been, more forthright with their decision making. That, and the tree stump, have been the major negatives against Del Rio's first season of the "New Era". Hopefully, though, he can take something from the experience, and will continue to improve as a head coach. Things are looking up for the future of the franchise, but we should not be so quick to relinquish the past.

I think the Parcells approach is the best one. No one on the Cowboys knew where they stood when he took over -- they all had to prove themselves.

Hanson is out for the year.

Has the story of how he got gashed actually come out? I mean, video of that would be pretty funny in a tragic sort of way.
