Virginia Tech beats Team USA.: Behind a no-hitter by the starting pitcher, Virginia Tech defeats a team that has arrguably the best hitting core in the history of organized softball.

I have to admit, I follow women's softball more than the average bear because I used to coach. But this is a great story for a couple of reasons. First, the VT softball team chose to play as a tribute on the anniversary of those who died in the tragedy of last year, as opposed to the rest of the school completely closing down. Second, Tincher, the starting pitcher was one of the last players cut in the tryouts last year, so this was important to her.

Oh, sorry I couldn't find a better link than this. The game just ended. I will post some more meaty links when I get to work tomorrow.

I was watching the game too, and the announcers had mentioned how the US team usually doesn't scrimmage against college clubs because the distance from the mound was different. Sounded like it could have had an affect on the US batters. Either way, a great victory for VT. Something those girls will never forget.

Both the Olympics Rules and the NCAA rules(PDF) have the distance set at 43ft. But either way, an incredible win. VT pitcher Angela Tincher's stats are ridiculous: 0.49ERA, 282K's in 138.1 IP. More than 2 K's per inning. Then a no, no to the US team. She should get a ticket to Beijing as well.
