MLS gives you wings!: Red Bull, the drink maker, is about to purchase the MetroStars for $30M from the Anschutz Entertainment Group. Houston, on the other hand, has found a new (though still less than stellar) name: the Dynamo (yes, singular).

You mean like Moscow Dynamo? The pride of Communist hockey/soccer/etc for decades? Sponsored by the KGB? Dynamo? Really? Cool.

East of the Oder, we will refer to you as Dinamo Houston, you capitalist running dogs.

crackin me up, u 2. So what is worse, being a ego centric, racist, southerner (1836) or a pinko commie pig? Actually, I liked both names. The irony is that while 1836 reminded some US citizens (and a few illegal aliens) of "racial tension", the very name Houston refers to the guy that actually fought the Mexicans. That is still in the name. Life is hard.

I have an OT question -- in Canada, the Red Bull commericals now end with this really fast disclaimer about how Red Bull doesn't "actually give you wings" and the ability to fly. So ... did someone interpret the campaign literally, slam a couple Bulls, jump off a rooftop and rearrange himself violently on the ground far below?

Sadly, wfrazerjr, there are people in this world stupid enough to believe such a thing. A few years back, following the release of a football movie called "The Program" where some cement heads layed down on the roadway to show courage or stupidity or their IQ, I'm not sure which. But some kids in this crazy U.S.A. can't tell "movie reality" from "life reality" so they tried the same exact thing because "nobody in the movie died doing it" and a couple of these youngster were killed. So, just goes to show ya! Folks are idiots sometimes!

damn, they changed the name of the team too. looks like no more "red and black". i still wish they would use new jersey instead of new york. especially with the move to harrison.

Yikes. That new logo is awfully cartoonish. I'm kind of scratching the head on which name is worse: Red Bull New York or Houston Dynamo.

i still wish they would use new jersey instead of new york. especially with the move to harrison. Yeah, them and those other two football teams that play home games in New Jersey. This has been pushing my button since Giants Stadium opened in the '70s; even the freaking Cosmos used New York. There was an attempt a few years ago in the NJ legislature to make teams use, or at least include, New Jersey as their geographic reference but--big surprise for my lovely home state--they got bought off.
