Annoyed by the MSN-affiliated, animation-laden, Zubaz-inspired ESPN.com? There's a lite version.

In a battle of image, Duke takes black eye So Duke wakes up Monday with a fresh black eye and a fourth loss to Carolina in the past five meetings. For the image-obsessed Blue Devils, it gets no worse than being bad and being dirty.

Krzyzewski showed once again how classless he is, which should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. Billy Packer, somehow, was even worse. "Without question, Gerald Henderson was going for the ball." Really, Billy? Without question?

Bo Schembechler Dies on Eve of Michigan/Ohio State Game Former University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler collapsed during a TV show taping and has died, according to a Detroit TV station. In some extremely mistimed bad taste, an Ohio State-supporting band called the Dead Schembechlers have been getting lots of press this week.

Not only would the game be on a neutral field, but also it would probably be on a field where the grass has actually taken root. I suspect that we would have seen a drastically different game if all the DBs weren't slipping and tripping throughout the game. And would Urban Meyer shut up already?

Pittsburgh's Road to the Super Bowl Few teams have taken a longer route to the Super Bowl than the Bus-driven Pittsburgh Steelers, whose 34-17 victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship makes them the first team since the 1985 New England Patriots to win three road games to reach the bowl.

Kudos to the Steelers. Anyone hear chatter on an early Super Bowl line?

Majority of soldiers fighting in the war in Iraq non-white. I'm pretty sure that this is incorrect. Every link I can find is two or three years old, but they all peg whites at over 60%.

Badgers give Alvarez a goodbye kiss. And as the sports announcers were spewing 'Auburn this, Auburn that, Auburn the other thing,,,' Wisconsin went in and kicked their bum but good.

Oh, come on emoeby! I'm a Michigan fan but when bowl season comes around, I realize that it's my job to pull for every Big Ten team. I know that being a UMN fan must take a huge psychic toll on you, with them sucking year in and year out, and playing their home games indoors on plastic grass, but you gotta share the joy when the Badgers and Buckeyes both beat their opponents so convincingly. Also, Sun Belt officials have no business officiating real football, and Brady Quinn is as overrated as any college player since Ron Powlus.

Oakland, the best in the west? After a mere 14 games since the All Star break, the A's have the best record in the majors. Barry Zito translates that into "the A's will win the AL west". I don't think so...

Another rivalry Saturday is ... Another rivalry Saturday is in the books. How did your alma mater do? My two schools, the University of Washington and the University of Oregon both won their respective clashes against hated rivals. Shout outs to the Michigan Wolverines, USC Trojans, Cal Golden Bears, Auburn Tigers and Clemson as well. Time for you to brag on your school, yo! And just what is the BEST NCAA rivalry in football? My vote goes to Army-Navy...

The Football Gods reward a Football Nomad. Yup, Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback -- once of Slate, then of ESPN.com, and late of FootballOutsiders.com -- is on the move yet again. This time he lands, appropriately enough, at NFL.com.

Pitching wins aren't a good indicator. Just ask Nolan Ryan.
A nice little breakdown about one of those wacky events in baseball: arguably the best pitcher of the season (statistically) ends up with a losing record. Sorry, a terrible losing record. Just how bad were those 1987 Astros? A nice little article from Aaron Gleeman. And dig that funky uniform!

Gleeman and the entire Baseballprimer crowd really hate Joe Morgan.

A LiveJournal user delivers ... A LiveJournal user delivers pizza to Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor and says he's such a lousy tipper that "I hope he breaks his hip and has to retire." My brother-in-law was Nate Newton's neighbor and revealed he never said hello on the street, making his subsequent legal troubles more fun for us. What trivial real-life encounters with athletes have colored your impressions of them forever?

Dick Paris: "While I might look to Yale-Harvard or Cincinnati-Miami (of Ohio)" Only those in Cincinnati look to Oxford for a rivalry. We at Miami have since moved on to bigger and better things. And snobbishness is, of course, the raison d'etre of we Redskin, err, RedHawks...
