Sports Bio

The most memorable game I attended was the first St. Louis Cardinals game I went to.
The year was 1985 and the Cards were tearing up the NL.
Joaquin Andujar was one of the best pitchers that year and he started the game.
The Cards were playing the Phillies (who were celler dwellers at the time) and there were at least 3 rain delays.
The highlight had to have been Darrell Porter stealing 2nd when the batter missed the hit and run sign, the catcher was so shocked that Porter was running that he didn't even throw the ball.
The Cards gave up 6 in the 8th to lose the game 6-0 but it was my first MLB game so I wasn't too upset.

The team that I follow VERY passionately is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
My blood pressure must skyrocket when I watch them in a close game.
I have been a Steelers fan for more than 30 years and a St. Louis Cardinals (baseball) fan for 25 years. I have been a Jeff Gordon fan since I started watching NASCAR in early 1995.

On a more personal note: I have been married 3 times and currently am in a very serious relationship. I have 2 sons from the 1st marriage and 1 son from the 2nd.

I work as a Point To Point machine operator/programer and lead-man in a store fixture manufacturing company.

How to Tell When a College Basketball Game is Out of Reach Take the number of points one team is ahead. Subtract three. Add a half-point if the team that is ahead has the ball, and subtract a half-point if the other team has the ball. (Numbers less than zero become zero.) Square that. If the result is greater than the number of seconds left in the game, the lead is safe.

Or you could just use the handy Bill James Lead Calculator.

Hal, to be fair the article is about college, not pro basketball.

Patriots are perfect 16-0 with a comeback win against the New York Giants, overcoming a 12 point third-quarter deficit. Tom Brady's 50 touchdown passes in a season breaks Peyton Manning's record; Randy Moss' 23 touchdown catches in a season breaks Jerry Rice's record.

NBA Doesn't Monkey Around with Racial Heckler An Orlando Magic season ticket holder has been banned from all NBA arenas for allegedly calling Dikembe Mutombo a "monkey" after Thursday's preseason game against the Houston Rockets. Hooman Hamzehloui, an Orlando real estate sales director, claims he didn't know that calling a black man a primate was racist. Hamzehloui, who hosted a Magic party the night before attended by several players, is still having trouble figuring this out. He told an Orlando Sentinel columnist, "If I said he looked like a chimpanzee or like a gorilla, none of this happens."

Eckstein gets the MVP because he had the clutch hits in games 4 and 5 simple as that. :o)

Didn't say he wasn't a hard worker (as is probably most of the players on his team), didn't say he had a bad ws, said he was average, and average he is. From ESPN: Eckstein became the fourth shortstop to win a World Series MVP, joining Bucky Dent of the Yankees (1978), Alan Trammell of the Tigers (1984) and Derek Jeter of the Yankees (2000). Despite opening 0-for-10 in the series, Eckstein finished 8-for-12 and wound up hitting .364 (8-for-22), with three doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored. He was the offensive catalyst of the last two games. In the Cards' 5-4 win in Game 4, Eckstein had all three of his doubles and drove in the winning run with two outs in the eighth inning when his drive to left-center ticked off the glove of a lunging Craig Monroe. In the Game 5 closer, Eckstein drove in the first run with an infield single, the third run with a grounder to short, and scored the final run after another infield single. Sounds a little better than average to me justgary, but maybe I'm wrong :o)

Rust belt blues Cardinal rookie pitcher Anthony Reyes comes up big, Tiger starter Justin Verlander comes up small, and Tiger hitting pretty much takes the night off as St. Louis takes game one of the 2006 World Series 7-2.

I for one am glad the Cardinals don't have the so called "home field advantage". The only way the Tigers get more games at home is if the series goes 7 games. Everyone who picked Detroit in 4 might want to make an adjustment after last noght :o)

So much for Pujol's run at the HR and RBI records St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, the major league leader in HRs (25) and RBIs (65), injured his right oblique muscle in Saturday's game and might miss up to six weeks. He was on pace for 74 HRs and 192 RBIs, both of which would've been new MLB records.

What is one of the main signs of steroid use? Injuries, which Pujols seems to get from time to time. Not big injuries but muscle type injuries, because the steroids push the muscles too fast and cause them to strain or pull. That has pretty much been Pujols' injury M.O. for the past few years. When he goes down it's a strain or pull, for the most part. This is the first time Pujols has been on the disabled list in his 5 1/2-year Major League career. Do you know of some kind of link from steroids to plantar fasciitis?

U.S. thrown a curve; Cuba cries foul Seems like silly posturing on both sides. If this was a condition of Cuba being allowed to/agreeing to play, they can hardly complain about it after the fact. However, the US should have realized this was a possibilty, and would only make them look bad after the fact.

posted by hoverbike at 09:48 PM on March 25

Cuba agreed to forfeit it's share of the winnings in order to play, so Castro is the one who looks like an ass because he wants to donate money that he knows he isn't getting. I guess the U.S. should have just said "Cuba has donated nothing to the Katrina victims, thank you Fidel!" :o)

Let's see....If you get caught cheating, your a cheater. If you don't get caught cheating, your a cheater that was good at not getting caught? What a load of crap! Some "fans" think if their driver doesn't win often but someone else does then the someone else MUST be cheating. As for the post, someone asks big brother a question about little brother kyle and somehow it gets twisted into Gordon cheated when Ray was his crewcheif, get over it! Gordon dominated for years because he was one of the best drivers, had one of the best crewcheifs, and was with one of the best teams in NASCAR.

I don't agree with players that throw tantrums because they don't think they get the ball enough, but I am so sick of people who run to the press about everything (not just sports related either) these days. I for one hope they find out the squealer and if they can't release him because of the union, then bench his ass for the year! :o)
