Sports Bio

Yadda, yadda - the handle stands for "Your Humble and Beloved Commissioner", because that's how I've always signed the reports in my fantasy football league (the Gnational Football League - the "G" is silent). 2002 will be the 12th consecutive season of the GFL.

In person, hmm - I'll have to think about it. If "attended" extends to T.V., I will never forget watching the Immaculate Reception, with my dad, on a little black-and-white television in a cabin in Colorado. Good time.

I cried when O.U. lost to Miami in the 1988 Orange Bowl. I cried again when damn Jimmy Johnson's hair didn't even get wet.

First Heisman Trophy Winner passes away.: There is no ObitFilter, but I thought this should be mentioned here at least. The two things I really appreciate about Mr. Berwanger's story are that he never played pro football, and his aunt used the trophy for years as a doorstop. Very cool.

Of course NBA Finals ratings are down...without U2

Speaking here as an unabashed Pats fan (from even before they won) I don't see the U2 halftime adding a whit to the sales of the DVD (or the video), although a few more folks may have tuned in at halftime of the actual game than otherwise would have (and just maybe, some of them stuck around for the second half, because they were so stunned to learn that the Patsies were winning at the time). It's far more likely that the "plucky underdog" thing, and, unfortunately, the "this year, we are all Patriots" thing, is what has made that Super Bowl such a big repeat seller. I can't imagine any U2 (or any musical group) fans actually buying the replay of a sports event, even a good one, even a championship, to see the band.

The United States will win the World Cup...

Sure, it'll happen someday. Just as another example, until a cocky American won the Tour de France - three times - no one in the rest of the world that an American would ever win it even once. No, it wasn't Lance Armstrong, either. Nice website you all got here, by the way - nice to be here.
