Power Rankings So what do you think? Being a Stiller fan I would have to agree...

I just don't care that much about power rankings. Just win, baby!

Cowher bothered by Bettis comments Steelers coach Bill Cowher says former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis needs to cool it with the "Cowher's retiring" talk.

posted by SummersEve at 06:17 AM on August 15

The Steelers and Cowher have been good for each other. There is no better ownership in the NFL and Cowher is in the top 3 or 4 current coaches. I think we have had 2 coaches in forty years and have 5 rings to show for it. But as a life long Steeler fan, I sense Cowher walking away soon. I count it as a blessing that he coached the Steelers for the time that he did. I hope that LeBeau stays on as DC for a few more years. Love 'em or hate 'em you have to admire the Steeler organization.

Are you ready for some football? DJ Gallo: On Thursday, the NFL released its schedule for the 2006 season. And although it's pointless to try to analyze it and weigh strength of schedules and such when the draft is still to be held and September is still five months away, pointlessness never stopped me from writing before. Take a look at some of the key games from each week of the 2006 NFL schedule.

I don't think that the 'Hawks will dominate anyone. They came close, but now I see them back to 8-8, 9-7. The Steelers played a poor game and beat them. I think the Steelers need a center in this draft -- someone to groom for a year. No predictions for this fan -- yet

All the skills and no future Sean Taylor may have sealed the fate of his career with these two new charges against him. It is a shame because he is a great defensive player.

Why do some NFL owners put up with thugs? They put winning above all else. Now I'm a big Steelers fan and my views might be skewed a bit. But I know that the Steelers would never have drafted Taylor. Same as they would never take T.O. They want good players and good citizens. But the Dan Snyders of the world don't care about that. That's the sad truth. If all teams held players to high standards it would be a different league and still a good league. Sean Taylor is the next Lawerence Phillips.

The Ten Most Hated Athletes This should bring up some serious discussion........

I'll think about my list, but I know that the jerk-off, crybaby, Bill Romanowski will be up there. If Denver is such a class organization, why did they keep him so long? Trust me on this -- he would have been sent packing if he played on the Steelers. It is amazing what owners will put up with in hopes of a championship

Pittsburgh's Road to the Super Bowl Few teams have taken a longer route to the Super Bowl than the Bus-driven Pittsburgh Steelers, whose 34-17 victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship makes them the first team since the 1985 New England Patriots to win three road games to reach the bowl.

A few thoughts... I am glad there is a two week wait until the Super Bowl. The Steelers have played three tough road games and could use a little rest. I don't think that Plummer collapsed -- the Steeler D is playing so well right now that even golden boy Peyton was thoroughly confused. The Steelers have had two, count 'em two, coaches since 1969 and are making their sixth Super Bowl appearance. Big Ben can be the youngest player to WIN a Super Bowl.

That was not even close! The Steelers dominated the whole game. But I must say that the Broncos players and coaches were good sports after the game. One more victory and the Steelers are champs!

Broncos Drop Patriots In a game turned by five New England interceptions and fumbles (including one caused by the hard hit delivered by a kicker nicknamed "Boom," the Denver Broncos defeated the Patriots 27-13 in the second round of the AFC playoffs, handing Tom Brady his first-ever playoff loss and giving Bill Belicheck his first taste of a season-ending defeat in 4,025 days (a Cleveland Brown Ravens loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-9 in 1995).

But let's see what the Broncs can do against the Steelers. It will be a battle. Defensive guru, Dick LeBeau, will have a few surprises waiting for Jake.

Official was wrong The NFL actually admits a mistake by a referee. In a game marred by many bad calls against both sides this was the most flagrant. You know it had to be bad for the NFL to admit it publically.

posted by scottypup at 04:45 PM on January 17

I gotta wonder what city that ref lives in. Surely the league would not allow an Indy official to work the game. And I think that Porter had a good point -- most of America wanted to see golden boy win one and most did not want Dungy to go through more pain (me included) But that game was very poorly called. And Indycoltsj -- we are not boo-hooing. We want the games called well. Maybe with enough coverage the league will start full-time refs. If we only cared about one game we would have shut up already. But I don't want to see ANY team bounced out of the playoffs due to a bad call (even the Colts!)

'They want it to be a thinking game instead of a football game' The Steelers' Joey Porter has a real problem with combining football and thinking. He probably doesn't appreciate all those thinkin' types like coaches and coordinators hanging around on the sidelines.

I'll bet he's a formidable chess opponent.

posted by cybermac at 01:49 PM on January 16

Looks like Porter sucked you guys in just like he did the Indy players. I'll bet he's smiling now. All he wanted to do was to get Indy to try to stand up to the Steelers. And they (and you) fell for it.

Win and Indy loss makes Broncos the new Super Bowl favorites "The Broncos have been flying under the radar the whole season, with the likes of the Colts out there, but now, they're looking better," said Jay Kornegay, who runs the sports book at the Las Vegas Hilton. It's been said that Mike Shanahan has kept it quiet in the Mile High City, but the silence has been broken and much of the focus is being placed upon the team that has subplanted the Patriots. Home field advantage doesn't seem to account for much against the Pittsburgh Steelers; as a sixth seed going into the playoffs they have proven that they can play on anybody's field. At least the Broncos are getting some much deserved respect.

Under the radar? Pittsburgh wasn't even flying. No one liked them -- well none of the experts. I think it will be a great game!

Coach of The Year Lovie Smith was hired to resurrect a proud franchise in Chicago. He did such a strong job in 2005 that he was chosen The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year on Saturday.

An offensive genius and a defensive genius on the same staff, with a head coach smart enough, tough enough, secure enough and personable enough to control the fusion, and talented, unselfish players who bought into the system 100%. And a major melt down last night!

They should wait until the WHOLE season is over. How about Big Bill in Pittsburgh? Smith NEVER won a game that his team trailed by 10 at the half. Never!

This was not an official blowing a call. This was the replay guy not knowing the rules. That, or he lives in Indy.

I'm glad to see that the Steelers are dogs again this week. Seems that role works well for us.
