Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi sets a new world hamburger-eating record

"69 Krystals in eight minutes is astounding. Kobayashi is, without a doubt, the greatest eater ever to live upon planet earth," said David Baer of the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, the 102-pound phenom from Alexandria, VA, took second place and $5,000 by eating 46 Krystal hamburgers and rounding out third for $2,500 was Richard "The Locust" LeFevre of Henderson, NV, with 41 Krystal hamburgers.

Am I the only one still fascinated by Tyson? I hereby suggest that he gets his own reality TV show. Soon. Everything this guys does gets in the news -

We should all just let Tyson go. Yes, he did have a horrible childhood and everything he does is put under a microscope. That still doesn't excuse the things he does. Weedy is right, he does seem a beaten man. While I do empathize with him, I do NOT feel sorry for him.

Would you rather run laps or ... ? Nottingham Forest manager Gary Megson came up with a novel way of punishing his under-performing soccer players over the weekend when he made them face disgruntled fans in the changing rooms.

or my Browns, for that matter) I was at the last game. The line would extend from the browns locker room to the R&R Hall of Fame entrance. Way too many things wrong. ugly, ugly, ugly game.

The Astros Win the Pennant Houston's going to the World Series for the first time, thanks to a great performance by Roy Oswalt and an error-prone opponent. (Three wild pitches?)

Not only have the Indians not won a World Series, no Cleveland team has won a major sports championship since 1964. That's why I get so tired of hearing about the Cubs & White Sox (Chi had the Bears & Bulls), and the Red Sox before last year (Patriots & Celtics). I was born in '69, so I haven't had a chance to celebrate anything yet. (God, please let the Cavs do something).

I know it may not mean much to everyone else, but he will be sorely missed in Cleveland.

Garland's complete-game four-hitter lifts White Sox. Looks like the fight has gone out of L.A.

Home Runs and Steroids: This guy's no Amateur Art De Vany puts my recent column on the topic to shame and makes an even stronger conclusion: "Forty years of home run hitting in nearly 12,000 major league hitter years of chances have produced no change in annual home run production. The statistical law of home runs that held forty years ago still holds today. It follows that steroid use either is not wide-spread among MLB players or it is ineffective in increasing home run power." (via Transition Game)

Disclaimer: lots and lots of stats. You've been warned!

too..many...numbers. should have heeded warning. I think the series NUMB3RS should find a way too take this on.

Former NFL Star Received Steroids from BALCO One of the dirtiest players in NFL history, four-time Super Bowl linebacker Bill Romanowski, will tell 60 Minutes this weekend that he used steroids received from Victor Conte. Here's a line from his upcoming memoir, which can be filed with Jose Canseco's book in either the sports or pharmacology section of Barnes & Noble: "My rage was the orgasm of my fear."

The only thing he will get is another couple of minutes of fame and a spot on VH1's Surreal Life. Poor guy, I hate the way athletes are mistreated. It's not his fault he had to take illegal drugs.

Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go, do not receive an Olympic medal. IOC president Jacques Rogge is trying to get Italy to suspend its anti-doping laws for the duration of the Torino Olympics. Unlike IOC regs, which call for disqualifications and suspensions from sports, the Italian laws apparently include possible jail time for violators.

Maybe they could come to an agreement to only prosecute those athletes that IOC tests positive. That way there wouldn't be a witch hunt to stack the odds against one certain athlete or one country's athletes.

Playoffs don't need Berman's embellishments Couldn't agree more. Berman is good on Sportscenter, but not in the booth.

I saw berman on SC today, and it's the same as it always is, it's about the "swam". His ego is bigger than he is and he seems to think it's bigger than whatever play he's talking about at the time. I like SC, but it seems to be full of guys like that.

Old Man on Campus Jim Harper, the fourth-string tight end for the Millsaps College Division III football team, is a 48-year-old who had eligibility left after a 27-year absence from the school. His effort to finish what he started has inspired me to return to Yale Elementary in Richardson, Texas, to earn my Webelos badge.

Taking one for the team? "It was never mine or the team's intention to humiliate or ostracize any member of our team brotherhood," said a McGill University football player who has been suspended indefinitely after a freshman was forced onto his hands and knees with a dog toy in his mouth while being prodded anally with a broom handle. Bonus points: McGill's chancellor's name -- Dick Pound.

I like the way the team is wearing the suspended players number to honor him. He is obviously the victim here.
