Sports Bio

My most memorable sporting events 1.Baseball - My first Major League Baseball game I attended in Oakland, Vida Blue against Jim Palmer. 2. Boxing - Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney

I think I cried for two days when that punk Namath beat my Colts in the Super Bowl.

Timing of Wiretap Backs Gretzky The New Jersey Attorney General's Office and state police said Sunday the agencies would not comment on a pending criminal investigation. Yeah, now that they have released what appears to be false information (the wiretap in the last month was actually just a few days before and after the gambling investigation was revealed) and attempted their typical character assassination in the press, they finally say they are going to shut up.

cybermac, I think you need to reread my post. I did not come close to inferring I had viewed their returns, nor did I say anything about the 2006 superbowl earnings, nor did I mention anything about which years tax return the income should be reported. I thought my post was very general using the words may or if and in no way was it an allegation. You have every right to disagree with my comment and that is what is great about this forum but please critique what I actually wrote. You shot at me was about as accurate as Dick Cheney's shot.

IRS will be the ones who drop the hammer on the Gretzky's. All gambling wins are suppose to be reported as other income on the front of the tax return and an equal amount of losses can be claimed as an itemized deduction. The gross number that should have been reported may be very large. The $500k number being thrown around is only the net. If substantial the IRS has a potential tax fraud/evasion case. Maybe Janet can get Martha's old cell.

The next Derrek Lee? Michael Young? David Wright? Who will be the next baseball player to make the jump to superstar status?

Brian Anderson of the White Sox will be next year's AL Rookie of the year. Has good power so meets the RBI spec but it will take a couple of years before he hits for .300+

Fans win battle with NHL over Stanley Cup. Two fans settled their suit against the NHL out of court, which included such provisions as the Stanley Cup is awarded at the trustees' discretion in the event of another NHL lockout.

Janet Gretzky has it at 6:1 that an AHL will ever be awarded the cup.

A glove affair: New methods shed light on evaluating defense

The multitude of new systems and their unfamiliar numbers can frighten even the statistics-friendly baseball fan. It's sort of like voting for eighth-grade president -- the class might be full of young Lincolns, but it takes time to get to know them. We're talking 'bout the next generation, coming of age and waiting for acceptance. The new fielding systems take some time to get to know, it's true. But baseball is a game without a clock, after all. We've got nothing but time.

This news is 2 1/2 years old. Interesting that these part time stats men steal each others quotes and theories. Argument validity test : 0 Jeter Gold Gloves before the stat men's claim 2 Jeter Gold Gloves (both years) since the argument was proposed.

AT&T: Yet another name for Giants ballpark: Delivered. "The San Francisco Giants said Friday their ballpark will be known as AT&T Park beginning March 1." ZZZZZZZZZZZZ. From PacBell Park to SBC Park to AT&T Park. Did anybody really care about the name? What's the best pro ballpark name that's still being used?

Does anyone know if the water channel in right field (McCovey's Cove?) is considered part of the stadium? If so, do the kayakers need tickets? If its open to the public, I can only imagine watching the hand to hand combat when Baroid launches one to pass Ruth & Aaron. There will be 50,000 UFC type of characters tearing each other to pieces.

Seattle SuperSeahawks Sean Alexander ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns to send the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl as NFC champions over the Carolina Panthers, 34-14.

I hope the Seahawks do a successful trick FG play in the Super Bowl in memory of us fans who suffered (but laughed) through the Jim Zorn, Efren Herrera days. I guess I will finally publicly recognize that Holmgren is a better coach than Jack Patera.

No suds in the Meadowlands . Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo announced that next Monday night's game against the New England Patriots will be alcohol-free, "for the safety of our fans".

No suds in Jersey? Springsteen would roll over in his grave if he found out. Yes, I know.......but his music died long ago.

I'm sorry, did you say contract? What contract? It's a wonderful life, if you can get one. Millions of dollars, expensive sports cars, reservations in the finest restaurants, babes. ...

I would hope these multi year contract holders would have an appreciation for their predecessors, but I haven't heard about a single current player supporting their lawsuit. It is a shame that the great game of baseball cannot take care of their own. They are not asking for much.

Now security is taking fans brown paper bags away from them in Detriot so fans can't protest the games by being unknown fans. I think management of any pro team has to allow their fans to express themselves, even if they don't like what they have to say. Without the fans the team wouldn't exist.

Somebody should make plastic doormats with the Lions Logo in the center with the words "Goodbye Matt" emblazoned under the logo. The fans could tell security they were seat cushions, 50,000 doormat/cushions could be simultaneously hurled at Millen's skybox.

BertBelongs. A site deveoted entirely to the case for Bert Blyleven, Hall of Fame pitcher.

I would have trouble voting for a starter who won 20 games once in his 22 year career. Granted he was on some lame teams. I would vote for Bruce Sutter before Bert. Sutter helped revolutionize the position with Fingers, Eckersley, etc. He was more than a one inning relief man but thoroughly dominated for 10 years. Also pioneered the use of the split fingered fastball which became a significant influence on the game. Bert's curveball revolutionized the development of geometric measurement software used to measure home run distance.
