Russian Star Anna Kournikova Says May Return to Tennis The 24-year-old Russian, who hasn’t played professionally since 2003 because of back problems, said she doesn’t have any plans to return to the WTA Tour any time soon, but added that "the possibility is not completely out of the question."

Oh yeah!! She's already been replaced with a hot blonde anyway!! That's why! She wants to be the hottest blonde in tennis! I can't remember her name but I've seen her in commercials and ads. Ha!

Like she was really a big threat in the first place hahaha. She has a hell of a lot of work to do if she thinks that's a good idea to come back. She's better at standing there and looking pretty than she is at playing tennis. But then again I might be jealous hahahaha. No.

JULIO FRANCO 2 year contract with Mets for 2 million plus The Mets agreed to a $2.2 million, two-year deal with Franco on Friday, luring baseball's oldest player away from NL East rival Atlanta and giving them a, well ... `mature' backup for new first baseman Carlos Delgado. Most free agents in their mid-to-late 30s can't attract a multiyear offer. Franco has one at age 47 — and he wants to keep playing until he's at least 50.

Okay. If you were 47 and you were able to sign a 2 year 2.2 million contract, you would. You know it. He's a contender still. Forget age. It's performance. There are guys out there who are in their mid 20's who will never be the play he is/was. I think it's great. Leave the guy alone.

Board shortage - the sport of surfing is in turmoil after the world's largest producer of the foam blocks used to make surfboards closed down, citing over-regulation. Surfermag reports the story slightly more optimistically, but everyone seems to be throwing the word "apocolypse" around a lot. Surfer Steve will tell you how to make your own surf board - it looks easy enough, up to the point where he tells you to use Clark foam.

Can't we all just get along? I don't remember polluting the ocean with my foam during my surf sessions. But there always has to be someone to blame, right? All I have to say is if the world doesn't come together and make the effort to improve the environment and stop being lazy (take your crap to the recycle centers and stop littering and dumping) then it doesn't matter who anyone attacks....it's all going to sh*t anyway. Our planet isn't in that great of shape and it's getting worse very quickly. Sad. We're trashing our means of life. Sorry, I'll go back to hugging my tree now.

Michael Irvin Arrested How many of you guys were there when he was arrested? You have no idea whether or not he is telling the truth about the pipe or not. Sure he's had problems in the past, but haven't we all (aside from you geeks that have never had a life outside of Tetris)? He says the pipe wasn't his; I've never really liked Irvin, but I believe that people can change. If it's PROVEN that he is still under the influence, I may change my opinion, but until then - GIVE THE GUY A BREAK! Oh yeah - some of you people really need spelling lessons...

All I know is that everytime I said "oh it's my friend's" I was lieing. Oh well. We should all mind our own business anyway. I'm getting really bored talking about people I don't know. But the cheerleaders were fun.

Urbina throwing heaters in the off season? Seems like the guy can still throw the flaming heat...but, I am not so sure that is what the Phillies had in mind....

This story is a little F-ed up. He has an evil eye...look at him...he's just the kinda guy who would think "man I'd love to take a machete and gasoline to that guy!". If he wasn't involved with this thing someone has ito ut for him. Either way....I'd stay far away from this guy and make sure I don't piss him off...Mr. Blonde indeed.

Panthers Cheerleaders Arrested after Sex at Bar. I guess life does resemble art.

I was just hoping the story would be a little juicier. Hahaha. Way to go, girls! Hahahaha! Couldn't wait to get home, eh? A bar bathroom is not a clean place...not even the sink. To each their own.

I really don't get the whole Nascar thing....very boring to me....a bit pointless. But my dad and the rest of my friends and family back in Texas love it. I guess it's the equivelant of my hero, Julie Foudy. Quite the icon of his sport, that Dale. I say it's a great thing. If the loss of someone means that perfect strangers cry and make their own memorials in their home towns in their honor, they deserve at least that. He was a great. Induct away!

CFL player arrested for sexual assault, also HIV positive Trevis Smith, a linebacker for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, has been under investigation for several months after a British Columbia woman accused him. After his arrest, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police revealed his medical condition out of concern for others Smith may have infected.

posted by wfrazerjr at 05:27 PM on October 30

Ummm.....haven't they charged people with attempted murder or manslaughter or something for just having sex with people and not telling them they are HIV positive? I'm not saying lets put sign on all HIV positive people saying they are, but at least tell someone the kind of risk they are taking by being with them.....but take sexual assault and that's cruel. Women flock to professional athletes to give them a one nighter just to say they did. How many has he possibly infected? I think it's just wrong.

No Adidas. Arkansas State's leading returning scorer, Jerry Nichols, is sitting out because he refuses to wear Adidas shoes, which Indians players are obligated to wear because of a school contract. Nichols was wearing Adidas shoes when he suffered a knee injury in 2001 while playing for Walters State Community College.

posted by jasonspaceman at 11:05 AM on October 18

I seriously doubt the Adidas shoes caused the injury. I wore Adidas all through my soccer career (don't know why I would call it a career....but I don't know of another word) and got hurt plenty of times. But my injuries were due to weak ankles, lack of strength training that's essential to injury prevention, mage-bitches who are just mean, and my, at times, kamikaze style of playing. I think if you're going to get hurt, you're going to get hurt no matter what shoes you wear. My brother tore is ACL when he was freaken barefoot! He needs to grow up and wear the damn shoes....freaken baby. It's a contract so he's screwing himself because he's not going to make a difference. Oh well. Neither is this blog.

R&A votes to allow women at British Open Whats the world coming to when the stiff brits cave in?

posted by tdheiland at 01:59 PM on October 15

Seriously....I'm (obviously) a female....If something is a "men's sports event" then what the heck are you doing trying to get in?!?! I really have a problem with the feminists who try and throw women in everything!!! Have your women's British Open and make up some tournament where women can play against men for a special award?! Seriously. The chick who made such a big deal about getting into West Point went through all that s**t to just to be there, then she freaken quit!!!! What the hell?! If you're going to be a woman, be a real woman and show everyone you can hang! Most women are not as athletic and don't have the same potential as men. Sad to say....but it's the truth. I could go on for days about this stuff! I doubt a woman will win....maybe close....but not for a while. The ladies gotta get used to playing with men and step it up a bit. But, in reality...golf isn't the most physically demanding sport. So if they got the big swing have at it. It's changed. So why am I still typing???

Atlanta Hawks' Jason Collier Dies The 7-foot, 260-pound five-year pro collapsed at 2 a.m. this morning after suffering chest pain and died in the ambulance en route to a hospital. Drafted 15th by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2000, Collier was signed by the Hawks to a 10-day contract in 2004 and played his way into a starting job last season. More details on HawksBlog. While Eddy Curry decides to play through, this off-season has already seen Fred Hoiberg and Ronny Turiaf elect to have heart surgery. I imagine more players are likely to initiate tests despite the costs, (between $300 and $1,000), that prohibit most teams from testing. After losing Reggie Lewis the Celtics now screen all their players annually.

posted by geekyguy at 12:59 PM on October 15

I feel like it wouldn't hurt to have those tests instituted. Some problems and deaths could be avoided. You never know when something like this will happen...to anyone. Doesn't matter how tall you are (of course being that height increases your risk substantially) you just never know. Everyone should make an effort to get regular physicals and health screenings. All that being said, you could still die in your sleep from some freak problem that couldn't have been detected or prevented. If it's in the cards...it's in the cards. A story like this just makes you hurt for the family. **All the best to them getting through this**

Coach resigns after high school bans pregame prayer A spokeswoman for the district, Trish LaDuca, said students have the right to pray on school property during school events, but the prayer must be initiated by the students; otherwise it violates the law. "I'm not out preaching, I'm not a preacher," said Borden, who has led the football program for 23 years. He has a 116-100-1 career record, and his team won the Central Jersey Group IV championship in 2004.
