The mystery is solved. Until now, no one except for a handful of people have really known how many seats there are at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The estimates have gone as high as 500,000, but we now know they were way off. Here is how it was done, plus a section by section breakdown.

IU pays it's AD $800,000 to leave. Michael McNeely ran the IU Athletic program into the ground ($3 Million Deficit) and gets a $800,000 parting gift for doing so. Oh yeah, IU is still paying Bob Knight and Cam Cameron after canning them. Bob Knight is also suing IU for firing him. Good times for IU athletics... At least the basketball team should be good.

The stadium sponsor curse? This would join the previously discussed Chunky Soup Curse and the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx. WorldCom and Enron, US Airways and Air Canada - since the start of 2001 there have been 10 sponsors to declare bankruptcy. Does securing stadium naming rights tempt financial peril?

Oh yeah, the Pacers used to have an assistant coach named Dick Harter (sounds like Harder when pronouced with a "soft" t - the way most would pronouce it, unless you went out of your way to over-pronouce the T). He is the assistant for Detroit now, I think.
