The Million Dollar Kick
As part of a CFL contest, one fan had a chance to make 4 field goals: 20, 30 and 40 yards for smaller prizes, and a 50 yard field goal to win $1,000,000 Cdn. ($854,920.06 US). He misses the first 3 kicks and nails the last one.

It looks like this kid might actually play in the CFL after all

Nothing wrong with a man being honest about where he's coming from. However, there is something wrong about a evangelical organization leveraging an athlete's celebrity to sway impressionable children. This needs to be said over, and over, and over....

8 Ways To Improve The NFL It seems like everybody can suggest 8 ways to improve the NFL, and about 6 of these ways are always the same ideas.

Nobody would watch baseball if, after nine innings, a coin was tossed and the winning team started the inning with a guy on third base...and yet, this is how its done in the NFL. Something needs to change. My preference would simply to have another 15 minute quarter...and keep having them until someone is ahead at the end. I also like Ricardo's idea for a bifurcated pass interference.

I didn't even have to click on the "garishly colored" link in the uniforms section to know that they were talking about the 1980s Astros.

Mean Joe Greene, Meet Mean Daunte Culpepper In Jacksonville, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback spontaneously gave a paralyzed high school athlete two diamond necklaces worth about $75,000 during an NFL awards ceremony Wednesday, then subsequently took them back.

A unique stadium-share Both DC United of MLS and MLB's new boys the Nationals will call RFK home for the next three seasons. Their plan requires three days to change the field from baseball to soccer, then two days in reverse; in other words, no baseball games for six days--and 18 home matches are scheduled, plus a couple more if the defending champs make the playoffs. Additionally, groundskeepers "plan to permanently grow huge, deep trays of grass in another location" to temporarily cover the infield dirt for United matches. Can it work?

It says right in the article that FedEx field is too suburban, and hard for their mainly urban-based fans to access. Hell, it's hard for anyone to access.

Swann tests gubernatorial waters Former Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver, NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl MVP, Lynn Swann is floating the idea of running for governor of Pennsylvania in 2006. Without any political experience will his plans fly, or will they sink?

posted by terrapin at 08:57 PM on December 11

It's sad that we have a political culture that allows someone to offset a complete lack of public service experience with sports acheivement. It's scary that he might actually have a chance at winning. This isn't school board he's running for, it's to head the fifth biggest state of the Union!

This is it This is the game that everyone waits for. This is the ultimate. This is why we watch sports. A game 86 years in the making. They got to seven the hard way. Now let's play the game. The Boston Red Sox play the New York Yankees in a game that will decide the fate of the universe.

"I'm black. They don't build stuff for blacks." Barry Bonds gives his perspective on: Racism in Boston (which he says doesn't come from first hand experience); his continual walks; statues, and other things.

Granted, I only lived in Boston for two years, but I feel comfortable stating that it is the most racist big town I have ever visited. My girlfriend isn't white like me, and together, we've visited cities on both coasts and even in the South, and we both agree that the level of causal racism in Beantown is higher than anywhere else. People would unabashedly stare at the two of us whenever we were out on the town, and while some places, like Cambridge were totally cool, other places, like Arlington made us feel completely unwelcome. Sad to say, even towns like Houston were more progressive.

John Madden explores Monday Night Football Booth Job Sources report FOX has released John from the last year of his contract, Dan Fouts and Dennis miller are history. It's been a long time since I have enjoyed MNF, but if this works out, I'm there.

posted by Mack Twain at 01:30 AM on February 28

Dennis Miller was the only reason I watched MNF games that didn't involve one of the three or so NFL teams I truly care about. His commentary was brilliant and funny, and just because it was over most people's heads doesn't make it any less so. I loved it when I understood an obscure reference, it made the game interesting. Perhaps this is because I know more worthless non-sports trivia than is altogether sane, yet still don't know how many players are allowed on the field at one time. (I just watch for the action). Anyway, I agree with aacheson, Miller got canned for mis-directed intelligence, which is a shame. As for John Madden. Retire. For the love of God get in your bus and head straight for your Florida beach-house (or wherever he lives). Do not pass ABC Sports HQ, do not collect a $15 million, four-year contract. On a final note, I would like to say that the only way for ABC to now redem themselves is to cancel Madden's contract next year, and replace him with Tom Servo and Crow.
