It's OK for the NFL to get you drunk, but not Charles Woodson Just when you thought you could feel no worst about professional sports...

Jeremy Shockey Traded to Saints In the second big swap of the day in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints traded a second-round and fifth-round pick to the New York Giants for tight end Jeremy Shockey.

As much as I HATE to say it I have to agree with MMA. Not because I disagree with what he's saying but because I agree totally! I too am a Life Long Fan of the Giants and when Shockey first hit the scene he brought an intensity rarely seen on the offensive side of the ball. (I'm sure we all remember the 15+ yard run through defenders minus a helmet) But as time went on, as sadly seems to be more the rule than the exception, his head got too big for his production/ or he became more trouble than he was worth. Either way as much as I hated to see him go, I know it's for the best. sniff (I promised myself I wouldn't cry)

Not tonight, honey, I have a game tomorrow. The notion of pre-game abstinence from sex to enhance athletic performance is a longstanding one. But is that notion as fictional as Rocky Balboa? Sean Cupp thinks so. Chris Byrd is the guinea pig. Tom Fornelli resents his high school coach.

Jaeger Bomb -- I threw the 1983 Wimbledon women's final to Martina Now a Dominican nun, former women's tennis star Andrea Jaeger says in an interview she tanked the final against Navratilova after a confrontation with her father the day before. Jaeger, who was 18 at the time, also says she saw Navratilova that same evening and got the cold shoulder. "I couldn't have done that in her position, but all I thought at the time was, 'I've changed her routine and affected her. I can't go out and try in the final now'."

At this point, so far after the fact, to me the real question is "Who Cares?"

OH YEAH IT IS!! The NBA is really getting out of hand pushing it's weight around. The saddest part is there may be no end in sight.

It's a sister slam! Venus and Serena Williams cruised through the Wimbledon women's singles semifinal with straight sets victories over Elena Dementieva and Zheng Jie, to advance to their third straight all-Williams Wimbledon final.

This should be GOOD!! I do agree with the seeding questions though. Serena dominated that first set, but second and third... That game could've gone either way. At least it seems that the sisters battle each other pretty good.

Christian News Site Turns Athlete Homosexual OneNewsNow, an online news service owned by the American Family Association, has been editing AP stories to automatically replace the word "gay" with "homosexual," filing numerous stories about the American sprinter Tyson Homosexual and the NBA player Rudy Homosexual. One story still online: "Memphis Grizzlies backers hit the hay hoping that Kevin Love would open things up for Rudy Homosexual in the frontcourt."

Yeah... Bender I got that... But here's a crazy idea, why not turn off your "auto-replace tool" say long enough to get the names right? Maybe I'm giving them too much credit to think that they would actually edit what they're putting in their material? OneNewsNow, an online news service owned by the American Family Association, has been editing AP stories to automatically replace the word "gay" with "homosexual," filing numerous stories Nope they're editing...

I think the posistion of the AFA is ridiculous, if for no other reason, the complete focus on the WORD Gay... It's not like they are even addressing the "act" of being gay or homosexual or... whatever but rather the word. I do kind of agree with Miles in that it's a little "strong" to call someone as asshole based on their beliefs BUT I would say that these actions do warrant it. I mean let's say I was a racist and I didn't like white people, should I then boycott white milk, or if I don't like blacks? There goes chocolate... well everything! Or how about an extreme feminist? No more Mail for me! I think this is just plain crazy. Ok AFA you don't support homosexuality. DON'T DO IT! JUST SAY NO! But to actually change a mans name because it just happens to be a word you don't like??? Did learn NOTHING from Gaylord "Greg" Focker??? What's in a word people?

Best soccer/football goal celebrations, 1 and 2. YouTube warning There's some very entertaining clips involved. I hope y'all enjoy them.

I was thinking the same thing Steelergirl. I would think that professional athletes would be a little more careful with their "money makers". I mean can you imagine a Nascar driver celebrating by smashing his car into the wall, or Tiger (instead of the fist pump) tossing his putter into the pond or wrapping it around a tree? I mean doing doughnuts (or sliding around topless) is one thing but.... And Grum, that clip is funny!!! I am surprised that there was only one flag thrown though. In addition to self inflicted pain the QB was pushed as well. But then again he was probably heading to the ground anyway!

Barry Bonds offers to play for free.
My opinion on Bonds is no secret, however I noticed this tidbit in the paper yesterday and have been meaning to post about it. Barry Bonds' agent has offered his services to all 30 teams, at a pro-rated salary of the league minimum (at this point, about $200,000 total), even offering to play for free by donating that salary to buying tickets for the game; his trial date isn't until next March, so he would not be prevented from playing.

Despite this, apparently Barry's agent has received no interest, bolstering claims that the league is colluding to prevent him being hired.

Wow Hal, pulling out the race card??? Look, I'll be the first to admit I know very little about this situation, more than, like you said, what I've heard or read. BUT let me ask you this, Is it so hard to belive that, there ARE many people on professional teams locked in by contract that they would LOVE to get rid of? (I'm sure there are) With Bonds, they had the chance to do what apparently they wanted to do and other teams seemed to have picked up on that. Is that so wrong? I mean what does that say?? As many people here have said, there are probably PLENTY of teams that can benefit from his offensive output. The problem seems to be that there is SOMETHING else, whatever it is, that makes it not worth it. No I don't "know" B Bonds... Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think you do either. I don't know if he should play or not. What I do know is there HAS to be some reason NO team in the MLB wants him, and whatever that reason is, I don't think it's right to say someone HAS to hire him.

Collusion... Now there's a nice big word. Is that what we should say when a group of people decide that one person is an idiot and decides not to have anything to do with them? Or that the person is a trouble maker, and should be left alone? As a third grade teacher, if THAT's the case, then I see plenty of "colluding" going on all the time. Hey I don't even like baseball. Barely know a thing about the teams, the stats, the players. BUT I do know that this guys has been talked about WAY too long and NOTHING really positive has been said. He broke a record, Oh right, that he probably cheated to get. He had drugs in his system, Oh right, that he didn't know he was taking. He's an all around ass, Oh right.... That's it I guess, Oh right. I say you just give up Barry. I dont think you can MAKE anyone hire you.... Or can you???

You can't do without Shaq! Noted rapper Shaquille O'Neal, (8 albums, 1 platinum, 5 gold), goes freestyle on Kobe. Despite Shaq claiming that it was done in fun, Deputy O'Neal is being fired coast to coast.

My God ICON please tell me u have recently taken a blow to the head or experimented with a new "completely safe and totally legal, synthetic" narcotic... You're right Freestyle is an art and that crap Shaq did.... THAT was stick figures, done with the left hand of a right handed 5 year old. Normally you are DEFINITELY more on point than not, BUT in this case??? First, anyone who knows rap knows that the "freestyle" is almost always somewhat prepared. Some do it faster than others, but in THIS case you know he's been humming this in his shower somewhere. Second, he sounded just as bad when he rapped with the Fushnickens back in the day. Hey I've heard Barney back in the day lay down better lyrics. Joke or not, that just plain SUCKED!

Crooked ref claims NBA fixes games Tim Donaghy, ex-ref convicted of betting on games, claims referees pressured to call fouls by league and sometimes do so on their own. NBA denies it.

posted by graymatters at 01:08 PM on June 11

There are several reasons... First Basketball=Big Business and Big Money. Just like any business there's no money being made when they're closed so stretching out that "Once a Year MEGA SALE" just makes sense. Second, how easy is it to get away with it? Refs blow the whistle when a player "grazes" an elbow it's a foul. a WEAK foul, but a foul none the less. There's no instant replay (not really anyway), and the action is quick and when most fouls happen it's hard to see. Frustrate a guy with a bunch of bad calls watch his game disintegrate. And lastly WE WANT IT!!! Seriously, when's the last time you really HOPED for a sweep in the finals or World Series or whatever. Oh I know when its OUR team sure, get in and get out, but for the rest of the world let's say just sports fans in general, we want it to last and last, right down to the nail biting hail mary or the half court shot that goes in right at the buzzer. If I'm watching an NBA game and the score is, say, 90 to 30 in the second quarter, I better have a game controller in my hand or I'm turning the channel. We all saw the night and day calling from game 2 to game 3. If there is no "corruption" then let them play and let's see who wins.

David Stern Explains Late NBA Start Times: "That's what you jerks want." It's not advertising dollars, it's the insomniac nature of NBA fans that's driven the NBA to schedule even weekend games to start at 9PM EDT.

I have to say I am leaning toward joining Blarp on this one. I was already to go sign up, and even recruit... Of course THEN I find out about the 48 bucks... It would be different if you KNOW where this money is headed but... If it's going into something like bringing chess to the "hood" then I'm all for it. If it's going to but some new bling for someone like O.D.B... well I'll pass
