Wooo! Great job Wings! Also, HUGE credit to Pittsburgh, the team and the fans. I was incredibly impressed with the crowds at the Igloo. The Penguins fought HARD and helped produce some of the best hockey I've ever seen. The fans were LOUD and raucous all the way, and gave the team a huge cheer at the very end. Nice job Pitt. Congrats Wings!

The great thing about the Wings winning a post-salary cap Stanley Cup is that it shuts up the "best team money can buy" garbage. Holland and the organization have an amazing eye for talent, particularly young players in whom they can see something that they can mold into league elite. When you think of all the notable departures and retirements they've had and still keep on winning, it's staggering. Konstantinov, Larionov, Fedorov, Shannahan, Yzerman, etc. Losing that much talent over the years would cripple most teams.

BCS officials reject playoff proposal Bowl Championship Series officials rejected a plan Wednesday to turn the much-criticized system for deciding a national champ into a four-team playoff. The BCS format will remain the same until at least the 2014 season.

It's unfortunate that the FBS system continues to be a popularity contest and by extension a sham. I quit actively following I-A college football years ago, opting for I-AA (FCS). With the crew of FCS teams that come in and beat FBS teams every year (Appalachian State, New Hampshire) I don't really miss the FBS. FCS has a real championship for a legitimate champion, and a lot of lesser-known schools that field good teams with a lot of heart.

Notre Dame made some really good teams look really bad, including my UNH wildcats as well as the school I transferred from, Michigan. Congrats to both teams for knocking off some serious competition, and congrats to Boston College for winning it all! They really turned it up late in the season.
