Lakers to Get Howard, Lose Bynum in Four-Team Trade

Great.. as if the Lakers weren't insufferable before, now they get Howard for Bynum and the last pick in the first round! I hope something fouls this deal up. Or maybe one basketball won't be enough for them. The only thing I like about the entire trade is how this will be accepted in Miami...

Joba Chamberlain suffers life-threatening ankle injury on a trampoline.

27 years old... a little bit beyond the age where you think you're going to live forever and accidents happen to other people. Usually by 25 you start to consider that your actions have consequences. Jeopardize millions of dollars to bounce up and down? There's really only one word for that; Stupid. It's people like Joba that make prove the statement 'youth is wasted on the young' a true statement. I wonder if he violated any of the terms in his contract. That would add insult to his injury. Every so often you hear of some bone-headed move by an athlete that defies wisdom. Hopefully others in a similar position will take heed and wait until a more appropriate time to stick their neck (foot) out for a thrill.

Jerry West: Teams shouldn't give in

I think a lot of fans would be supportive. There's no perfect solution. Sending a message like that would only prove to strengthen the integrity of the game, not undermine it. It takes more than one player to win.

Jerry West: Teams shouldn't give in

If just one time an owner said NO and paid a player for one year without letting him play, they'd put a stop to this "I want to be traded to one of these three teams only", bull----. I think the fans would be supportive. I can't speak for everyone, but I bet almost all of the fans are tired of these fat cat millionaire ballplayers forcing trades. Take a poll in Cleveland or Orlando, see what they think of all of this. Pretty soon becoming a 'superstar' will automatically earn you a spot on the Knicks or Nets, Lakers or Mavs roster. I'm ready for baseball. At least there it's not an everyday occurrence...

Florida Requires Pro Sports Teams to Take In Homeless

Make each team owner pony up a million bucks to build a homeless shelter in their communities, create a dozen or so jobs, donate another million or so to the whistleblower's campaign fund, and sweep the issue under the rug. Sound good? Sound right? Or...

A week or two from now this will be a non-issue. The legislators will have wrung a campaign donation and their 15 minutes out of it and they'll move on to some other momentary headline that shows all of us how much they care...

OK, maybe that's a little harsh, but after watching President Obama's State of the Campaign Speech the other night, where he touched on all the same things he did nothing about in the past four years, I guess I AM cynical. And I'm a democrat! If you haven't made any progress by the time November rolls around, I just might have to rethink my vote. YOU, Mr. President, need to do something, not 'Send me a bill and I will sign it right now.' Make it happen! My apologies, readers, for going off topic and on a tangent.

Bobby Hebert Defends Confronting Les Miles

Was Hebert stumping for Les Miles' job? He was worse than some of the TV lawyers, editorializing rather than just asking a question. His rant brings to mind the old quote about 'a little knowledge is dangerous'. Your gunslingin' days are over, Hebert, acquire the common sense needed to do your job in a proper manner.

Pippen: LeBron's Better Than Michael

Since it's just what Pippen 'thinks' and there won't be any way to compare until Lebron's career is over (hope he takes a year or two off at his peak to make the comparison more meaningful), I'll tell you what I think... I think Oscar Robertson was better than either of them! For comparison purposes, the Big O averaged a Triple Double for an entire season during his illustrious career. And his career stats? Quite the comparison, eh? I know this will rile a bunch of Jordan lovers, most of who never saw Oscar play. But that's ok too, this is just what 'I' think! Doesn't mean a thing, won't change anything either. But speaking strictly of Jordan or Lebron, who would you pick if you were starting a team? I'll take Michael...

“He plays like a child enjoying the pasture, playing for the pleasure of playing, not the duty of winning."

Wow! Read this article and you can almost understand the rest of the world's passion for soccer! I've never watched with more than passing interest, but the way Lionel Messi's play was disected is enough for me to tune in next Saturday for the Champions League final against Manchester United. Comparisons to Pele and Diego Maradona make it sound like you'll be watching someone special. I'll bite!

Texas High School Beats Opponent 170-35

CLASS with a capital A.. I think the Yates coach will discover the error of his ways in the next week or so. Anyone that recognizes him will look at him with shame, deservedly so...

This Page is Illegal in Argentina, Thanks to Diego Maradona

Embarrassing? Nah.. there's some angle we don't know about that will add cash to their bank accounts. Pretty soon they'll all want royalties every time their name is mentioned in a newspaper.

You can't do without Shaq!

Freestyle? Is that another word for 'time out' or 'just kidding'? If an announcer on ABC Sports calls an athlete 'a little monkey' and rhymes it, then it's ok? I like Shaq. But anyone who thinks he doesn't harbor some resentment toward Kobe and that lame crap he spewed was just in fun is deluding themself. He meant every single word or he wouldn't have said it. In this time of heightened sensitivity, where every word or phrase is overly scrutinized, it's time for sports stars and others to be held accountable like everyone else.

Isiah Permanently Ejected

Great player, the most God-awful coach/GM/whatever in the history of basketball. I loved him as a player, but only because he played for my Pistons. He had that baby-faced, angelic smile, but was a total thug underneath. A dangerous combination, one that I'm sure carried him farther in the business end of basketball than ever should have happened. A great day for basketball.

Top 10 Unbreakable Sports Records

I wonder what list of records the author started with. Seems to me he didn't consider quite a few while compiling his list. Byron Nelson's 11 PGA tour victories and Martina Navratilova's 341 could challenge several of his choices, and there are certainly many others. I think Wilt's 50.4 single season scoring average is more impressive than 100 points. And how about Oscar Robertson's "triple double" average for a whole SEASON? And then there are some more obscure records. Anybody remember Alexander Karelin? That scary Russian Roman-Greco wrestler back in the 80s who body slammed heavyweights? He went some long period of time without even being scored on! Lists are always subjective, but this one isn't even close.

The Ten Best Individual Sports Rivalries

If you take the 60s, 70s, and 80s out of the equation, what do you have left? Is it safe to say this time period is the Golden Age of sports? Yes, if you created this list.. There is no doubt Top Ten lists are subjective. This person put some thought into his list, but he based it on personal preferences. No football? No SOCCER?! I'm no fan of soccer, but I'm willing to bet there is a major rivalry there somewhere. Those fans are rabid, so there has to be something to it. I live north of Detroit, so you can easily guess my personal favorite. But I wonder where it would end up on a genuine, unbiased world top ten.. GO BLUE!
