Tempered Bid: Jack Morris says he is working to gain votes to the Hall of Fame but wouldn't seek induction if a steroid user is elected. "They're all cheaters in my opinion," Morris said. (reg. reqd: sports@filter.com, pw: com.com)

SportsFilter cited on ask.yahoo.com: Part of JJ's comment was quoted in a question about why, in baseball, it's called an inning. No, it wasn't the Eddie Izzard line that was quoted.

I agree that the NBA system doesn't make any sense, but there are problems with the NHL system too. There was a little controversy about Kyle Okposo leaving the University of Minnesota mid-season to sign with the Islanders. If they were able to modify it so kids couldn't leave a program mid-season, I think it would make a lot more sense.
You can find details on the Okposo "controversy" on his Wikipedia page.

Joe Mauer, A.J. Pierzynski and Tommy Herr have all been members of the Minnesota Twins at one time. Twins are two of something, like runs, perhaps? Also, Pujols' Wikipedia article features him wearing a 1982 uniform while playing in the Metrodome, the home stadium of the Minnesota Twins. I'm just sayin'.

I never liked the guy, but that's only because my brother at random moments throughout my childhood would say (like the intro to the show), "Alll.....Staaarr....Wrestling!" and then proceed to beat the crap outta me.

Slight correction: it's the victim's family saying it would be inhumane to press charges:
But in news reports today, family members of the victim, Helmut Gutmann, said charges against Gagne would be "inhumane".

Tafoya worked at WCCO, a Minneapolis station, as a sports reporter for several years and also worked at Midwest Sports Channel (which eventually became Fox Sports North) as a sideline reporter for Timberwolves broadcasts, so Garnett and Tafoya have known each other for quite awhile. That might explain away some of the "casualness" going on in the interview.

But anyone looking at the math of the Baltimore Ravens offense has a stronger constitution than I do. I agree. I thought it was impossible to divide by zero.

It doesn't have my two favorite sports quotes: "Seventy-five percent of the earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Smoot." -- Fred Smoot "You need two yards, I'll get you three. You need ten yards, I'll get you three." -- Leroy Hoard

I'm no great baseball mind, but Ichiro would definitely be in my top five active players.

St. Peter is a town of about 10,000 people, actually, and it's twelve miles from St. Peter to Mankato, not ten. I haven't lived their since 2nd grade in 1982 and even I know this. :)

Actually, it was Chucky Atkins involved in the Hill/Wallace trade, not Billups.

Great link, thanks. My favorite part: Williams walked off the field lugging behind him that unsightly 0 for 13 -- which remains an all-time record for single-game futility -- and headed for the clubhouse for a well-deserved beer. "But we had this guy, Mark Corey, who had gotten taken out of the game in about the 13th inning," Williams said. "And when we got back to the clubhouse, all the beer was gone and [Corey] was hammered. I mean, hammered."

So did Holmgren come out to shake hands or not? That's what I want to know.

Education Secretary Wants No Post-Season Play for Low-Graduation Schools
I like where he's going with this, but he also seems to be ignoring the fact that there are a lot of things affecting these numbers that are out of the colleges' control. There's nothing the school can do if a kid drops out as soon as his senior basketball season is over.
