Tomorrow is Today for Nextel Cup... NASCAR announces that the Car of Tomorrow will be the only car run on the Nextel Cup circuit in 2008. The implementation is one year ahead of the original plan, and was driven by team economics. Also, in the fallout of Dale Earnhardt Junior's announcement that he's leaving Dale Earnhardt, Incorporated, DEI announces an engine-building partnership with Richard Childress Racing.

Dale Jr. docked 100 points and his crew chief suspended six races for what NASCAR says was obviously intentional cheating.

NASCAR continues to lose fans left and right. This is part of it, so is the obvious dirty driving, horrible broadcaster teams, 24/7 over exposure, and simply an inferior product (type of racing). Ticket sales are down and TV ratings are down. They had their day in the sun, but that past and they are on the road downhill.
The 'Next Jeff Gordon' Begins His NASCAR Career When they asked NASCAR driver Mark Martin in 2005 who he'd pick as his replacement at Roush Racing, his answer was quick: Joey Logano. "I would put him in that car in a heartbeat," Martin said, naming a 14-year-old who wasn't even old enough to be allowed to race at the top level yet. "I'm telling you, he's ready. He's good enough to do it." Logano, now 16 (but still only 5-foot-7 and 112 pounds), begins his NASCAR career in Phoenix Thursday.

There is no weight limit in nascar. If you watch a F1 race the driver, with his helmet and all his gear he had on in the car are weighed within seconds of parking the cars. As soon as the podium show is over the car is weighed, if you listen to the in car audio you will hear the teams tell the drivers to pick up clag (marbles to nascar folks). This is because the extra pound or two can make the difference in passing the post race inspection. Lewis Hamilton is looking to be a great driver at yet another level, to top one to boot. Having the contract with Ron in his pocket had to take tons of stress off of him as he was coming up. Only time will tell. Remember Jacques VILLENEUVE won the world championship his 2nd year out, it helped that he landed in the top seat in the sport at the time. The same thing is helping Lewis big time. If he was driving a Torro Rosso I am sure he would be totally off the radar at this point.
Mailman coming back for one more delivery: After spending the last several weeks contemplating a comeback, the former two-time NBA Most Valuable Player has decided to return for the Jazz's playoff run.

Say it is so, Joe! ESPN to replace Joe Theismann with Ron Jaworski on Monday Night Football. Joy at change tempered by fact that ESPN actually did something right for a change. Waiting for other shoe to drop ("Check out Joe Theismann's nightly segment on Pardon the Interruption!").

Just because Theisman worked for them for 20 years does not mean he is ready or able to do the top job, MNF. Some people work 20 years in the mail room or just being a desk jockey, this does not mean they are ready for the CEO job. He may have been good at the other jobs he did for ESPN, but that does not mean he was ready or had the skills to do MNF. I think Tony Kornheiser is good in his MNF role, but he is awsome on PTI. As for the injuried retired players someone mentioned before. It is possible to live the rest of your life off the pay these guys get in 1 or 2 seasons and never have to work again, that is, if the money is wisely invested. 5 hummers and all the diamonds and houses and partying, is not forced on them. If they chose to be foolish with the millions they are given to play a game, it is no one elses fault. They need to take resposibility and invest their money wisely. No one needs a 10 million dollar home. If they blow their money, why is it anyone elses fault?
2007 Formula One World Championship preview With Melbourne mere days away, what can we expect from the top drivers fighting to be number one? A column by sportsfilter's own Drood.

Ever since Damon Hill retired, I have been a fanof the sport rather than a driver or team. This looks to be the most wide open, competitive year I have seen in a long time. I can not wait for the race. I hope it comes down to 3 drivers at the last race to decide both championships!!!
The new MotoGP season started this past Sunday in Qatar , so this seems like a good time to get a preview on the 2007 season. My first impression on the new season: Pedrosa needs to learn how to properly hit the corners and everybody else needs to get used to seeing the backsides of the Ducatis in the straight aways.

Rose admits to betting on Reds every night Pete Rose revealed Wednesday that he bet on the Reds "every night" while he was manager of the team and that the Dowd Report was correct when it said he did so."I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team, I believe in my team," Rose said. "I did everything in my power every night to win that game."

C.C. Sabathia looks around Cleveland's clubhouse and sees something missing "There aren't very many African-American players, and it's not just in here, it's everywhere. It's not just a problem -- it's a crisis."

justgary said "Losing half of the population as a possible source of talent is bad for the game" Where did you get this insane number from? It just smacked of racism when I read it. In 2005 12.8 of the population in the United States was "Black or African American". 50% of that number would stand to be female and therefore not major candidates for a MLB team. So we are at 6.4% of the population. Actually the number is 97.1 males for every 100 females in 2005, so the number would fall closer to 6%. "Hispanic or Latinos" make up 14.4% of the United States population in 2005 Yes there are MORE of the same race of people he is so upset about having more players in Baseball. How is that 50%??? Source www.infoplease.com If you want to talk about minorities, take a look at my "race" American Indian and Alaska Native 1.0%, funny how you don't hear us calling for 1% of players and owners of all sports be of our "race".
Death Race 2007 Unnecessary is the entire point of the Tough Guy competition, a semi-annual 8-mile race through mud, manure, water, fire, more mud, barbed wire, nets, electrical charges, still more mud, smoke grenades, sewer pipes, ice, even more mud, ropes, cables, tires, on a horse farm in England's West Midlands. Make sure to check out the vid at the top of the page.

One Good Turn Deserves Another! Legendary University of Tennessee Basketball Coach Pat Summitt dons Vol cheerleader garb, sings, cheers, and (barely) tops a human pyramid to support Coach Bruce Pearl and the Volunteers against Florida. Summitt returned the support after Pearl showed up at a Lady Vols' game in full body paint. Inspired no doubt by Summitt's act, the Vols beat the Gators 86-76 to finish a perfect 16-0 at home.

The "old NHL" lives on. Two of the most skilled teams in the league went at it Broad-Street-Bullies-style last night. After a questionable late hit to Chris Drury, all hell broke loose. Senators goalie Ray Emery, back from a 3-game suspension, celebrated by fighting Sabres keeper Martin Biron and enforcer Andrew Peters. Does the NHL need more or less of this?

This was GREAT. It is old time hockey. Fightting is allowed, because it has been a part of the game forever AND the fans cant easily get involved. Does anyone remember the phily fan that took on tie domi when he was in the sin bin? Has that guy came out of the coma yet? I would pick a fight with an NFL player before a NHL player. Especially one of the enforcers.
SlapShot Part II USC hockey goalie rides stick like a horse then moons the crowd while slapping his butt cheeks. No report yet if Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken protested

Dad intervenes during his son's wrestling match. While the match is going, a father perceives his son to be in trouble and jumps in to help out. He launches his son's opponent about five feet into the air. Unbelievable.
