Bo Schembechler Dies on Eve of Michigan/Ohio State Game Former University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler collapsed during a TV show taping and has died, according to a Detroit TV station. In some extremely mistimed bad taste, an Ohio State-supporting band called the Dead Schembechlers have been getting lots of press this week.

My grandmother just called me with the news. She was a Michigan season-ticket holder for 30 years, starting in the Schembechler era. She said that she felt as if she had lost a friend. Even though I only saw him coach one game (and I was only four years old, at that), this news hit me hard. What a sad day.
