"The chief executive officer of Tribune Company says he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field -- even if baseball purists don't like the idea. Zell has a suggestion for the makers of DoubleMint and Juicy Fruit.
'Perhaps the Wrigley Company will decide after getting it for free for so long that's time to pay for it,' he said."

Pedro Martinez, Juan Marichal filmed at cock fight A video of Martinez and Marichal at a cockfight was posted this week on YouTube and it showed the two laughing before releasing the roosters. They took part as honourary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight. The fight takes place in their home country, the Dominican Republic, where cockfighting is legal and popular. It is banned throughout the United States

Baseball GMs Vote in Favor of Instant Replay. In a move sure to make at least one former SportsFilter member roll over in his grave/production booth, baseball GMs have voted to propose that MLB adopt instant replay for disputed home run calls.

A-Rod a Mud Hen? Alex Rodriguez was offered a lucrative minor league contract from the Toledo Mud Hens. Of course it came from one of George Steinbrenner's sons. Will this be the only offer he gets considering he is asking for a $350 million contrat just to begin negotiations?

A-Rod Opts Out of Contract He has taken off th pinstripes. I think he did this now to divorce himself from the managerial decision coming tomorrow. I also think that he knows something about Posada, Rivera, and Pettitte that others don't. Where's he going: nobody knows.

Veterans Committee picks no one for Hall NEW YORK - No one was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Ron Santo, Jim Kaat and all the other candidates were left out Tuesday when the Veterans Committee admitted no new members for the third straight election.

I think the Hall of Fame gets it pretty much right. It is an exclusive club and should remain so. They shouldn't have to vote anyone in that doesn't meet a high standard! Even though it seems to work, I don't even agree with the Veterans Committee being necessary - if your eligibility is up, that should be it.

The Cubs have not won a World Series since they have moved into Wrigley Field - I would think Cub fans would do anything to see a World Series winner. But no, they would rather die than give up the name of the owner that provided them with nothing but a sunburn!
