ACC admits to 'timing error' in final seconds in Duke win over Clemson. Using the video supplied by ESPN on the page, it is clear that the winning basket would not have been made in time, and the game should have gone into overtime. Everyone always complains how the referees 'play favorites' for Duke...this is an example.

Champions League on ice? Well, it may not be quite as illustrious as the futbol version, but International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) president Rene Fasel proposes a club championship game between the Stanley Cup winner and the European Champions Cup winner. Should the game get played, I'm guessing that the trustees will deny any challenge for the Cup. [via MrFrisby in the spofi campfire]

I think this is a fantastic idea. On the other hand there is room for controversy. If they pull this off it would be a game of olympic proportions in my mind. Imagine being the best hockey team in the world. One problem I see is if you have, say, a Swedish player on your team and we play Sweden, where is that players loyalty going to lay?
One Toke Over The Line, Ron Mexico... Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick "reluctantly" turned over a water bottle to TSA agents at the Miami-Dade International Airport yesterday. Upon closer inspection, the bottle had a hidden compartment containing "a dark particulate" and emanating "a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana." Considering that Ron Mexico's had at least one TSA problem before, why would you even try to get something through security?

Evolution of the NHL Goaltenders were the first to benefit from a major rule change. Prior to the 1917-18 season, the rules were changed to allow goaltenders to fall to the ice to make a save. Previously they had been penalized for such action. Since then, most rule changes were implemented to increase scoring.

Beckham makes it official. He'll move from Real Madrid to the LA Galaxy this summer. What impact will this have on MLS and the state of the game in America? Can Becks conquer even a disinterested America?

Scoring With A Heavy Heart. After learning that a friend's lung cancer had spread to his brain, Anaheim's Teemu Selanne scores his first hat trick in six years, powered by emotion and his promise to save the puck for his friend if he scored three goals. Said Selanne, "I don't think he has much time to live...life is not fair sometimes."

When does a pro sports league not follow its own rules? Apparently when hockey refs assume a puck crossed the goal line, even thought the rules require "visible evidence" (e.g., actually SEEING the puck go across the line) to award a goal and overturn a "No Goal" call that was made on the ice. The visiting Columbus Blue Jackets lost to the Minnesota Wild last night when a phantom goal was awarded in overtime to the home team. The game was important for the Jackets, who trailed Minnesota by 7 points going into last night's game for the last playoff spot in the conference. Yes, I'm a Jackets fan, but I'd feel bad for any team that had this happen to them.

I too disagree with the Bears - Packers spread. I think the Bears are going to take it to the Packers to show that they are in it for the trophey. They were quoted in Green Bays paper today as saying "we are treating this as our first playoff game". As far as Favre retiring; he has the mindset that he can get the 12 TD passes to tie Marino's record that he will keep coming back until he gets it even though he is a 16th season, 25th ranked QB. We do have one helluva QB at my daughters school, just a thought.
Flex this! NBC has exercised its right to move the Chicago Bears/Green Bay Packers from noon to 7:15 p.m. on Sunday in accordance with the network's TV deal with the NFL. This is great news for TV viewers, but not so great if you have New Year's Eve plans or children, says Tribune columnist Ed Sherman.

Here in Green Bay every bar has at least six TV screens, so it won't affect the amatuers that believe they have to start at 6:00. Then there are those who have long sense realized New Years Eve is not a good reason to be loud and stupid and try to play hide and seek from the DUI cops. I will probably watch something else and flash back to see the score on occasion. I was surprised that the paper only has the Bears by three. The Packers are going to take a dive. Even if every thing was to fall in place in their favor, they still have to win this game. It just isn't going to happen. They don't have it & Favre is only staying because he wants Marino's TD passing record. He needs to get over it, it is just not going to happen with the currrent team. Bears by 14!
'Scuse me while I whip this out... Florida Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis arrested on suspicion of DUI after cops observe him get out of his car and urinate in the street in Miami. Personally, I'd have held off on drunken shenanigans until after I'd finished with my contract negotiations. Then again, that's just me.

Is his license going to get suspended for 6 months, get 200 hours community service, undergo alcohol assessment like you or I? No, BECAUSE he was all over the media and it made him someone to talk about and make jokes about DUI. Look at this stream, how many of you ignorant dorks have made jokes about this Bently driving potential death machine pissing in the street. There is nothing to laugh about and because he has money and celebrity status he will not go through what we poor peasents would, that is just the facts. Do your reaserch and see how many pro athletes and other famous people have DUI but are still drinking and driving. Maybe they will hit you next, and if you live, you can laugh then.

As a recovering alcoholic, sober 7 years, I have no sympathy for this man. I know I did really stupid and reckless stuff and it was inexcusable. His actions, I don't care how fat his wallet is or what he drives or where he was parked are not an excuse for DUI. He has no excuse and the bitch of it all is that sence he has money he won't get shit for this compared to what you or I would get.

My Dad lives in Indianapolis and swears by the Colts (and the Pacers, so you know, well....) He is really sweating it now, especially after last week. Yeah I live in G.B now, but yes I was born and raised a Hoosier, please don't hold it against me. I love looking in the paper to see any Indy loss. All Indy has that I care for is the racing. I don't know what is going on with Manning, maybe he and Favre have been hanging out.

You know, I have always agreed with your Packer picks, and as I have said I live in G.B. & am not a fan, but this time I have to differ. Detroit has a very distinct advantage this week. My in-laws are in town to see the game. They love the Packers and think they are the best team there is. They are from the U.P. of MI., what do you expect. Very weird thinking there. Anyway with them in the stands it puts a hex on the Packers and gives the Lions an edge. I say Detroit anything over the Packers. Besides, lets let the Lions have a win, the Packers aren't going to the playoffs anyway.
Almost 49 years since the Munich air crash, Manchester United and England icon Sir Bobby Charlton is still haunted "It was taking so long to get off the ground and I suddenly realised that everyone felt the same. Then it went really quiet and as I looked out the window we hit a fence. We knocked it flat and then everyone knew this was really serious."

How many threads have we had that end up in conspiracy theorys about an official intentionally favoring one team over another. Get over it, they are no more perfect than the rest of us. Shit happens!
