Pistons get Iverson for Billups, McDyess, Samb It appears the promised shake-up has come to the Pistons. The Pistons are expected to trade guard Chauncey Billups, forward Antonio McDyess and center Cheikh Samb to the Denver Nuggets for guard Allen Iverson, the Free Press has learned.

Chauncey has struggled in the playoffs the last few years, but choke artist might be a bit strong. I guess 04 was a long time ago.

Doc - AI isn't replacing Billups, Stuckey is. I don't think you'll see AI playing point full time, which should open him up for his preferred role of black hole...errr...scorer.

Ah, yes dave, I did read the article. Unfortunately, I have read several articles from Wells and they all seem to have the same piss and vinegar quality. Perhaps I just automatically read his work as whiny complaining rather than the exemplary journalism you seem to think it.

Scathing article by Wells, although it comes off as if his feelings were hurt because Paolantonio doesn't care for soccer. Axe grinding and all that.

The Hoser's NFL Picks, Week Three 2008 NFL picks that think everything goes better with backbacon.

Couldnt they find better hands down at Pike Place Fish Market?

Yes, yes they could. Those guys can play some serious catch with fish.

The weekly Hoser picks are a nice Friday tradition to keep going, even if an evil imp stole all your apostrophes.

Yeah firecop, but it sounds like a C-Y-A statement from NYPD. No way to really know what happened. If it went down the way Campeau-Laurion says it did, then I hope this kind of shit doesn't start happening more frequently.

An Open Letter From Roger Ebert To Jay Mariotti Mariotti is an easy target at the best of times, but his abrupt departure from the Chicago Sun-Times, right after they paid his way to China for the Olympics, left his most distinguished now-former colleague more than a little out of joint. And no one writes a screw-you letter like Roger Ebert.

Dviking is right. While the newspaper industry is suffering a bit right now, it is still trying to come up with ways to fully utilize the web, and in the meantime is doing what it can with ads, blogs, etc. They'll evolve, adapt, and survive through this ailing period. Besides, there's just something about reading a newspaper that I don't get from reading the same content online and I suspect others feel the same. After all, you can't take your computer in the can with you, or at least you shouldn't.

Bengals Resign Troubled Receiver Chris Henry With their two Pro Bowl receivers hurt, the Cincinnati Bengals brought back troubled receiver Chris Henry on Tuesday, a move that their coach had emphatically ruled out only a month earlier as inappropriate. The signing helps the team but raises questions about its commitment to holding players accountable for their actions.

Once again, talent trumps conduct.

Aren't the other receivers supposed to be recovered from their injuries by week 5? I don't see the reason for bringing this guy back if he has to sit out the first four weeks.

NFL.com fantasy football vs. Yahoo fantasy football besides participating in the Spofi head to head, I usually run a h2h league at work. In the past I've used Yahoo, but I wondered if anyone has experience with the NFL.com free fantasy game and has an opinion of their respective goodness. Any thoughts?

I was in an NFL.com league for the first time last season and didn't like it as much as Yahoo, which I've used for 5 or 6 years. Mostly it was the way the commish organized the league (waaaay too many teams, funky scoring, and not enough bench spots) but the website was much more cumbersome for me than Yahoo's. Also, we didn't have an online draft and had to do drafting over email, which was terribly painful. I assume NFL.com has a live draft capability and that the commish dropped the ball, but that might be something for you to double check just in case.

Favre Asks For Release Favre seeks unconditional release from Packers, sources say. How much worse can this get for the Packers?

posted by jda at 07:00 PM on July 12

Favre isn't in front of a camera, isn't chiming in on talk radio, and isn't writing columns for newspapers or websites. The circus is created by the sports media who have nothing more interesting to report. If you're tired of hearing about it, blame the media for the beating of a dead horse. Its not like Favre went through the media to announce he'd like to return, it was leaked.

I find it very strange that GB doesn't want Favre next season. How can you take an unproven (albeit promising) Rodgers over Favre? I realize they want to get Rodgers up to full speed and see what he can do, but the ultimate goal is still to win a superbowl and I have to think Favre gives them the best chance to do that this season. With AP in Minnesota, I find it scary that Favre could go there. If defenses have to concern themselves with AP, Favre could pick the secondary apart and have another anomalous season.

Ring it up! Celtics crush Lakers for 17th title There were legendary Celtics sitting in the stands, with names like Russell, Havlicek, Heinsohn, Maxwell, Ainge, and White, who could all tell stories about the days when they touched the NBA championship trophy, sprayed champagne on each other, and watched Red Auerbach proudly puff on a victory cigar. After a 22-year wait that included the retirement of Larry Bird, lots of lean years, and the death of Auerbach, the Celtics have new legends named Pierce, Allen, and Garnett, who now can tell their stories about touching the trophy, spraying champagne, and wishing Red were here to witness it.

Further evidence of getting what you pay for Somebody tell this to the Yankees. I'm happy that Garnett, Allen, and Pierce finally got rings, as all three seem to be good guys. For the Lakers, it will be interesting to see if Bynum's return to the lineup has the effect that some are predicting. But the one thing I think everyone learned from this finals is that Kobe is NOT Jordan. Many of the talking heads on TV and radio were too quick to crown him as the next MJ. Hopefully we don't have to listen to the comparisons anymore.

An Instant Classic "A rivalry between the league's two most storied franchises -- with some of the game's biggest names and biggest moments -- now has its biggest rally. No team had ever overcome more than a 15-point deficit after the first quarter, and Elias Sports Bureau said it was the biggest comeback in the finals since 1971. One thing's for sure, it will forever be remembered in the annals of Celtics-Lakers lore."

Junior Mint: The enduring popularity (and ubiquity) of the 1989 upper deck Ken Griffey Jr. Card When Griffey hits home run No. 600, don't look for the value of Upper Deck No. 1 to skyrocket. After all, there's likely a card in circulation for every person living in the city centers of Cincinnati and Seattle. That sheer quantity, though, does mean that the lasting image of Ken Griffey Jr. won't be anything he does on the baseball field. It will be a picture of an overjoyed teenager in an airbrushed Mariners hat.

There was a time when my young mind thought I had a fortune in waiting with Frank Thomas' Leaf rookie and this Junior rookie. The fact is that if I sold both of these today I may get a tank of gas or two. Now if I had one of those blue Griffey's, that might be worth something.
