Minor-league skipper gets major-league gift Major Leaguers are spoiled, self-absorbed thankless jerks. All of them. Except maybe Joe Crede. Get ready to be a Crede fan (and maybe take that stereotype down a notch).

I once gave Joe Crede a ride to the airport, while working at "The Cell". We stopped to fill my Jeep Grand Cherokee up with gas on the way. He not only payed for the gas (roughly $40) he also grabbed a big bag of Funyuns, and a 6 pack of Heineken for the ride. By the time we got to O'Hare, I felt like I was dropping off my older brother. What a class act.

Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest Four-time world champion, and odds favorite, (1/3), Takeru Kobayashi of Japan will once again defend his title against top eaters from around the globe. The tough competition includes Eric "Badlands" Booker, (9/5), Oleg Zhornitsky, (4/1), and "Hungry" Charles Hardy, (7/1), while the 'field' is represented by notables Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, US record holder, Joey Chestnut and 60 year-old Rich LeFevre and his wife, Carlene LeFevre. Santioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating it will, of course, meet their safety standards.

Pink's is good, Nathan's are better. Just ask Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They both have trouble "binging and purging" on Nathan's while they are in town. Pink's come up real easy. I'd say Portillo's in Chicago may be the best!

Good hitters are few and far between. Biggio is my favorite player, great career, certain Hall of Famer, about to reach 3000 hits next season, congrats. Why is there only a few active players that make it to that number? It doesn't look like anyone will hit 3000 for about 8 years(Jeter), what an intersting gap....

Maybe it's cause more pitchers are juicing now too? I just read an interesting article in ESPN magazine. Makes perfect sense to me.

Report: NFLPA against blood testing for HGH "When you start talking about coming in to take a person's blood, that's different than taking someone's urine," Upshaw told the NFLPA. "I know personally I would have a problem with someone coming in and trying to take the players' blood. I'm not ready to make that leap."

I couldn't agree with you more. That's actually why I brought up the 1999 season. I will admit that I did not put two and two together until your "greenie" comment. Maybe I just had blinders on? I knew that "greenies" did not come into play until the 60's. Was only joking about Gehrig being on anything besides natural talent.

You may be right, considering one of Ripken's best seasons was 1999. I believe he hit around .340, and averaged a career high homerun every 19 at bats or so, while only striking out 40 times. No where near the big names in 1999, but that wasn't his game. Other than that, he basically just strapped it on, and played day in, day out for a team that pretty much "sucked", his entire career. Never got caught up in the money, SIGNED AUTOGRAPHS for fans, didn't hit his wife with a rum bottle, didn't threaten to kill girlfriends (if he even had any on the side) on their answering machine, and stayed with the team that drafted him. Might have something to do with his father, but more than likely has something do with being a man. His numbers are no where near Lou Gehrig's! Was Gehrig on "greenies" all those seasons? Maybe?? Mattingly's only problem was not wanting to cut his hair. Sandburg's issues involved everyone "screwing" his wife. Including, Rafael Palmeiro.
