Christian News Site Turns Athlete Homosexual OneNewsNow, an online news service owned by the American Family Association, has been editing AP stories to automatically replace the word "gay" with "homosexual," filing numerous stories about the American sprinter Tyson Homosexual and the NBA player Rudy Homosexual. One story still online: "Memphis Grizzlies backers hit the hay hoping that Kevin Love would open things up for Rudy Homosexual in the frontcourt."

Let's all be happy and homosexual!

No thanks. What is this, the 80's or something?

The French finally found a way to stop Americans from winning the Tour...Just doctor their test results and call them cheaters...They couldn't make it stick to Armstrong so here we are.

Just another of the many reasons to hate the French.

Title IX, Curse or Blessing? Title IX opened a door for women in athletics. Its impact has been great, and has led to more and more opportunities for women to excel. Particularly at the high school level, I have seen many young girls become confident young ladies from their participation in athletics. Many feel that Title IX has led to decreased opportunity for male athletes. In this article, the author raises many valid questions concerning the way in which Title IX is interpreted.

I have not looked it up but I don't think football is all that profitable once the expences are paid.

Most of the money is from donations from boosters. If the football team does well the donations start coming in. When the team does bad, the donations stop and coaches get fired.

Barry Bonds offers to play for free.
My opinion on Bonds is no secret, however I noticed this tidbit in the paper yesterday and have been meaning to post about it. Barry Bonds' agent has offered his services to all 30 teams, at a pro-rated salary of the league minimum (at this point, about $200,000 total), even offering to play for free by donating that salary to buying tickets for the game; his trial date isn't until next March, so he would not be prevented from playing.

Despite this, apparently Barry's agent has received no interest, bolstering claims that the league is colluding to prevent him being hired.

Any team that picks up Bonds risks the posibility of losing fans. The fans are the ones that buy the $10 pisswater and $7 franks etc... I just can't see any team's fans reacting well to "their team" signing Barry Bonds. I think Barry pretty much black-balled himself. People don't like cheaters, period.

Comment icon posted at 10:17 PM CDT on June 27

You know to what fans react well? Producing on the field and helping the team win. If Barry were to put up numbers a little lower than what he did in 2007, and the team he played for did well and made the playoffs, lots of "haters" would become "fans" real quick.

Unlike you, I'd like to give fellow fans the benefit of the doubt. The only reason fans were drawn to the Giants games over the past few years is because it was like a chance to win the lottery every time Barry stepped to the plate. Now it's over and the fans are over it and him.

As for A and B, I'm therefore shocked that a team like the Phillies (and their fans) would have Brett Myers, or the Red Sox would have Julio Lugo. Unless, of course, fans think alleged spousal abuse (with signed statements from the victim) is more acceptable than alleged steroid use.

As far as that comment goes, you might be right. However the truth of the matter is that Barry is like TO in the clubhouse. A cancer. Let me know when TO wins a super bowl...

This season, a specific era, or all time?

If you change favorite teams more than you change your socks...ur probably not much of a fan.

You can't do without Shaq! Noted rapper Shaquille O'Neal, (8 albums, 1 platinum, 5 gold), goes freestyle on Kobe. Despite Shaq claiming that it was done in fun, Deputy O'Neal is being fired coast to coast.

Stick to b-ball Shaq...Oh wait, you suck at that too now.

Comment icon posted at 7:32 PM CDT on June 26

Ohh, docshredder calling out Shaq with a personal attack. Hmm, sounds like an interesting departure from doc's opinion of Mr. Wade's actions regarding Mr. Chacon in a previous posting, even if he is right. I Shaq now allowed to kick your ass or manhandle you?

Your name fits you well... If you check the posting we were talking about profanity...Also, I'm not stupid enough to talk shit to Shaq in a face to face situation.

Back to the topic... Regarding the "didn't Shaq win a title without Kobe?" coments. Shaq has never won a title on a team when he was the only all-star. Neither has Kobe. However, Shaq did kill the Suns last year even though he had Amare and Nash (both all-stars), and Kobe made it to the Finals without another all-star on the roster...

I asked this question during the Finals post, but no one answered so here it goes again:

Can anyone name a team that has won an NBA title with only 1 all-star?

Comment icon posted at 7:27 PM CDT on June 27

I just answered my own question, the '94 and '95 Rockets are the only teams in the last 20 years to win a Championship with only one all-star. Shaq has never won a title on a team when he was the only all-star. Neither has Kobe. Neither did Magic or Bird or JORDAN (yes god himself). But Hakeem has? Yup...twice! So he can rap all he wants about whoever he wants...

Comment icon posted at 7:50 PM CDT on June 27

Has Shaq even been on a team with only one all-star? Shaq's mere presence may create all-stars.

So Dwayne Wade would not be an all-star without Shaq?

Astros' Shawn Chacon Suspended After Fight with GM Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon has been suspended after a physical altercation with general manager Ed Wade in the team's dining room. "He started yelling and cussing," said Chacon, recently demoted to the bullpen. "... I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him because at that point I wanted to beat his [butt]." Team owner Drayton McLane said Chacon will never pitch for the team again: "You can't defy authority."

A general manager using profanity when addressing a player in public could easily be dismissed as everyday speech in professional sport conversations.

There's a difference between telling someone to "get your F'in A in the office", and calling them names. I agree that profanity is prevelant not just in sports but modern society in general. I've played sports my whole life and have heard everything, but there is a big difference between using profanity in reference to something as opposed to someone. For example, if someone misses a dunk and yells out "F*ck" it is way different then looking at another player and saying "F*ck you!". I don't know where you're from but where I come from the later will always result in some type of confrontation. The GM was trying to make him look stupid in front of his peers and he got dumped on his A**. That's what happens to normal people in the real world.

I agree with you Walt, this GM let his title get to his head. When you're talking to someone who can kick your butt you better be careful what words you choose to use. He should have walked away and released Chacon. Simple, easy, and he wouldn't have gotten beat down. Too many times little people think they can say anything to anyone and not get beat down because it's "assault". As far as I'm concerned, Chacon got verbally assaulted and defended himself physically.

Candace Parker Dunks As Sparks Top Fever ESPN.COM:Candace Parker had dunked in college, and she finally broke out the big move in the WNBA. The Sparks' star slammed one home with 33 seconds left in Los Angeles' 77-63 win over Indiana on Sunday. I love to watch this sport, but unfortunately we will have to see alot more of this if the WNBA is to survive.

posted to Basketball at 2:28 PM CDT

As a tax professional, I can tell you that the WNBA is just a tax writeoff for the NBA. They just chalk it up as a business expense to lower their taxable income.

Top of the World! Garnett has since left his losing ways behind and helped engineer the biggest turnaround in NBA history, turning the Celtics from a laughingstock to a champion. Tuesday night, it became clear that—just like losing did—winning has made Kevin Garnett completely insane.

Pitcher really don't like an ump? Have your catcher duck and hit him in the face! On a high fastball, high school catcher ducks as the ball hits ump right on the mask (youtube link).

Then some payback came for Hill, who was planning to walk on at Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga., next season. He got the word from Gordon coach Travis McClanahan, who said, Forget it, we don't want you. "I've seen catchers get crossed up before," says McClanahan. "But he appeared to be blocking a curveball in the dirt. I was shocked. I've never seen that happen. I've never heard of a player even suggesting doing that."

I seem to remember a player throwing a bat at an umpire and he's already back in the league...Kids do stupid shit and they should pay for it, by being suspended for a few games or whatever, but to take away their future is just an over-the-top reaction. He made a mistake, luckily umpires wear all that gear, so nobody was hurt. They just showed on sportscience that even if you get hit directly in the head (wearing a helmet) with a 95 mph fastball, it will not cause any concussive damage. They guys life wasn't at risk. I'm not saying by any means that the kids actions were justifiable, buy I am sure that almost everyone has done something when they were a kid that they regret now.

I flipped off a referee in a basketball game before and got 3 techs. When I look back at it now it makes me cringe to think that I took a game that seriously...

Ring it up! Celtics crush Lakers for 17th title There were legendary Celtics sitting in the stands, with names like Russell, Havlicek, Heinsohn, Maxwell, Ainge, and White, who could all tell stories about the days when they touched the NBA championship trophy, sprayed champagne on each other, and watched Red Auerbach proudly puff on a victory cigar. After a 22-year wait that included the retirement of Larry Bird, lots of lean years, and the death of Auerbach, the Celtics have new legends named Pierce, Allen, and Garnett, who now can tell their stories about touching the trophy, spraying champagne, and wishing Red were here to witness it.

posted to Basketball at 5:29 AM CDT

Wow! The Lakers picked a really bad time to have their worst game of the season. Boston picked a really good time to have their best game of the season! Congats Boston, but don't celebrate too much because the Lakers will be back next year. It was kind of silly how everyone expected the Lakers to win, considering they added Gasol in mid-season. I think he only got like 25-30 games in before the playoffs. A lot of people saw how the Lakers offense got better with him, but their defense and defensive rebounding went into the toilet. Next year with Bynum they will not be so soft.

Ray Allen got robbed of the MVP. There's no way a guy who scored 6 points in an entire game should ever win MVP in the finals. Ray-Ray was the only consistent starter for both teams...
