As much as the Browns suck, I'm sure the Lions can find a way to lose this weekend. They lost to the Rams.

Iverson may still have the talent, but I'm not sure a lot of teams are willing to deal with the baggage he brings with him. The Pistons learned that lesson the hard way last year.

I'm sure Congress deliberated for days upon days on the proper wording of the resolution to congratulate the Yankees at the expense of all other legislation. Oh and it usually takes weeks to gather and count all the votes anyways.

At least Lions fans can say, "There's no Matt Millen."
Very, very true.

I think you're overestimating the quality of the Chiefs offense. Larry Johnson hasn't done anything worthwhile fantasywise this year, I don't see why Jamaal Charles would be any different.

Take the Lions, please.
I'd never give up the Lions, not even if they were repeating last years embarrassment.

The Phillies aren't a pushover either. Winning the World Series last year and the NL pennant this year means something.

I'll bet Quinn lands in Miami.
Not after Henne's performance on Monday night.

I'm not sure it can possibly get worse than Anderson going 2 of 17. Quinn may not be anything special but one would think the Browns would give him a look next week.

The Lions gave the Steelers a run for their money, but three straight sacks at the end of the game was straight up ugly.

I didn't think Tebow did anything special last night. It was the Florida defense that propelled them to victory, Tebow made some bad throws that kept the game a lot closer than it should've been.

Just because you don't have an interest doesn't mean that someone who graduated from, say Baylor doesn't.
You hit the nail on the head.
I attend Central Michigan University. We have a good football team, but we also play in the MAC. Unless they go undefeated (which is no longer an option this year) they won't sniff a more prestigious bowl, especially not a BCS one.
That doesn't stop me from rooting them on towards a bowl game, and that certainly won't stop me from driving across the country if need be to see them play.
posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 07:32 PM on October 01
They haven't all become meaningless. I think the BCS Bowls have just as much meaning as they had before. Not interested in the other ones? I have an easy solution: don't watch.

It's a shame nobody from the Metro Detroit area got to see it on television. But from the looks of it most of the Lions games will be blacked out this season, with the exception of Thanksgiving and maybe the Steelers.
Of course if they start to win...

It's about time. I had a good feeling about this game and I'm glad I wasn't wrong. Of course, it would have been classic Lions to blow the game in that last minute. They definitely came close.
That said, they definitely still will be amongst the league's worst this year.

Unfortunately, I'm about three hours from Ford Field so I can't go to the games regularly. I'd have to ask him.
On the bright side, when games are blacked out I can still watch them since I'm outside the blackout radius.

During the Dolphins final drive one of the announcers commented that it was the slowest two minute drill he had ever seen. I agree entirely. The clock management was pitiful.

I think the size of the market matters. Detroit sucks, has for a long time. Yet for their home opener I believe they still sold out so the game wasn't blacked out.
In fact, it wasn't until Detroit stopped winning games period that the games stopped selling out. The Lions haven't won in a long time, but blackouts had been few and far between until last year.

Like Joey said, the team seems to have done all it could to prevent themselves from running up the score. For many of the kids who are backups, this may be their best opportunity to get playing time the entire season. To think that they wouldn't try their best is ludicrous.

If Drew Brees isn't the best quarterback in the league right now he is pretty close, so that isn't as concerning as it could be. I'm more concerned about how Mike Bell was able to run for around 120 yards. Needless to say, the Lions defense didn't show any indication that they're better than last year.
As for the offense, Stafford and Johnson showed some big play potential, but Stafford was also extremely inconsistent and made quite a few mistakes. Hopefully these will be things that he eliminates as he gets more experience.
Bottom line is, the Lions still suck. But they should be good enough to win a couple games this year.

I've been opposed to the NFL's overtime system for a long time. I have seen numerous instances where one team has won the coin toss and scored on their first possession. The other team doesn't have a chance to even the score.
I'd love to see something like the NCAA's system where both teams get an equal chance to score. Not only would it be fairer, it would be much more exciting.

Samuelsson is all right, but he isn't worth the money Vancouver gave him. I think the Wings will be just fine replacing him, Hossa's production is the one they're going to miss.
MeatSaber the cap is expected to go down in the coming years so teams will want to leave themselves some room under the cap to account for that.
