Really sad. One of the most promising young talents that was coming up in the league.

Brad Ausmus took Anibal Sanchez out after two innings for no discernible reason. One day after taking Max Scherzer out of the game before he had reached 100 pitches. Put Joba in both times despite Joba having an awful second half of the season.

The student section immediately broke out into a FIRE BRANDON chant (Dave Brandon is the AD who has pissed off the students, the faculty, the alumni and pretty much everyone else he's physically capable of pissing off at least once in his five-year tenure). Not FIRE BRADY -- I think the students have accepted that Hoke is simply in over his head.
I sit in the front row of the student section. After the game a woman we believe to be Hoke's daughter confronted us saying that the "Fire Brady" chants were "assholeish" and that it affects him/them. We had to explain that we were chanting "Fire Brandon" and not "Fire Brady". There is no real reason to chant "Fire Brady" since he is as good as gone. With all the money Brandon brings into the university it is more likely that they might keep him.
The band also began playing in between every play in an effort to keep us from chanting.
It is extremely likely that Michigan will break its streak of over 100,000 fans in attendance this year. I'm skeptical that they will be able to fill the seats come November when it is colder and they have lost a few more games.

The Astros went around to just about every team asking for their top prospects in return for Bud Norris. Reading the leaked notes has convinced me that being a baseball GM is simply playing in the highest stakes game of fantasy baseball, complete with ludicrous trade offers.

I don't get the "Stephen Drew costs us a pick" objection: are you a contender or no? Assuming you somehow find Mike Trout with a mid-first round pick, he's years away from helping.
At this point is it worth it for Drew to accept a one year deal? He will presumably have a line of suitors come June who will offer him multiple years.

Not for nothing but Mendenhall was going to receive the veteran's minimum this year (700K) if he decided to play. Makes me wonder if he would've gotten a bigger contract would he still feel the same?
I think Mendenhall would have received more than that. There are always teams that can use running back depth and he has a proven track record. He may have fallen off since his knee injury but I think a number of teams would have shown some interest.

All four BCS games were fantastic. This year really delivered.
That said, I hate to see the Orange Bowl end without Clemson's "interception" being reviewed. I'm not sure which is sadder, the failure to take another look at what was a dubious interception at best or the announcer's contention that it was an interception because he had possession at some point while he was rolling on the ground.

Isn't McCown an alternative? He had far superior numbers than Cutler this year.
First, sample size. Second, as MeatSaber said McCown is 35 and is contemplating retirement so that he can be closer to his family in North Carolina. McCown is not a long term solution and it would have been silly for the Bears to let Cutler go in hopes that they could groom a successor for McCown.

I'm not sure what they expected. I doubt any coach would win many games starting a hodgepodge of Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, and whichever scrub they chose to put at running back.

Only having won five Super Bowls must be so hard.
I think our pain is greater than anyone else's.
I'm inclined to agree. But Lions fans don't know pain of losing a Super Bowl feels like. Then again, I imagine it is something similar to watching Sidney Crosby hoist the Stanley Cup at Joe Louis Arena.

I hate the Lions. I hate being a Lions fan. I hate that the Lions were robbed of a touchdown on a missed pass interference call. I hate that Justin Tucker nailed a 61 yard field goal to put a nail in the coffin on their season (most likely). I hate that the Lions threw picks on two third and short situations. I hate that when the Lions finally control their own destiny they once again prove to be the same old Lions.
I was one and a half years old the last time the Lions won a playoff game. I will probably have one of my own by the time they win another.

Did you see Peter King's Game 150 on MMQB recently? They pretty much do all this stuff already.
I strongly recommend reading the series if you have not already. It is a three part series and provides a great look into the preparation and mindset of NFL officials.
The Dallas defense gives up five touchdowns in one half and people are still making this about Romo. His last pick was because an inexperienced receiver cut short a route. Even the best quarterbacks throw a few picks like that.
I agree with you but Romo also deserves his fair share of blame for the last play. He audibled out of a called run play at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line is run blocking and Demarco Murray was clearly expecting a run play.
Edit: If the left tackle had known it was a pass they probably would have completed it. Beasley was open initially but Matthews had a clear path to Romo.
