Keith Hernandez rips ex-mate Gary Carter on air: Keith Hernandez ripped his former Mets teammate, Gary Carter, during yesterday's game on Ch. 11, calling him "unconscious" after Carter openly campaigned for the managerial job currently occupied by Willie Randolph.

Sounds like Gary Carter has done the opposite of what he intended. If he was interested in the Mets job, I can't see how he would get it now.

As for Gary Carter, I've been a Mets fan since I was 4 years old and Gary Carter was one of my favorite players growing up but after this incident, he lost my respect. There's just no reason for Gary to do this and if he really wanted the Mets gig, he should just wait until the job was vacant. Such a jerk off move!!

Now if Hernandez had spat on Gary Carter, that would be a whole 'nother thing. I agree that Carter is a real non-comprehender for trying to position himself for the Mets job while Randolph is still in place. Way to guarantee that you don't get the job.

I grew up with Carter as one of my favorite players but how many guys get managerial jobs in franchises like the Mets by lobbying in the press? Obviously some of those foul balls came back and connected with his noggin during his playing career. That and it was pretty classless even if it was going to work. I hope some day Carter has to apply for a job decided by Randolph.

This thread resembles an eye chart at LensCrafters. This is all the Expos fault. If they would've taken their history along to Washington and made a bronze for Carter, he'd be a happy guy. POIIIIINT, should be read as Roman Numerals. It translates, I think, to like 2,876,389.

Well, if one trusts Carter (and that is a stretch) BoKnows' link up there sort of explains the situation. Who knows what was really said. I'm not a big fan of Carter or Hernandez. That said, assuming Hernandez believed that Carter said what he said, I can understand him being pissed off at Carter. Of course, if it turns out Carter really was misquoted, then Hernandez looks like he overreacted.
