Yankee PA announcer dies: The longtime public address announcer of the New York Yankees, Bob Sheppard, dies at age 99.

Tried the link but it didn't come up. Regardless, this is sad news. The man was a classy, no-nonsense PA announcer who took his job seriously and had pride in what he did. I can only imagine how much baseball he witnessed over the years at Yankee Stadium, and all the great players he announced. I'm sure players who may have only played at Yankee Stadium one time in their careers feel honored that the same man who spoke the name of Joe DiMaggio over the Stadium P.A. system announced theirs when they stepped into the box. Rest in peace.

Sheppard was so eloquent, and so much a part of Yankee history, that Derek Jeter has it in his contract that a recording of Sheppard's voice will announce his plate appearances as long as he's a Yankee.

RIP.

Sorry, I'll check with some colleagues at work about an alternate method. Thank you for letting me know.

His recorded voice still introduces Derek Jeter at the plate, a touch the Yankees' captain requested to honor Sheppard.

Jeter has requested this for his remaining games as a Yankee. He has also requested the same thing happen during his first AB in the All-Star game this week, as a final tribute to Sheppard.

Alyssa Milano, at the All-Star Game, recorded it.
