I've been on a total slackfest on the standings tables, apologies for that, ... a week 7 table will be posted this week. But, for the moment at least, I'd this thread to discuss the point ChasFile made about the Week 17 Championship game (because, frankly, Yahoo's message interface sucks and I think the discussion is worthy of the Lockerroom). Or, at least, the women's weight-lifting team. The 105-pounder has a piece of Gortex mesh attached to her abdomen with 21 screws, and the 300-pounder sucks at lifting couches. But they are two of the best chances the U.S. has at Olympic Gold.

(For Maryland) . . . a better victory in the ACC tournament was probably never. Wha? Maryland defeats NC State 85-82, tying a tournament record by overcoming a 19 point second half deficit. It was a good game, but I'm surprised it broke a record. What would you take if the over/under for greatest half time comeback in Final Four history was set at 15 points? But even those concessions weren't enough, so facing a legislative deadline to get the bill out of the Assembly this week, Goldberg promised to amend it in the Senate to ban only "redskins" because it is the "most odious of them all." The legislation is to take effect January 1, 2006. What are the odds that the NFL team will have changed names by then? What about by January 1, 2016? I think it's a long ways off, but inevitable eventually. The issue just seems more on the radar lately, and not only online among non-fans. At least one well-respected member of the 'skins family, Rick "Doc" Walker, almost exclusively uses "Burgundy and Gold" to refer to the team.

Better late than never: congratulations to jasonspaceman for winning the 2003 SpoFi Fantasy NFL League Championship.

NFL Fantasy League Week 12. - The vagabonds reign on, becoming the first team to break 1000 points, followed closely by deadskins and Boom Chakalaka. - With two regular season weeks to go, The Salad Tossers break into the final playoff spot, as one of five teams hovering around .500 fighting for 3 spots. - the show pick up their league-leading third weekly high score but are still two games under .500. It's gonna be a fun final stretch.

SpoFi Fantasy NFL Week 8.   vagabonds ride Moss and Moss to top spot, scoring nearly 10 points a game more than the number two Spacemen.   Four teams sit at 6-3 with four regular season weeks to go, while four others fight for the last two playoff spots.  [table inside]

what's going here? recent lockerroom threads with muiltple comments by the user are listed once for each comment (e.g. SpoFi Fantasy NFL Week 8). this doesn't seem to apply to older threads, at least in my case. and it doesn't apply to all users the same: see the "face like this" thread for this user versus this user.

He's been called "Mean old uncle Frank" here at SportsFilter, but I really enjoy Frank Deford's bits on NPR's Morning Edition. Today's piece was on baseball curses. I'd never heard of the "Curse of the Colonel," but Deford thinks Osaka's fate is tied into Boston's and Chicago's. So here's the good news for Red Sox fans and Yankee haters everywhere.

Yahoo Fantasy NFL Week 3 • Dusted Off and Vagabonds remain undefeated. • Top scorer, The Salad Tossers, finally get a win. • Without a Clue wasn't lying to us. • (Complete standings inside.)

I've been a fan of the NFL for decades, but fantasy football has racheted my interest in the game 1000%. I probably would still have no idea who Freddie Jones was if I hadn't spent the 2001 season cursing his lack of production. Graham Hays really captures how fantasy sports makes old fans learn new tricks.

. Perhaps you're aware of Mike & Mike's weekly award, Just Shut Up. But did you know, a counting controversy, could have propelled Mike Vanderjagt over Bud Selig? Vanderjagt actually beat down Selig, but Mike Greenberg (who himself is in a matchup against Mark Madden tomorrow) had already blown the whistle (see note below bracket). It's sort of a moot point, as Vanderjagt stood even less of a chance against the Randy Moss juggernaut than Selig. Still, people, please don't leave your chad hanging next time you vote.

our sportslinkcentral spammer (discussed here and here) is up to no good again. i received this unsolicited crap in my inbox last night:

Can someone tell me again what's wrong with rcade's original idea? The only objection I've noticed raised was potential abuse of the 'decline' button, and that can be corrected easily by only presenting to the button the 20-25 moderators. I like it because there's no callout neccessary and most folks won't know a trial member from a regular one. Also the default action is that new members graduate to full status automatically. What I see as it's primary drawback is that it seems like a fair amount of work to implement and there are probably more important items on the to do list.

Elsewhere, the Diamondbacks (seemed to) deliberately plunk Vinny Castilla to block his opportunity to hit for cycle in the Nats first ever home opener. I haven't watched a whole lot of baseball since Peter Angelos tarnished the Orioles Way. I hadn't realized how utterly lacking in class the game had become.

Chas' original comment (hope you don't mind, dude):

I think we should move the playoffs to weeks 14, 15, and 16.
In week 17, many of the studs will be benched in order to save them for the playoff or next year on all but the few teams that are still fighting for a playoff spot. Nothing is worse than a team made up of second-string week-16-waiver-wire-pickup whodats beating a team of year-long producers that are benched for rest in the week 17 championship game. It makes the championship totally illegitimate, and you have to hear about it all year, until next season happens. Trust me, I've seen it happen, and it sucks.
There is some benching in week 16, but its not nearly as extensive, as on the one hand few teams will have locked up playoff spots in week 15 and even those that did will still be playing for homefield advantage and on the other hand few coaches can get away with giving up on the season with two games left to play. You might see McGahee take over for Henry in week 16, but you probably won't see McNair or Favre or Shawn Alexander or Randy Moss on the bench in week 16, as you might in week 17 for either winning or losing reasons.
Nothing is worse than a team starting Voltek and Stecker beat a team with Warner and Green on it for the championship. It makes the whole season seem cheap, because then everybody can say, "hey, even my team was better than the one that won the championship!" The winner should be the guy who was able to put together the best team made up of the best players through savvy drafting, free agent signing, and trades, not the guy who manages to pick the best second-string whodat waiver scrubs in week 16.
Just my opinion.
Support for moving the playoffs has been voiced by catfish and mick.

YAY!!! try here and heads up email to rcade prolly wouldn't hurt either.
