This reminded me of something Simon Barnes said in the Times the other day in an article about how incredibly successful business people can be made to look like "bloody fools" when they try to run a football (soccer) club: "The heart of the problem is that businessmen are used to control by means of money and football is simply not amenable to control. You control football much as you herd cats." Regarding Protrade: do any of us really need a "valuation engine to quantify on-field performance"? I thought that was what the score was for. I'm slightly torn. I love my geeky stats, but at the same time, if you've got a talent for this kind of thing, you probably want to be doing it for real on the stock market.
Interesting link panoptican - thanks. A similar idea was floating around in my head a couple weekends ago as I lamented my inability to handicap 5 CFB games followed by 4 NFL games over the same weekend. Stupid gambling addiction. I think I'll go drink myself to sleep tonight.
