A Short History of the Baseball Played in a (Small) Coliseum With the Red Sox and Dodgers set to play three in LA, a little back-story to the field.

Old enough to remember this---all the sports casters said a
record would be broken--even the 'magic' #60 (at that time)
would fall---happened the hear the Cubs game when Walls
hit 3---everyone in the radio booth was making light of his
'pop-ups'--what bothered most was Banks hitting line-drives
that went for singles.

GREAT article---like most---I didn't know anything about this---but a great example of student/sports. I am impressed and this is saying
alot since I am not a 'big round ball' fan

one of the greatest 'love/hate' people ever in sports--I personally did not
like his 'style' but I admire VERY much how he got his kids an education
no other coach I can think of ever had a graduation rate that he had year after year
that is the essence of s student/athlete

just why is anyone acting surpried?? most of us have known for a long time that 'many' schools overlook all sorts of stuff just to win
football and basketball bring in the $$--win or get out will be around for a long, long time

The SI.com "2006 Turkeys Of The Year" have been awarded. They page in reverse order, from 13 down. A little surprised at #1.

I think I would have made #2--#1---this guy was on the
ground when it happened---and--how about that little 'fight'
down in Flordia--makes my TOP TEN

Arnold "Red" Auerbach Dead at 89. Legendary Boston Celtics' Coach, General Manager, Chairman of the Board, President, and all-around architect of some of the best teams in NBA history passed away Saturday night of an apparent heart attack. Said author John Feinstein, "I never thought he'd die." The Celtics, who announced his passing, have also dedicated the upcoming season to Auerbach.

I'm the 'old' guy who watched (on TV) Boston win all those years ago. I
still don't think another coach since then could even hold his cigar (this
should bring some remarks)

A Resigning Cub Man's Last Request "There is one rule that applies to everything. You've got to win and if you don't win, it's subject to change." -- Chicago Cubs President Andy MacPhail, who has resigned from the "ivy covered burial ground."

big $ somehow does not get the Cubs to the play-offs--it seems that after following these bums for 40 years the act is this---'come to the Cubs--and just show up'--the money will be there no matter how you preform--AND NOBODY THAT COUNTS CARES---the fans still come---(not me, will not go again til the year after they go to a world series)---its been 18 years and counting--LOL

Byron Nelson Dies The "gentleman golfer" died today at age 94 at his home in Roanoke, Texas, on Eleven Straight Lane, a street that got its name from the 11 straight tournaments he won in 1945 -- which Tiger Woods calls the best season a golfer has ever had.

College Football Rankings - Week 1 Are you ready for some college football? The polls are out. I'm very surprised that Oklahoma is still #5 after having their quarterback tossed for the season.

ND will be really good, but like I said in a previous post--that schedule is a killer. Has to be in the top 5 for 'tuff' schedules. What about the other top 10 teams?? what are their schedules like??

Maddox isn't the Cubs problem --so I wish him the best---he did not stop it so I think he sees the Cubs sink again---now get the
management out and Cubs can get going for next year---LOL--always next year----and again--why should they worry (remember I
am a fan) when they draw 3mill. fools to the park

The US Masters is upon us again. This is the 70th time the tournament has been held. It's the 10th anniversary of Norman's final round collapse, and the 20th anniversary of Nicklaus's incredible win at the age of 46. The field is invited (not open) and traditionally includes the US and British Amateur champions. Augusta is all about tradition, but all the talk prior to this year's tournament has been about the changes to the course - even Tiger has spoken out against them - but this time tomorrow, the talking will stop and we'll see who looks like becoming the next owner of a green jacket.

As an 'older' golfer---I go with Palmer and the rest who would have liked to see some shot making changes instead of just longer--a guy who ONLY hits it 300 yds now is going to go right into the middle of the bunkers--just has to be a better way

America's Favorite Player Released. The man who has given sportsblogs across America things to talk about over the course of the past few months has finally been released and is free to find another team. Even if you're oblivious to everything in the sports world, you can tell something went bad when the team announces his release in a one sentence statement.

as a 'new' old guy--i agree with most of the top 10--but---the John U colts and Starr packers beat the best of the NFL at the time---and beat them they did---the lack of TV coverage stops comparison to the 'modern' teams
