As the Apple turns... Willie Randolph is out as manager of the New York Mets, fired in the middle of the night 2 1/2 months into a disappointing season that has followed the team's colossal collapse last September. In the middle of the night? Seems pretty cold.

How 'bout dem ball-girls?! The bottom line is having the best seat at Citizens Bank Park. It was enticing to Laura Litzenberger, another of the new ballgirls. "I spoke to some of the girls who were ballgirls last year and my biggest fear is touching a fair ball; they told us to concentrate on the game," said Litzenberger, a Kutztown University graduate with a degree in elementary education.

$5 Dollar Fine for looking at his hair too long. Some funny baseball humor. "They're very strict in Double-A," said Chris Coste, Kendrick's teammate on the R-Phillies. "The problem is that it was written up and put in the kangaroo court box, but he was called up before the case could be read." The charge? "Spending 22 minutes and 39 seconds in front of the mirror doing his hair," Coste said, without a hint of a smile. "And his hair didn't change from Minute 1 to Minute 22. He really likes his hair."

The Saints come home to a heart warming party and hang out with grateful, while a little tipsy, fans of the city's historically maligned, now proud franchise. If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you dont like football. It brought a couple to mine, and I am a Philadelphia phan.

Amputee Everest summitter recants story C'mon dude, which is it? This guy sounds more and more like a foolish jerk. Although, if he continues to climb, there won't be much left of him anyway.

CFL stunned by death of a giant Ackles's death brought the Lions' complex and the CFL to a standstill Sunday as mourners dealt with shock. Though he stood barely 5 1/2 feet tall and never played professionally, Ackles was a giant of the game. He authored a storybook career with his hometown team and walked with U.S. football royalty during a sojourn to the NFL before returning to Vancouver and reviving a dormant Lions franchise earlier this decade.

A few god picks I would agree yes, but Slapshot should be on that list, Major League yup. No Water Boy? No Invincible(made by Disney, hence no cursing in a South Philly bar? C'mon yo!!) but we cannot forget the all-time classic, Debbie Does Dallas eh?(just for shits and giggles at least) What about Any Given Sunday or even the Last Boy Scout?
An Instant Classic "A rivalry between the league's two most storied franchises -- with some of the game's biggest names and biggest moments -- now has its biggest rally. No team had ever overcome more than a 15-point deficit after the first quarter, and Elias Sports Bureau said it was the biggest comeback in the finals since 1971. One thing's for sure, it will forever be remembered in the annals of Celtics-Lakers lore."

Mets' Wagner calls out teammates for ducking media Outspoken Mets closer Billy Wagner lashed out at truculent teammates Thursday for dodging reporters and ducking "being accountable" by failing to talk to the media. Wagner, who ripped his teammates earlier this season, caused the flap on Thursday when he questioned some players' failure to make themselves available to the media after the team's deflating 1-0 loss to Washington.

While I wish no ill-will on any baseball team, as a born and bred Phillies phan I can only look on with glee at the Mets misfortunes. That and taking a couple from the Braves.
Seems like Wagner has a big mouth but he does speak the truth. And bring the heat. Enter Sandman.

Pink Balls used for the first time in cricket. A trial to see if a single type of ball is suitable for all forms of the game.

I have no problem with pink balls. I bought my mother a pink mother's day Louisville Slugger last year. I have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to Cricket rules. Wish I did actually.
Whats' next? Pink pucks for the NHL? Pink soccer balls for the World Cup? Perhaps pink footballs for the NFL?
Perfect? Despite Super Bowl loss, 18-1 football team wants "19-0" trademarks

You have got to be kidding. Just goes to show that Belichick's and the Patriot's arrogance knows no bounds. It was with great glee seeing these kids running around in the Pat's 19-0 shirts( I don't know how to make the link look like regular words) http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/15224640/detail.html
So does that mean they are gonna try and charge the little poor Nicaraguan kids for the privilege of wearing these shirts?

Man, I could have people confused almost every day of the week being a Phillies, Flyers, Eagles and 76ers phan!!

Tejada tells team he’s 33, instead of 31. Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada told the team he’s actually 33, two years older than he’s listed in the club’s media guide and other baseball records after being shown a copy of his birth certificate by ESPN.
posted to Baseball at 10:44 PM CDT
I was there for the Phillies-Astros game and my Phil's kicked their ass. Tejada looked about 12 years old (just glad we won 10-2). That said, that is bullshit!! Ask Danny Amonte about lying about birth certificates.

They should institute a 10 run mercy rule like they had in my little league days. And get a pitcher not a belly-itcher. Maybe also some batters and not turkey platters.
Basketball team resists Saudi restrictions on female athletes. These Saudi women are going to play basketball, by gum, and there's nothing you can do about it. Zahed, who prays regularly and wears a head scarf even when outside Saudi Arabia, said that nothing in Islam bans women from sports. "Our society just has to get used to it," she said. "It's not yet normal for them to see women playing sports. But times are changing, and they have to start accepting it." (There's even a video of them playing.)[via]
