Yankees pull off a "Bronx" Buster The New York Yankees, clearly in need of another starting pitcher and outfielder, struck an agreement with the Phillies today that Sent Bobby Abreu and Corey Lidle to the Yanks- more contract details inside.

Braves Beef up Bullpen with Baez The Atlanta Braves, who recently aquired veteran Bob Wickman from Cleveland, aquired another reliever to strengthen their bullpen. Does the addition of Baez make the Braves favorites to win the wildcard?

Best... and worst buys in Baseball I'm sure there will be some controversy about this list... any thoughts about the worst buy in baseball?

The Battle for Abreu continues, with both New York teams pursuing him. Thw White Sox are looking to add a setup man, while the Phillies are looking to unload everyone. An interesting bunch of scenerios inside.

Lebron agrees to an $80 million dollar extension Great news for the Cavs. They have LeBron locked up for a while... but are they really contenders?

Eddie Johnson is not a child molester. The other Eddie Johnson is.

Battle of the Titans It's kind of like those good old days playing backyard football.

Until White proves he can be the next Eddie George, I dont think he has any place spitting on anyone. But.... I would like to see him spit on Keith Bullock- he would get his ass kicked.
Michael Young, best SS in the majors? Jeter and Tejada get more ink, but Young has at least as much respect among his peers. Plus, he's a 'good guy'. Opinions?
posted to Baseball at 9:18 AM CDT
Young is good, but certainly not the best. If you wnat to talk about the "nice guy" factor, then Jeter has him beat there too- as he donates time and money to numerous good causes. Untill Young wins a championship, or even plays well in the playoffs, I dont think that he can be coined the "best".

So....what does this prove, if anything?
How long, on average, is a baseball actually in play during a ballgame?
posted to Baseball at 11:25 AM CDT
Most people who see baseball as boring dont understand it. The average fan wouldnt pay attention to the signs, shifts, etc. that actually take up most of the time.
Cheaters Anyone missing from this Most Unwanted List?
posted to General at 5:28 PM CDT
Calling Jordan a cheater makes me sick. He had some tricky moves, but to coin him as a cheater is a bit much. Secondly, Reggie Bush shouldnt be on the list either. Bush donates money to all of the Katrina relief funds, and forces his sponsors to donate millions to New Orleans. Bush didn't really do anything that dosent happen routinely with the push, but thats just my opinion.

Yerfatma- your right. I just thought that would give you a better judgement of his character. But about the "pushing" thing, I dont consider it list worthy, do you?
Auker loved to play, talk baseball
Q: Do you think baseball turned its head on steroid usage?
A: "Sure. Bud Selig is nothing but a puppet for the owners. Bonds has been a real meal ticket for the Giants' owner. As long as Selig is commissioner, Bonds will never get kicked out of baseball. Selig only came up with his silly steroid policy after pressure and the hearings in Washington."
Rest In Peace, Eldin.

College Football Rankings - Week 1 Are you ready for some college football? The polls are out. I'm very surprised that Oklahoma is still #5 after having their quarterback tossed for the season.

Notre Dame is good- I love their QB, and seem to be the team to beat. But, we all must realize that the games haven't even begun, so lots of things can change. eg: Brett Romar
At 30, Tiger becomes youngest to 50 PGA wins Unreal accomplishment. What makes it even more amazing is the fact he did it in 3 less years than Jack did it. It is mind boggling to think that Tiger has 50 wins in 196 tournaments (25.5%).

I don't really care for Madden, but his speech gave me goosebumps. Awesome.
Yeah, his speech was the best of them all. Especially at the end when he said that this is "The greatest ride of all". I guess all the commentary he's done made him a good public talker.
NFL Refs change uniforms. And it isn't necessarily a good thing. (First link has links to video of presentation of new unis.)
posted to Football at 9:29 AM CDT
Perhaps, an incentive could be offered for better officiating. Along with the new uniforms, comes a new rule. Whenever a ref makes a bad call, which will be judged by a panel of average veiwers, that ref removes one peice of clothing. The incentive therefore, if you make good calls, you will not be naked in front of the veiwing public.
You would actually want ot see those guys naked? Most of them are ready for AARP.

Most influential players in NBA History NBA analyst Charley Rosen provides a fairly comprehensive if not obvious list of players who had the most impact on the game itself. Who's missing?

Wow, what a situation to be in. Somehow I dont think that Charles Barkley will clear the situation though....
