Wily Mo Pena traded to BoSox for Bronson Arroyo, Cash Reds finally make a deal to improve their pitching. Wily Mo should platoon well with Nixon in RF.

Sox ship Renteria to Braves The Edgar-era is over in Boston. In exchange, Boston gets 3B prospect Marte. Unless Youkilis moves over to 1B it looks like he won't be in Boston much longer.

"He should be a team player 100 per cent." A junior hockey player has been ousted from the Saint John Sea Dogs after he did not sign a Canadian flag that the team was sending to troops in Afghanistan.

According to AP, Mastsuzaka took off in John Henry's jet this morning headed to Boston. Signs they have reached an agreement? Sounds like it.
Yanks talk with Tigers about Sheffield Gary Sheffield has resumed his campaign to interfere with the Yankees' plans to trade him, but it's not going to work. In fact, there were indications yesterday the Yankees had made progress toward sending Sheffield to the Detroit Tigers.

One worry about Humberto Sanchez is his durability. In his relatively young minor league career he has already had extended injuries (elbow, oblique, groin). But even so, he does become one of the Yankees top prospects immediately.
Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer In his first start since learning the knuckleball from Charlie Hough to extend his career, Texas Rangers pitcher R.A. Dickey served up six home runs to the Detroit Tigers. The only pitcher to give up more: Charlie Sweeney of the St. Louis Maroons, who gave up seven to the Detroit Wolverines on June 12, 1886.

RA be out of the Ranger rotation in a week or two and replaced by Robinson Tejeda.
Japan wins World Baseball Classic While half of America slept, and the other half blissfully ignored the event, Japan defeated Cuba, 10-6, in the title game of the inaugural World Baseball Classic. Well, maybe not classic, but not bad, and no one refused to play left field. Japan's Matsuzaka took MVP as Sadaharu Oh, the most legendary and storied player in the history of Japanese baseball, added to his legacy.

Doesn't fit in with the whole "Money Ball" approach, but they now do have someone to fill in for Nixon during the inevitable DL stints.
I think I would have liked to see the Sox deal Clement though.
The Boss has a heart! Arkansas kid was saving up to go to a Yankees game, but instead gave the money up to keep his school open. Steinbrenner heard about it and...

I still hate George, but yes he does have a heart. I think he is a regularly calls in on the WEEI Jimmy Fund drive each year and makes a nice donation.
The next Derrek Lee? Michael Young? David Wright? Who will be the next baseball player to make the jump to superstar status?

Does anybody know the details of the trade. Did the sox have to pick up part of Renteria's contract?
ESPN is reporting the Sox are paying 8 Million of the remaining contract and also the 3 Million buyout if the Braves do not pick up the option at the end of the contract.

We should have predicted this happening. Congress succeeds in forcing MLB to adopt a stricter drug testing program and now they will look at butting into the NFL's dirty laundry.
CommonCensus Sports Map Project produces "maps that show exactly where the fans for each team are located, based on the geographic votes of Internet users," including NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and NCAA Football.

This place was alive, and so are the Yankees Final yankees/boston series could decide it all. If New York can just get by those nasty rays.

Anyone else notice the lack of "fire" in the weekend series? Yes, the rivalry is still there but it no longer feels like the biggest rivalry is sports (as FOX loved to point out ALL last season and post-season). No more "1918" chants, no "who's your daddy?" chants, no pictures of the Babe on signs across Yankee Stadium. After the choke last season and Yankees fighting for a playoff spot this season it's a lot more tame in the Stadium.
I'm not complaining, though... it was still some damn good baseball to watch.
OJ unplugged by 18 year old. Here’s an interesting print and video interview of OJ. What’s interesting about it is not OJ’s answers so much as it is the interviewer, Graham Bensinger who is host of "The Graham Bensinger Show" on 1380 ESPN in St. Louis and Sportsradio 620. He’s only 18 years old! Hell, he’s not even old enough to drink!

Definitely seems to be more to this story that is being left out.
But, if it's in his job description/contract that he must represent the team and participate in public service/signing events then I would think it's in the rights of the team to terminate him for not signing the flag. Whether or not it's a political statement being made, he still can be fired for not doing his job.
