Astros' Shawn Chacon Suspended After Fight with GM Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon has been suspended after a physical altercation with general manager Ed Wade in the team's dining room. "He started yelling and cussing," said Chacon, recently demoted to the bullpen. "... I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him because at that point I wanted to beat his [butt]." Team owner Drayton McLane said Chacon will never pitch for the team again: "You can't defy authority."

I am an avid Astro's fan, but the bottom line is they are stinking it up pretty bad right now... I'm sure there are a lot of guys who want to explode right now... The tension is so thick you can cut it with a knife... And thats from the top down... The expectations are in the crapper... I don't think Cooper is the guy for them and over all it isn't a good situation for anybody... Other than Burkman, the players are not performing... The leadoff spot is a revolving door... You have to stick with someone and let them work through it...

Both those guys were wrong... Unfortunately, Chacon is the one that will pay the heavy price...

Mets' Wagner calls out teammates for ducking media Outspoken Mets closer Billy Wagner lashed out at truculent teammates Thursday for dodging reporters and ducking "being accountable" by failing to talk to the media. Wagner, who ripped his teammates earlier this season, caused the flap on Thursday when he questioned some players' failure to make themselves available to the media after the team's deflating 1-0 loss to Washington.

Sounds like some guys need to take the bad with the good and they aren't. I have always liked Billy Wagner. I followed him with the Astros. If guys aren't stepping up when it is brought up internally, then throw them under the bus... You big money making guys that think you are above everyone. And then to try to make it a racist thing because it is some latin players... When are we going to give that crap a rest. We will never get rid of racism because to many people want to pull that card for any B.S. reason... Its all going into the crapper folks...

A dazzling Manny being Manny moment I saw this on ESPN this morning and burst out laughing as soon as I saw the high-five. There are few players who could get away with doing something like that.

What a kid... A lot of people don't understand the guy, but he is out there having a blast playing a game... Yes they are high paid guys, but he plays it as a game and has fun... Way to go Manny... Thanks for showing people that it is a game....

Pacman gives Dallas Cowboys a dual threat: This is what Pacman Jones can bring to the Dallas Cowboys on the field if he plays in 2008: A playmaker on defense as a cornerback and on special teams.

posted to Football at 12:11 PM CDT

I would be willing to bet that Jerry Jones will cover his tail in a contract with PacMan... He will put in there that he will owe him nothing if he gets in trouble with the law and gets booted by the league (that is if he gets back in).

It is a shame to read all the news about college and pro players getting in trouble... It appears that college and pro players have too much time and money on their hands or think they are above the law... It makes you wonder who raised these guys... The sad thing that is happening now is parents raising their kids to play sports first and get an education second... Thats what big money brings...

Does speed kill? A thorough analysis of PitchFx data reveals some interesting things about fastball speed.

That was some interesting reading... Just goes to show that if you aren't throwing 97+ then it is all about location and movement...

School team hit for 66 runs in two innings Opponents Shunshukan were officially credited with a 9-0 victory, giving the scoreline a tinge of respectability for the luckless Kawamoto school.

What makes me wonder is if your kid is getting shelled, don't most coaches make a pitching change... duh... Do something to shake things up... And 250 pitches, what the hell... Thats enough to know why the team isn't doing anything... The coach is clueless...

"Greg Maddux? I bet you could catch him with your eyes closed." What you are about to read is a story about grown men who should know better. It is included here as a means of illustrating the legend of one man and his unique place in baseball history. It should not be construed as an endorsement of the activity described, although we must admit it makes for a pretty cool story.

What a great article. Maddux is a class act... He used to drive me crazy when he played for the Braves because I am a diehard Astros fan... It was great to read about the things he knows regarding the game... I hope he leaves when he is ready and doesn't regret it...

Rushin' to the Olympics: Former Silver Stars guard Becky Hammons becomes a naturalized Russian citizen in order to compete in the 2008 Olympic games.

posted to Olympics at 11:12 AM CDT

It's funny to hear everyone complain about what she is doing. Why doesn't anyone talk about the other WNBA players playing for other countries during the off-season... Oh that's right, they aren't playing against the US. Have our egos gotten so big that we banish anyone for going against us (in a sport)... Her only dream is to play in the Olympics and our country didn't offer until she started working toward playing for someone else (typical of society)... We have a lot of other problems in this country than to worry about that... If we are the elite, then what is anyone worried about. The Russian team only has 1 American. Should that be an issue for us... What about the NBA players that have been here for years that go back and play for their countries. Yes, they may be from that country, but then again, is there that much difference. They don't have problems coming here to take the great American dollar...

Kansas Wins National Title... ....although to read the article you would think that Memphis had it gift wrapped.

posted to Basketball at 12:04 AM CDT

Congrats to Kansas... Keep it in the Big 12... I think Calipari got a little lost in the moment and didn't think about calling a time-out to set his defense for the final 10 seconds... Foul Kansas and it puts them on the line and it makes them think about bricking the second free throw to try and get the ball for a 2 pointer... Admitted, it was a tough contested shot that went in for the 3... Have to say with 2.1 left, another time-out should have been called (Memphis had 2 to use) and setup a play... Thats plenty of time to get people where you want them... Lesson learned... Kansas never gave up... They deserve it because of that...

Improv Everywhere makes the kids' day. For one day, two Little League teams got to experience the big leagues; complete with shirtless fans, NBC's Jim Gray calling the game, a jumbotron and the Goodyear blimp.

This has to be one of the most ausome things done. Can you imagine how those kids will feel for years about this. You know they will each get a copy of everything done... These kids were floating on air that day... Great job...

NASCAR Rookie Survives Unbelievable Crash NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie Michael McDowell tested the new safety features in the Car of Tomorrow yesterday during qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway, slamming into a Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) barrier at more than 100 mph and rolling eight times (see the video). Indiana set to hire Crean as hoops coach Indiana University will hire Marquette's Tom Crean as its basketball coach and is expected to introduce him at a news conference Wednesday. The hiring comes near the end of a tumultuous six-week period in which former Hoosiers coach Kelvin Sampson resigned amid an NCAA scandal, interim coach Dan Dakich replaced him and then lost four of seven games. Is Indiana on the road to recovery?

posted to Basketball at 2:09 AM CDT

I wish him luck... Maybe it is better that he doesn't have returning starters... Lets him start early to rebuild and not have to deal with players that are set in their ways from the old coach... Sampson, not sure about that guy... Getting caught makes you wonder about his past jobs... Dang, when is this sport thing going to change... Its all about the $$$ now... People are raising their kids to concentrate on sports and not the books... Wanting the quick riches...

Jason Taylor's moves not moving the NFL Jason Taylor and his "Dancing With The Stars" partner continued receiving high marks on the show Monday, while his other would-be partner – the NFL’s massive public relations and marketing machine – tripped over its two left feet.

posted to Football at 1:33 PM CDT

I thought it was interesting how Emmit and Jerry handled the show. To see a big guy like Taylor tells you how flexible these guys are. They are big athletes that can move. The fact that they are in a violent game doesn't always show how well they can move. I have to agree that maybe Taylor should be getting ready to help a team get back on the winning track may have needed to be at the top of the list, but then again, maybe he thought he wouldn't be around long... Should the NFL cover some of this, yes they should. It would lighten up all the other crap you read about these days about football players. The college ranks are getting to be a discrace to the game with the number of players you read about every day that get in serious trouble, pissing away the scholorships... Thats the future of the NFL if it keeps up... Scarry....

UK mourns 'Mr. Wildcat' Bill Keightley Bill Keightley, the longtime equipment manager for the University of Kentucky men's basketball team -- known throughout the college basketball world as "Mr. Wildcat" -- died last night in Cincinnati. He was 81.

Hey Drood, the fact that UK was used was not a shot at you and the other UK. This is about a man that was dedicated to a school and a job for many years that passed away... He needs to be respected and remembered for that... Mr. Keightley, I'm sure you will be remembered for years... They should retire jersey number 81 with Mr. Wildcat on the back...

Btw drood, if you are so proud of the United Kingdom, then HA... Thats what us southerners use for "Haul Ass"

'Jaws' Author's Widow Opposes Shark-Fishing Tournament The widow of Jaws novelist Peter Benchley has spoken out against a sport her husband helped popularize with his portrayal of the dead-eyed eating machine that destroyed 1975's tourist season in Amity Island. "Shark-fishing tournaments add to the depletion of sharks," said Wendy Benchley, speaking out against the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament that had 1,250 entrants last year and in 2006 hooked 2,500 sharks and killed 46, according to the Humane Society. "Peter often said he would never write 'Jaws' now," Wendy said.

Interesting.... That movie made a lot of people nervous about going into the water for a few years and started the sport of shark fishing... I guess if the sharks can be used for something after they are caught, it is no different than killing beef for meat and other things. Honestly, 46 sharks last year... Is that really a big deal? Hmmmm...
