This weeks's NFL games will make terrific theater. From Romo's romp in Cabo with Jessica, to the perfect Patriots. This weekend should deliver excellent football, and if Dallas loses, plenty of tabloid commentary on Monday.

Tony Kornheiser Hates Sportsfilter If a huge dumpster landed on their mother's house, and got all the way into the basement and crushed them, nobody would care. Nobody would miss them. They provide nothing good, no service that's any good at all.

Arsenal's Eduardo Da Silva injured in outrageous tackle, possibly ending his career. A truly horrific injury, broken pieces of bone were sticking out of his sock as he was stretchered of the field. This is the sort of injury that you never truly recover from (See Alex Smith). I hope the FA bans Martin Taylor for life.

Overpaying a player once is OK, as long as you learn from it. Going into the 2008 season, 124 baseball players hold contracts with an annual salary of $8 million or more. Getting a contract of that value generally means a player has shown his worth with great performances or long-term durability. Teams, however, sometimes overpay for past performance.

Agree with most of the article, however equating injuries into the formula seems unfair. Can't perform if sidelined. I'd liked to see the formula based on healthy players after signing big contracts. Didn't read for all the players, but the vast majority seemed to be suffering some malady.
Blackhawks to play in the Friendly Confines? The Chicago Blackhawks are gunning for an outdoor game and it looks as if they want to play it at Wrigley Field. [via]

If they can pull it off. They will sell a boatload of tickets to Blues fans. Not so much to view outside match, but to boo the hated Blackhawks. I'm on board if it comes about. I never actually see a outside pro hockey game.

If it comes about, maybe the guys from St. Louis could go together- seeing how gas prices are. I know alot of people in Chicago to get us tickets. Franchise for my business is headquartered in Naperville.

Nakeman, I'll bet with just the fans that the two of us know we could charter a bus. ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!
Probably right. We'll look into it if the game comes about and hopefully the Blues will play.
Floyd Irons paid so they could play. An interesting article about one of the most successful big-school basketball coaches in Missouri state history. Note: For those not familiar with the region, the city of Alton (mentioned in the article), is in Illinois. Google map here.

Mr. Irons doesn't care about students -- only athletes that can promote his agenda, which is him.
I don't know Mr. Irons motives for what he did, and frankly niether do you. Perhaps it's a little bit of both. Maybe he though he was trying to help the kids and himself, however he should be punished for breaking the rules and possibly ruining the careers of the players.
Belichick and Pioli speak out. A Boston Globe report on Walsh's videos and his firing. Also Belichick speaks about why he taped other teams and it's prority in his preparation.

Do you really all feel so outraged because you think it's morally wrong and disrespectful to the game?
No, I didn't care when Belichick got caught in the Jets game because I'll leave that for the Jet fans to debate. However, when it affects my personal business I feel pissed and want my pound of flesh. I want it investigated and if true, Belichick punished for his misdeeds.

I liked to look past the allegations for a minute and propose what Walsh is saying is gospel. What are the consequences going to be from fans and other teams. Lawsuits are coming out of the woodwork over this mess. Fans are demanding money returned, players are sueing and I hate to see what the television networks are going to do at a later date. This could seriously hurt the NFL and possibly bankrupt the Patriots, if complicity is proven.
This kettle of fish is going to smell to high heaven if somebody doesn't admit responsibility (including the commissioner for not telling the public about previous taping) and apologize for this mess, and I mean straight away. Think the public will forgive and forget, if they are not lied to and treated like idiots. See many dark clouds down the road for pro football if someone doesn't come forward pretty soon.

cheating: to deprive of something valuable by the use of deceit or fraud
2: to influence or lead by deceit, trick, or artifice.
Does the article have to say cheating for your confirmation llb? What would your word be to assess Belichick behavior? Misguided, not informed .......

To me the bigger issue was video taping of the walkthru prior to the Rams SB.
Geez, if this is true I'm going to be one pissed off SOB. I lost 500 hundred dollars on that game.

I wanna know how a Belichick can tape other teams offensive, defensive plays; not know it's illegal and still be called a genius. Genius, my ass. That prick owes me 500 bucks.

Congratulations to them but winning 3 SB's by a total of 9 points is a real stretch not a dynasty. It's time to move on......
Move on if you want. Suppose you lost some money on a bet and found out later, some alledged cheating was uncovered. Maybe you wouldn't be so dammed anxious to forget Belichick indescretion. I'm of the opinion if these allegations are true there be a substancial penalty involved and jail time because this is fraud.

Gambling is also illegal, in MOST places and can carry jail time
So what! Gambling is illegal only if government doesn't get their share. We in St. Louis have plenty of casinos that are LEGAL here. As far as betting on football games, and getting cheated because of impropriated by one coach, doesn't diminish the fact the better was wronged. And you can bet, (pun intended) if it was the 60's and the mob lost alot of money due to the cheating. Belichick would be sleeping with the fishes.
The only reason we are hearing about it now is because of this overzealous senator.
The reason for the renewal of shit is beacause it no longer a isolated incident. The jerk (Belichick) has been doing illegal taping for approx. 8 years and why didn't football commissioner tell the public from the beginning it was going on this long. To cover it up, that's why, and there's no way the commisioner is going to lie to a United States Senator and be found out later and face some serious problems down the road.

If this is proven then Bellicheat should be banned from football for life. Then they should tape a hundred dollar bill to his forehead and leave him at the E. St. Louis Metro Link station at 3 a.m..

I second that opinion.
I wrote something in the locker room because my opinions on this subject are, and probably will be, deleted.
