Accept the cash...just don't deliver It is ok for Nigerian football referee's to accept bribes, it isn't ok for them to actually execute the bribe. Hmmm, is that good advice?

Reds show true color... We seem to have so many negative things to discuss. Here is another positive story of athletes, people really, showing up and helping out in a time of need.

MLB Demands Toothpaste Be Put Back in Tubes, Andy Griffith Re-runs* in the ongoing internal battle of "Do we get it or do we not", MLB declares using a Slingbox to watch out-of-market baseball games is a crime. Even if you like the team and y'know, pay for the channel and stuff.

But only at home, and only on the lower-tier channels. If God meant for us to watch TV on 3 digit channels, he'd have given us all a mythical device like, say, a CableCard that worked.

Just to clarify, if I live in Dallas, I do not get Twins games, and I can not get them on Sling either. The Sling only forwards my home signal to me over a broadband connection. So, if I'm on the road, it forwards my Dallas connection to me...same crappy Ranger games.

Install one at your Mom's (or someone you know) house in Minneapolis...then you can get the local games in Dallas or wherever.

And no...not even that is illegal.

What TV station...or advertiser wouldn't want more people watching?

Zidane to bite Big Apple? Will Zizou follow Becks on the money trail by joining the New York Red Bulls?

posted to Soccer at 7:37 PM CDT

Why would Zidane playing in the MLS be bad for the league? MLS needs exposure and 'stars' so some real money starts coming into the league.

If MLS hopes to be anything more than a minor league or even a 'retirement castle' as Weedy describes it this they need to do something because that league might as well not exist at this point. Like it or not bringing in Becks and Zidane puts the league in the news. None of the current players are doing that.

Now...remember NASL? I used to love going to see the San Diego Sockers when I was a kid. Remember how dominate the Sockers were in the MISL of the '80's? Sure you don't! Of course...bringing in Pele didn't save that league...nor did turning into an indoor league.

Get a satelite and watch the Euros...that is where the action is.

Abolish the NCAA

posted to Other at 7:26 AM CDT

Just to add to the rediculousness of the Ray Ray McElrathbey story, his little brother may not even recieve rides to and from his school with coaches wives (whose kids attend the same school) because that qualifies as an 'extra benefit' for Ray Ray.

The NCAA is a mess.

Different Strokes for Different Folks Tiger Woods called himself a "spaz" after his poor putting in the final round of The Masters Sunday, a word that's playing very badly outside the U.S. He's been condemned by the Australian Spastic Centre, paralympian Tanni Grey Thompson and the British charity Scope, whose spokesperson said, "Although in the U.S. the term 'spaz' may not be as offensive as in the U.K., many people will have taken exception to linking a poor golf stroke to a spastic."

Isn't the media supposed to report the whole story objectively?

I fell out of my chair laughing at this one. The media stopped reporting objectively a long time ago. Every story is slanted these days.

Says you...

Indeed.

I realized right after I posted that someone would jump on my sweeping generalization of journalists. The sad fact is that 'newsertainment' has broken my trust in the media. I read every story with a pile of salt these days.

Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer, Homer In his first start since learning the knuckleball from Charlie Hough to extend his career, Texas Rangers pitcher R.A. Dickey served up six home runs to the Detroit Tigers. The only pitcher to give up more: Charlie Sweeney of the St. Louis Maroons, who gave up seven to the Detroit Wolverines on June 12, 1886.

"I think baseball has to recapture the moral high ground."-Vincent

With all due respect Mr. Vincent, there is not moral high ground to recapture. MLB looked the other way...investigate the league as well as the players. Everyone involved in baseball during the late 90's is complicit in the steroid scandal.

Goodbye Paul. One of the men that have made huge contributions to the NFL is now retiring. Paul Tagliabue, commissioner of the NFL is retiring after negotiating a very tough labor deal. The NFL will miss the leadership of the man who has overseen a massive stadium rebuilding plan that has replaced over two-thirds of the 32 teams stadiums.

Way to leave on top, Paul. Let's hope the next guy can keep it going.

Leiter calls it quits One of baseball's best big game pitchers, an enthusiatic competitor, and one of the game's really good guys is moving on.

posted to Baseball at 7:09 AM CDT

I don't know if I would classify Leiter as an all time big game pitcher. He had his moments to be sure but I think the real 'Leiter Lesson' is that if you can throw 80+mile an hour strikes left handed you can play for a long time and make big bucks.

T.O. in Big D Terrell Owens has reached an agreement in principle to join the Dallas Cowboys. The signing comes six years after he showed contempt for the franchise by spiking two touchdowns on the star at the midfield of Texas Stadium, the second of which resulted in George Teague drawing the most beloved unsportsmanlike conduct foul in Cowboys history.

Bill Parcells won't take any bullshit from nobody.

You would think that he is on the short list of coaches that can control TO. But remember, TO wanted to play in Philly and he wanted to play with Donovan. You think he gave Garcia and MacNabb a hard time? Bledsoe is going to take a verbal beating from TO by week 4. Downhill from there.
