Wow, this brings back some memories. I spent a semester in Swansea in the fall of 2001 and went to several games. At that time, they were playing in a dilapidated stadium and struggling to stay in Division 3 (if memory serves). Can't believe they've worked their way up to the Premier League.

Darn. The Mountain West could have a been quite a force with newly added Boise State had TCU, Utah and BYU stayed put.

This has to add further to the call for a playoff system. Why shouldn't Boise have a shot to prove they're the top team in the nation, on the field? Let's also not forget the last time a team from a non-BCS conference played in a BCS bowl, was Utah two years ago. That Utah team absolutely destroyed their BCS opponent, and I would argue could have beaten anyone in the nation. But again, why shouldn't they have had a chance to prove it on the field?

JJ, a quote from the article mentions why the third place swimmer, Josh Krogh, wasn't given the spot: Josh Krogh placed third in the 400 but did not make the team because he was not first or second in any event. I don't fully understand it, but apparently it was something they looked at and were able to justify away. Another article I saw somewhere said that Krogh wouldn't have taken the spot even if selected; he would have also allowed Thorpe to take his spot.

As someone who has seen Majerus coach several times, this is a bummer. He's a guy who has dedicated everything to basketball, and it looks like that has taken a toll on his health.

I've got a question for some knowledgable British soccer fan. Last year I spent a semester in Swansea, and followed the Swans. It seems that this year they are in some serious danger of being relegated. However, being that they are in the the 3rd division already, where do they go from there? Do they just cease to exist or what? And do teams get promoted into the 3rd division, and where do they come from?
