Shame they didn't do the experiment in reverse too.

The concession stands sold both bottled water and bottled beer, however the staff had to take the bottle caps off for you, presumably so you wouldn't have a heavy object to throw.... I'm assuming these are plastic bottles? Now don't quote me on this but I have been told that the reasoning behind removing the caps is that empty bottles dumped in the aisles with their caps on represent a hazard. A bottle without it's cap will crush easily under your foot but one with it's cap on won't. Could be bullshit but that's what I was told by a steward at a Premiership football game.

I saw this story on BBC Breakfast whilst half asleep this morning and I must admit it did seem a little strange that established teams like Widnes and Wakefield had been overlooked in favour of two teams I'd never even heard of. But then I suppose I don't follow rugby league that closely. However despite my relative lack of interest in the eggchasing I second the suggestion of a rugby category as it's a perfectly cromulent sport whatever the code.

I don't even really know who this bloke is but he's clearly not very popular on SpoFi. However, he did the right thing for which he deserves credit.

I'm sure Barca will be chuffed that Henry's agreed to play. Not that I have the faintest idea what a pick-up game is.

Good game. I don't really understand all the Terry hatred. He took a penalty, lost his footing, hit the post and because of Anelka's miss was upset that he'd contributed to his team losing the final. That's about all there is to it really.

Live on Sky Sports 1. What do you mean what's Sky Sports 1? My lot are struggling to avoid the drop. Even a win might not be enough. Looks like we're on our way back down to the Fizzypop League again. No one to blame but ourselves though.

It's difficult to dislike a player who has contributed so much to my Fantasy Football team over the past few seasons, but somehow I still do. Less so than before as he tends to cheat less nowadays though he can still be a dirty, diving cheat as he ably demonstrated during the Barca match. Stay on yer feet son and try to pass the ball occasionally rather than either throwing yourself to the floor or trying some ludicrous effort on goal. You'd be a lot more popular.

Nations sponsored by Speedo, then, are gaining an unfair advantage, some charge. American swimmers will be wearing Speedo. Same old septics. Always cheating. ;-)

Good article. I watch a lot of La Liga and I'm always pulling for Athletic to do well due to their basque only policy. Aren't they in 10th now? That's hardly relegation threatened.

Squealy, if you mouse over your team's name in the list on the side, it will hilight their line in the charts. Cheers bender but it was the tables underneath I was talking about. Doesn't matter now anyway as the site owner is going to fix it - thanks Ken. All hail the power of SpoFi.

I find it hard to believe there'd be enough of a crowd to make a discernible noise at a game between Blackpool Reserves and Burnley Reserves, though I suppose it is a local derby. The story was obviously big news in Blackpool though if Bo's link is anything to go by.
posted by squealy at 10:47 AM on March 11
Apparently Birmingham City have no chance of winning the Premiership this season. I'm heartbroken. Good site though. One slight grumble is that it's difficult to follow the teams' data line across the tables, which could easily be fixed by shading or adding gridlines.

What you don't know is that the infamously lunatic thug Martin Taylor was lurking by his hospital bed threatening to break his other leg if he didn't say that.

This would be the notoriously vicious central defender Martin Taylor who in a ten year professional career has been booked a grand total of six times? Yeah ban him for life the thug. Sheesh.

Do exhibition matches in foreign countries get TV coverage? They can do over here in England yes. Particularly if they're part of a mini-tournament like for instance the annual Amsterdam one. Normally the summer football tours of the bigger English clubs will get a showing too. The whole idea of this 39th game abroad is bizarre. I can't believe that it even got to the drawing board let alone beyond it.

The final nail in the coffin of "the people's game". Top five clubs seeded? Fabulous, unless you have to play Man Utd or Arsenal three times in a season when your relegation rival gets to play three games against one of the lesser teams.

How do I get involved in Pittsburgh, Pa, USA? First step is to go to http://members.myfootballclub.co.uk/register and sign up. Then I guess you just follow the steps through. And from the FAQ: “I love English football, but I do not live in England. Can I still join?” Absolutely. Overseas members are positively encouraged. This will also help the club’s scouting network.

Well they certainly have more chance than Austria, not that that means they have any chance at all. Still, fair play to Scotland they've been very impressive in their qualifying campaign so far and I hope they make it to the Finals. You won't hear many Scots expressing the same sentiment about England though.

The rest of us English just remember a fabulous world cup (overlooking the final) and the heartbreak that accompanied our semi-final defeat on penalties to Germany. To this day I still can't hear Nessun Dorma without being on the brink of tears. Is it only Nessun Dorma that have acheived this sort of iconic status with regard to sport or are there other examples from other sports and cultures? What's your ultimate sports theme tune?

This is my favourite footie story of the weekend (from a Sunderland message board): My pre-match meeting was in a pub called "The Grange" in Newcastle Road (yes the road signs do suffer constant graffitti!), which is quite a decent venue with good food as well (not one for away colours though) Anyway, apparently, after the game Etuhu turned up at the traffic lights in his nice motor, got a decent cheer and a song, called someone over and gave them £60 to get the drinks in!

In fact, both phrases are correct and mean the same thing. "Couldn't" is correct, but you colonial buffoons for some reason choose to go your own way, in the process making yourselves look foolish in the face of the rest of the English-speaking world. I wouldn't mind, but some of the more impressionable of our halfwits are starting to use your terminology (as well as hanging round on street corners pretending to be "gangstas" and demanding "respect") . It's just not cricket.
