Why is bringing up a rule of the game considered "bad sportsmanship" but gathering on the third base base line to high-five a runner is fine even though it breaks said rule?

I wish there was a team in the DC area. You can bet that if Nancy Pelosi has anything to do with a team, its left side will be dominant.
I think there should be 2 DC area teams, the
Conservative, Christian, Right-Wing Republican, Straight, White, American Males*
and the
Tree Huggin, Peace Lovin, Pot Smokin, Porn Watchin, Lazy Ass Hippies, (like me).*

While truly a heart warming story, the fact the coach felt the need to ask the shooter if "he knew he was going miss?" before sending him to the line bothers me. Yes it was the right thing to do. Still it would have been nice if the kid had been aloud to go to the line and intentionally miss without the coach mentioning it at all.

There is an eye exam that enables opthimologists (sp) who have it to see in the back of the eye which will show brain damage. I do not understand how it works but there are those that are working to make it portable enough for military use, perhaps the NFL should look into it as well.
I'm not so sure in these economic times if high schools and colleges could buy such equipment but I think it would be well worth it. Having worked high school and college football games as an EMT, it can be tough to diagnose "Rung Bells" on the field. I'd have loved to have been trained to use such a tool when asked to decide if a player should be aloud to continue playing.

The second link has a nice bit of information about the game itself and is actually well written(unlike as Mr. B pointed out the poor skills of the writer of the rant).
The ThisIsLondon.co.uk link has apparently moved on to other topics, its ashame too because the quotes from Goodell were interesting.

...when you have someone basically insunating that a teams season is all but over with only 6 games played (I think the sky is falling on the cowpokes), IMHO, that's pretty ludicrous.
Where did I go wrong here? If you feel I have insulted your intellect in some way BornIcon I truly apologize for the misunderstanding. The chicken little comment was in reply to, "...If they loose, then the sky is falling." comment posted by Mickster.
Maybe it was my use of the term "cowpokes" if so, the Dallas Morning News newspaper is where I first came across the word on it's sports pages in the early '90's.
Apparently, Folkways feels some way about the 'Boys and entire organization since he admitted that not only is he not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys but also does not like Jerry Jones '....
Well no I don't have anything against the "entire organization", in fact I have the utmost respect for the team's past success as well as most of the guys that have and are playing for the Cowboy's. I wish them no i'll will, they just arn't my team is all. My dislike is of Jerry Jones has nothing to do with football or the team. It stems from past business dealings in Arkansas that have nothing to do with this conversation.

I don't know about being "overly dramatic" but if I come across that way I can live with it.
You're very first sentence made everything else that you said pretty much obsolete since it showed what side of the fence that you stand.
If this is fact then wouldn't it also apply to your comments since you are a cowboys fan? Seeing what side of the fence you stand an all. Not at all meant to be a snide comment, I just don't see how being a fan/not a fan affects (effects? I never can remember which is what) the facts.

I feel the same way about those who resort to racial slurs, a very pansy assed move. It still amazes me that people don't hear/see how absolutly foolish they soundlook while doing it. How he was able to play in Green Bay in the cold and snow as a southern boy is beyond me. I thought he would play a year or two there and then take the first job south of the MD line just to get warm. Shows how much I know. Thanks for the fun memories Brett and thank god you decided to hang up the cleats before you melted away and became a back-up for Aaron Rodgers.

The cause is poor parenting. Period. Not to delve too deeply into the "whole 'nother discussion", I have to somewhat disagree. While poor parenting is a problem I don't think it has much to do with inappropriate, degrading, threatening and at times criminal behavior at college basketball games. These are college kids we are talking about ferchrissake. The parents/guardians or who ever raised these kids must have done something right or they wouldn't be there. The greatest factor I can see is the mob mentality. I truly don't believe the large majority of college students behave this way in small groups or at other events. It has been the inability of Administrations and the NCAA to recognize the difference between harmless heckling and the kind of criminal activities described in the article that is the big picture here. Period.

...says Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. "I hate to say this because freedom of speech is at issue, but this isn't what freedom of speech is intended for." Freedom of speech ends at the use of Obscenities, Fighting words, Defamation (includes libel, slander), Perjury, Blackmail, Incitement to imminent lawless action, True threats, Solicitations to commit crimes. (1 of countless sources) All of which in the article are going on now at college basketball games. This shouldn't even be an issue. The NCAA should step in if schools cant ensure the safety of opposing players and fans. Anyone making threats of bodily harm should be identified and handled by the judicial system. I cant go around threatening to kill the president so why should I be allowed to threaten John Doe because he chose to play for the other guys? ...in the year 2008 many fans are waving anti-gay signs, which often appear on national TV broadcasts. Good to see homophobia is alive and well on college campuses.

Having not seen a video of the play this is simple speculation but from the picture it looks like the ball would have been past Taylor's foot prior to raising the studs. Did Taylor think he perhaps had a shot at the ball, maybe. Did he tackle for the sheer intent to injure? Only he can answer that one for sure I guess. Still, you hate too see a player take a shot directly on the shin like that.
